I like croissants with butter and jam, or almond, or nutella. Or cheese. Or plain. (Ps. It's 'croissants' and 'weird').

Schmoobarb · 01/02/2019 21:47

I like them just plain

Livedandlearned · 01/02/2019 21:47

Are they bread or a pastry?

scrappydappydoo · 01/02/2019 21:52

It depends what kind they are - almond croissant is a pastry so with nothing, cheap supermarket croissant with butter and jam, nice posh ‘proper’ croissant with just jam.
(Until now I never realised I had a croissant hierarchy)

Amanduh · 01/02/2019 21:53

I’ve never not eaten them with butter and jam! Warm too. Yum.

JasperKarat · 01/02/2019 21:53

That's how you eat the plain ones! I love them with lemon curd 😋

OhDearHowSadNeverMind · 01/02/2019 21:53

A croissant is not bread. Of course anyone can spread whatever they want on top of anything. Why on earth not?

wowfudge · 01/02/2019 21:56

A pastry - same food family as Danish pastries or what in French is called 'Viennoiserie'. I break them into pieces and put butter and jam on the pieces as I eat them. I wouldn't spread butter and jam on top of a whole one. Or I might split it and put ham and cheese in the middle then warm it in the oven.

SassitudeandSparkle · 01/02/2019 21:58

Mostly I eat them plain, sometimes with a spot of jam - this morning I did have the butter and jam combo and very nice it was too!

But a really nice croissant is still nice plain.

missbattenburg · 01/02/2019 22:01

I do what wowfudge does.

Warmed. Small pieces topped with butter and jam. Perfect.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 01/02/2019 22:02

Butter on croissants would be far too greasy for me but I happily spread jam on them.
Split them then put a bit cheese, mushrooms and some mixed herbs then in the oven for a few minutes.

Nolagerformethanks · 01/02/2019 22:02

Unless I'm being daft then everyone is missing the point, the butter and jam was spread on top rather than cutting it open and putting it inside. Yes, weird to me!

ILiveInSalemsLot · 01/02/2019 22:04

Oh that is weird. Who spreads anything on top of croissant? Confused

AnastasiaS · 01/02/2019 22:04

Yes seems a bit lazy to spread it on top! Cut it in half for sure. Butter and honey inside.

ChippyMinton · 01/02/2019 22:06

Pull apart and dab each piece with jam or butter or both as you go.

Or dunk in your Cafe au lait or chocolat chaud.

Thehop · 01/02/2019 22:06

Butter and jam here, torn into pieces .....or the french way, dipped in coffee or hot chocolate.

Love croissants!

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 01/02/2019 22:07

Cup of hot chocolate. Croissant. Dip torn off pieces in hot chocolate. Heavenly breakfast.

rosesandcashmere · 01/02/2019 22:08

Pull pieces off and butter and jam each piece as you eat surely? Always warm. UNLESS they are a warm French croissant in France then just jam

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 01/02/2019 22:10

Torn or sliced into chunks with butter and/or jam depending on butteryness or croissant.

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 01/02/2019 22:12

It's weird to not eat them with bugger and jam, surely?

OhDearHowSadNeverMind · 01/02/2019 22:14

Bugger and jam??? Shock

Grin
user1466690252 · 01/02/2019 22:16

Cheese and marmite Blush I know

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/02/2019 22:20

Bread. They use yeast as a raising agent, not baking soda.

greenelephantscarf · 01/02/2019 22:20

I don't eat them
they are like bricks in my stomach. theycontain about a kilo of butter each.

but if I have to, just plain will do.

Wellcolourmehappy · 01/02/2019 22:21

Yep - almond croissant eaten as it is or dipped into hot chocolate or a latte. Plain croissant sliced across the middle and filled with butter, jam or a curd.
But I do know someone who puts butter/cream cheese on top of a bagel rather than slice it!
