To go to the cinema alone

Is that sad? I have a day off this week and havent had a day (minus work) without my DS since he was born 16 months ago. I am debating going to see a movie and have a nice lunch somewhere but I will be alone. No idea whats even on mind!

I dont have many friends at all (almost zero in fact) and anyone I do know will be working.

Is that sad?

Do it!

I'm female. None of the people I usually go to football with are going today, so I'm going to the match on my own.

Shoppingwithmother · 02/02/2019 09:07

I love going to the cinema on my own and have done it for years - I remember seeing South Park - The Movie in a massive multiplex screen entirely on my own once.

I hadn’t been for quite a while, but I went the other week to see The Favourite. Was really looking forward to it but I didn’t like it that much. Unfortunately I fell asleep halfway through and woke up when the credits started!!

straightjeans · 02/02/2019 09:26

My local cinema is £5 a ticket. I'm in there all the time. Alone.

Solly76 · 02/02/2019 09:58

Do it. I go to the cinema alone when I get the chance and if there's a film on that I want to see. I often find it difficult to be free at the same time as friends as my son's dad works a different shift pattern every week. I love my solo trips to the cinema

Solly76 · 02/02/2019 09:59

I saw Mary Queen of Scots a few days ago, on my own. I really enjoyed it.

JustAboutGettingBy · 02/02/2019 10:50

Brilliant. I'm swinging more to bohemiam rhapsody now....its tough. Who knows when I will go again...

I don't think Bohemian Rhapsody is still on in many places or Star Is Born, major cities perhaps

Wondering333 · 02/02/2019 18:33

I love it - I’m going on my own tomorrow to see Can You Ever Forgive Me, the trailer for it looked great when I saw The Favouritelast week.

CandleWithHair · 02/02/2019 18:39

Do it, you won’t regret it

The only ‘sad’ thing is people who think being able to enjoy your own company is ‘sad’.

SoleBizzz · 02/02/2019 18:41

YABU it's disgusting

JustAboutGettingBy · 02/02/2019 19:05

Bohemiam rhapsody is on at my local cinema in the morning so I will go for that. I can drop my son at the childminders get the train into town for a coffee (and cake) before hand, lunch after with wine (hence the train) a bit of shopping and home by the usual time Grin

I love going on my own. Family bag of minstrels that you don't have to share, and you're living the dream!

CandleWithHair · 03/02/2019 09:36

Enjoy OP! Such a good movie

TheNoodlesIncident · 03/02/2019 12:58

I've seen that twice, you'll enjoy it. The first time I went to the cinema on my own I felt like a social failure (which I am tbf) but I soon realised that it has its advantages. It's actually much nicer, especially if it's a film that you know others wouldn't be keen on.

And the nicest thing was the cinema cat (a ginger tabby) chose MY lap to curl up on, so I watched the movie stroking this lovely, furry, purring hot water bottle. Was divine! In fact I remember that better than which film it was... it was a once popular independent cinema, now long gone after the multiplex cinemas took the trade away. Shame!

GruciusMalfoy · 03/02/2019 13:40

Enjoy, it's a good film!

I often go on my own, I have a members card and there are films I watch that I know no one else (who I would usually go with) would be keen on. So I don't think twice about heading off on my own.

CookPassBabtridge · 03/02/2019 13:44

I love it. Blissful peace! The only time I felt a little odd was on a friday night when it was full of couples and groups and I was late so not much choice of seats.

RobinHobb · 03/02/2019 18:24

Oh god I’m so jealous
I love going alone
I haven’t left the house without baby and toddler attached to me for three years and four months (dd1 age!). Except for labour with Dd2 lol
It’s absolutley fantastic
Enjoy

flumpybear · 03/02/2019 18:37

Hell yes, do it! I had a weeek in the Canary Islands alone 😱🥳🥳🥳

1shotcappuccino · 03/02/2019 19:02

I go to the cinema on my own a lot and it's great. It is very quiet during the day, so I don't have to put up with anyone eating smelly hotdogs etc. I have a way of booking a seat which ensures no one can sit next to me 😊

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 03/02/2019 19:03

I go to the cinema very regularly and have to say I've noticed an increase in people going alone go for it and enjoy your film

WhiteDust · 03/02/2019 20:16

I LOVE going on my own!
I take sandwiches

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 03/02/2019 20:21

Wish I had time to do this!
