try to not take it for more than 3 days shouldnt cause constipation in day 1-2/3. If it does cause bad constipation, otc laxitive perhaps? dont know if you can do that with uc of course. It dosent cause constipation in evreyone to ofcourse. Just going on my and my familys experiences of chronic ilness

DP has UC and has been given codeine/other opiate based painkillers in the past with no issues (even after his transplant when he was on fentanyl for a month or so).
If you've got any concerns pop in to your pharmacy and they should be able to help you. Pharmacists are great for things like this.

Have been here OP. NOT for UC but cannot be constipated due to a different bowel issue. Can you call the GP or pharmacy and ask for advice? If you are feeling a bit bunged up after a short time perhaps ask for a very low dose (childs dosage technically) liquid laxative to keep things moving if it becomes an issue. This is the resolution my GP came to when i used to take codeine on a longer term basis.

I'm sure you are, but be aware codeine can cause addiction after just 3 days. But if you need it you need it, chronic pain is awful isn't it Flowers I hope you feel better soon.

Are u under a gastro consultant or have been? They will sometimes put a plan in place in the event of flare ups and will inform your GP

I’m awaiting another colonoscopy as after 5 years no flare up they sign you off as in complete remission

I’m on strong codeine and have been fine. It’s the morphine that makes me
Constipated.

Fellow UC sufferer here, I take codeine for flare ups as it's calms the diarrhoea as well as pain. I don't like it though as I get nausea and light headed from codeine. I prefer tramadol for pain, for me it has less side effects.
