To go to the cinema alone

Is that sad? I have a day off this week and havent had a day (minus work) without my DS since he was born 16 months ago. I am debating going to see a movie and have a nice lunch somewhere but I will be alone. No idea whats even on mind!

I dont have many friends at all (almost zero in fact) and anyone I do know will be working.

Is that sad?

Do it, I love it.

Suzysuzuki · 01/02/2019 19:52

It's on my list to do when DD starts to go to daycare. I only have to be in the office one day and she has to go for a minimum of 2. Cinema and lovely long lunch with a book. Bliss!
Enjoy yourself!

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 01/02/2019 19:52

Lots of people do this. We have The Light membership so go loads. I sometimes go by myself, and have noticed lots of others do too.

What are you going to see?

JustAboutGettingBy · 01/02/2019 20:06

Maybe The Favourite?

You are definitely not being unreasonable. I'm contemplating the very same thing to go and see Mary Queen of Scots on Sunday morning. Might even get a coffee instead of a soft drink and feel really grown up Smile

BartonHollow · 01/02/2019 20:08

I did love The Favourite, as long as bad/coarse language doesn't massively offend you - you're good

Kemer2018 · 01/02/2019 20:09

I saw bohemian rhapsody on my own. It was great!

Pinkprincess1978 · 01/02/2019 20:15

I went to see mama Mia by myself last year and really enjoyed it. My DH has been a few times when he wants to see some weird film no one else wants to see.

QuestionableMouse · 01/02/2019 20:16

I go all over on my own. Booked a few days away alone last year... It was bliss. (And I'm doing the same this year too!)

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 01/02/2019 20:29

I did it for the first time last year, we had painters working at the house all over the stairwell and downstairs, so it seemed a good opportunity to go and see the film "Phantom Thread" which I fancied but I knew my husband wasn't keen to see. I took myself off to a midday showing. It felt a bit odd, but there were other women there on their own too

waitingforthenextbus · 01/02/2019 20:30

I bloody LOVE going in the day on my own, it’s one of my favourite things to do ever!

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 01/02/2019 20:39

Do it often. Love it.

anniehm · 01/02/2019 20:43

Why not? Plenty of people do. Only problem here is I always bump into people I know at the cinema restaurant who insist I join them. (So fortunate to have a lovely independent cinema!)

flirtygirl · 01/02/2019 20:45

This is my best treat. Just me and the big screen. - - And loads of snacks.--

flirtygirl · 01/02/2019 20:45

Wow my strike through failed.

Quarepants · 01/02/2019 20:46

My greatest treat is a solo cinema treat. I only began last year and now I resent if anyone says: oh I'll come with you!
It took a trip or two to get used to being a solo cinema goer but now I realise there are lots of women on their own at the afternoon showings. And very little chomping Angry thank goodness.

viques · 01/02/2019 20:52

Some brilliant films out In the next few weeks, looking forward to Beale Street, Green Book, A private war , and a spot the luvvie one about Shakespeare.

Recently seen Stan and Ollie, gentle storytelling.
MAry Queen of Scots, play spot David Tennant , Simon Russel Beale and Adrian Lester! Ignore the inconsistencies, also read the credits -so many women involved in the production! VEry positive.
The Favourite, I loved it but others haven't.
Vice, I loved it , a tricky story told in an interesting way, worrying to think it reflects politicians real interests.

There are some great films out, with some strong women parts even in the male dominated films, Amy Adams is terrifying in Vice as Dick Cheneys wife.

BagofTeeth · 01/02/2019 20:55

I love going to places alone. Cinema, theatre, concerts, museums, restaurants, pubs, etc. It's so nice to just sit quietly and chill. Between DH, both DC and the DDogs I don't get that same sort of peace at home.

JustAboutGettingBy · 01/02/2019 22:02

Hmmm thanks all!

I go to the cinema on my own, only since having kids though and I prefer to go with my husband but we never have a babysitter so that simply doesn’t happen.

I get a big coffee, big popcorn all to myself, take my pashmina warm scarf type thing, snuggle down and switch off.

I would have died from embarrassment if I went to the cinema alone before I had kids, it seemed sad and loner-ey, but now I see it as an opportunity to take a snatch of time for myself. And watch something with the volume up high with no fear of waking the kids Grin

Go and enjoy yourself OP.

I once had the whole cinema to myself. Until another lone woman came in at the last minute. Lovely, no problem at all. Except she sat 2 seats away from me. In an empty cinema. WTF? Don’t be that woman!

KC225 · 01/02/2019 22:12

Bloody love going to the cinema alone. It's not sad it is culturally liberating even if it's a rom com or an action movie.

LucyAutumn · 01/02/2019 22:37

Not sad, I LOVE going to the cinema alone! Grin

madcatladyforever · 01/02/2019 22:42

I love goin g to the cinema and lunch alone, I do it regularly but take a paper or a book as well.

Tensixtysix · 01/02/2019 22:44

Best thing ever! Don't get why women can't do things by themselves.

GlitterPixie · 01/02/2019 22:49

I always go to the cinema alone can’t understand why it would be unreasonable?! Confused
