To ask if out of hours would give an emergency prescription?

I'm on mirtazapine for PND. I picked up a prescription yesterday as I literally ran out the night before. Come to this evening, can't find the new box. Ask DH when he gets home and he said he put the empty boxes in the with the recycling, which has since been emptied, he didn't realise one had medication in it. The recyling bin is locked on top, only little holes to put the stuff through so we cant get in to fish around. I know it was an accident but I'm mad at him and don't know what I'm supposed to do now. I'm still struggling and don't know if I can face the weekend without them and also don't actually know if the GP would give another prescription on Monday given that this was a brand new one itself.

Has anyone ever had similar happen and been able to get a new prescription? Out of hours is ten minutes down the road but on a Saturday night is probably heaving and I don't want to go down to be told no. I'll muddle through the weekend if I have to but will I get another prescription on Monday? Please, any similar situations or advice is welcome!

I have no idea if they would give you them or not, but I really feel for you. PND is awful.

Maybe try phoning the out of hours see if they can give you advise on the phone about what to do?

That pharmacy where you cashed your last script can give you a few days worth to tide you over until the gp is open

pinktransit · 02/02/2019 20:07

Call 111 - they were really helpful when my partner realised that he didn't have enough oramorph one evening to last until the next day.
They sorted out an emergency prescription that we could collect from a 24 hour chemist.
Hope that they can help you too.

CloserIAm2Fine · 02/02/2019 20:07

As long as you don’t have a history of overdose then I would imagine you’ll get a new prescription on Monday without any issues, just explain honestly what happened

I’m on mirtazepine too (45mg) and don’t suffer any awful side effects if I miss a dose. Unlike venlafaxine which made me moody and headachy if I missed one dose (and I took it twice daily)

If it's like our recycling bin it's only held down by rivets through the plastic. In a situation like this I'd feel completely justified in getting a pair of snips or a hacksaw blade and cutting through the rivets.

Haggisfish · 02/02/2019 20:09

If you get it from same chemist, the pharmacist can give you private script for a few.

Bambamber · 02/02/2019 20:09

They may give you enough to last you through until you can see your GP. It's certainly worth asking them

AuchAyeTheNo · 02/02/2019 20:09

Yes. You would need to either speak or see a GP first though but generally they can sort emergency prescriptions for meds like this

Juliethigh · 02/02/2019 20:10

Pharmacy closed, not a 24hr one. I tried calling OOH but they're busy, as expected, and don't have a waiting system on the phone. Just tell you to hang up and try again. Didn't think of 111 though so I'll do that. Thank you!

Haven't missed any doses yet, think I'm just nervous in case I do suffer any side effects.

I second the call to 111.
It's precisely what they are there for ie. To help when you don't know what to do.
Good luck.
You will not have been the first person to do this.

I went on holiday once and forgot my prescription citalopram. The pharmacy in the (UK) destination gave me a 7 day emergency supply until I could see my GP

Fluffyears · 02/02/2019 20:11

Call111 out of hours will give out a prescription, I ran out of the pill (I was sure I had a strip left) and they issued a prescription to pick up.

originalusernamefail · 02/02/2019 20:12

I once left behind a prescription of painkillers at the pharmacy ( didn’t know that at the time - thought they were lost). OOH sorted me a rpt script at 7pm on a Sunday. I just rang 111 and explained.

Crunchymum · 02/02/2019 20:14

Is there absolutey no way to get the recycling box open?

poppyrock · 02/02/2019 20:14

I accidentally ran out of my antidepressant one weekend and was getting some BAD side effects. I made an appointment with Pushdoctor (online private GP service) and they did me a new prescription, found a pharmacy that was open near me (it was late at night) and then called to tell me where to go for it. I went and picked it up and paid something like £6 for the private prescription.

Worth a try OP, don’t go cold turkey as it can be really dangerous.

Walnutwhipster · 02/02/2019 20:14

When you call 111 there's a button to press for prescriptions. They usually give a couple of days supply, enough only until your GP opens. My GPs gave me a prescription the same day when I managed to spill a full bottle of oramorph over myself in the night last week. I had worried what they'd say but they were absolutely fine.

Juliethigh · 02/02/2019 21:03

Thank you so much for the advice, can't believe 111 didn't even cross my mind! They have sorted a weeks supply for me. Pharmacy a 20 min drive away that's open til 11 so DH is off to pick it up since its his fault in the first place Grin
