To wonder what it is about Baby Shark that calms my baby down?

I’m a new mum to a lovely 8 month old, she’s an awesome happy baby and I love her to bits, now to my question, whenever we put Baby shark on, whether it be on the phone, or on the tv, she instantly is transfixed! We can even use it to calm her down if she’s upset, so what is it about that song? I’ve tried other things such as CBeebies but nothing works apart from stuff from Pink Fong?

Anyone else find this?

No idea but it certainly works my DS was in hospital all last week whenever I played baby shark his heart rate dropped from 190 to 135 I was apologising to everyone who walked past our door I left it on repeat for an hour!

Faerie87 · 05/02/2019 15:34

Haha, I have the one hour repeat saved on my phone!

It’s perfect if we are trying to finish off eating and she’s getting bored! Last week we were in subway and we had to use it!

It annoys my fiancé, I just tell him, what would you rather do? Eat cold food or put up with baby shark for 10 minutes?

I'm sure the people at the table next to you would rather you had cold food than listen to that for 10 minutes.

I like the song but I don't think I'd like to listen to it on repeat.

While it's great that you've found something that calms your baby, if you want to play it in public you should get headphones for your DC. You can get decibel limited ones for small children easily and cheaply. It's not fair to inflict baby shark on repeat on other people where they have paid to eat/drink in a pleasant atmosphere.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 05/02/2019 15:44

It's the melody. There's an article somewhere about tests they did with it, it's soothing and fits the circadian rhythm if I remember rightly.

I wouldn't use it in public though, especially on repeat. At home play it away, but it's quite antisocial to play it where other people are. It works wonders on babies but drives some people up the wall!

I second the request for headphones if played repeatedly in public.

It may calm babies but it makes me feel murderous.

Was the emmerdale theme tune that did it for my DD. Typically couldn’t find it anywhere on repeat so had to replay it over and over

My eldest liked Motorhead- The Ace of Spades.
He's eight now and still enjoys something to mosh to.
My youngest is 4 and loves Baby Shark. I've had to make origami sharks for him to play with.

I've not tried Baby Shark but worked wonders for all of mine.

halfwitpicker · 05/02/2019 16:07

God knows. I've heard DS singing it but I just watched the vid on you tube. Soothing rhythm?

Faerie87 · 05/02/2019 16:08

On the couple of occasions we have played it was in “family places” or at home, not at fancy restaurant or similar, and when we have done it, the sound has been down low so as not to distrurb other people.

Although I honestly would not respond with any hostility towards someone who was playing it to calm their baby down. I also think headphones would upset my 8 month old more so would be defeating the object!

We have the sane. 7 1/2 month old! Saved us on a car journey yesterday.

PunishmentSnart · 05/02/2019 16:43

Same here for our 2 year old. We’ve had many a 3am baby shark sing song 😂

DorothyZbornak · 05/02/2019 16:47

This is really bizarre! Whenever I've heard it on Mrs Hinch's Instagram stories it's always made me calm down.
I'm in my thirties!
