I do the same as your friend. Heated croissant, with butter and jam on top.

Learned how to do it in Belgium so it must be the correct way Wink

MashedSpud · 01/02/2019 22:22

I used warm them and then slice them open and stuff them with noodles.

It's a pastry, but you can never have enough butter, and jam is just the cherry on the top of a beautifully fresh and warm croissant

AuntieOxident · 01/02/2019 22:26

When spanking fresh from local Co-op (the bakery section, NOT pre-packed) they are lovely eaten as soon as they are carried back from the shop, plus unsalted butter, with or without jam, and good coffee to drink. Favourite weekend breakfast.
But the next day (because you don’t just buy one) they’re ace when split, filled with sliced ham and cheese and warmed till cheese is gooey.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 01/02/2019 22:27

Noodles? Sounds revolting Grin

JaiNotJay · 01/02/2019 22:28

I really want croissants now, and I only have bagels. Sad If I did have croissants, I would pull off pieces and spread on jam before eating.

nocoolnamesleft · 01/02/2019 22:29

Cut and spread? Philistine. You have to tear and spread. Or dip.

MashedSpud · 01/02/2019 22:30

Yeah it does but it was actually quite nice and I thought I was so inventive eating it when I was 17. Grin

RitaMills · 01/02/2019 22:31

greenelephantscarf when do you ‘have to’? I genuinely can’t think of a situation when I have to eat a croissant?

I cut in half with jam but sometimes they can be a bitch to cut when hot so I have been known to half spread the cut bits but blob jam ontop of the end bits that just don’t behave.

gottastopeatingchocolate · 01/02/2019 22:32

Ooh, topical for me - this morning DD had a croissant for breakfast. She asked if she could have it with chocolate spread, and I said no as she was already having a hot chocolate (that's not the controversial bit!)...

She then said, "OK, then - I'll have it with peanut butter"

I despair!!

EyeDrops · 01/02/2019 22:32

Warm, tear chunks off and lather with salted butter. Bliss.

YoThePussy · 01/02/2019 22:35

Dribbling at the thought of a croissant with butter and jam. Will brave the snow tomorrow and get some. Have a jar of rose petal jam that needs eating up.

BulletWithABun · 01/02/2019 22:36

I like them torn with a dollop of marmalade on each chunk.

Celticrose · 01/02/2019 22:39

Sliced open and then warmed in oven. Butter and strawberry jam. DH also likes them with bacon cheese and sun blush tomatoes. In Canada I have had them filled with cheese and broccoli or ham and cheese

A croissant is almost half butter (or should be). They really are perfect as they are and need no accompaniment other than a hot drink!

Tunnocks34 · 01/02/2019 22:48

On top of? Savage.

Jam and butter yes but half it first for God sake!

(Lighthearted)

stellar42 · 01/02/2019 22:55

Either dipped in thick hot chocolat. Or warmed then sliced with thick jambon. Maybe a slither if cheese. But usually dipped if plain

AuntieOxident · 01/02/2019 22:56

But Mere Danish pastries are made with a yeasted dough, albeit enriched with butter. I don’t think many people would class those as a bread. It’s not the use of yeast which determines if it’s a bread or a pastry. Several breads aren’t raised with yeast, eg soda bread or chappattis.
Anyway IMO croissants are a rich, yeasted pastry, while brioches are an enriched sweetened bread...and they’re all bloody lovely.
A rose by any other name etc etc.

Butterfly84 · 01/02/2019 22:58

Always with butter and jam.

Oysterbabe · 01/02/2019 22:59

Sliced in half and spread with Nutella.
