Detention if school closed

Posting for traffic. Do after school detentions run if the school is closed? Haven't been notified that it is cancelled, and no answer when I phone so I'm assuming no one is there. Just very anxious it might be escalated if DS doesn't attend and it is actually on.

Of course there will be no detention if the school is closed.

Doyoumind · 01/02/2019 13:50

Confused No detention.

LosingNemo · 01/02/2019 13:51

Nope. It will be rescheduled.

reallybadidea · 01/02/2019 13:51

I would leave a voicemail or email the teacher concerned asking to rearrange as the school is closed. There's no way that it should be escalated, but cover yourself by making contact.

Rubusfruticosus · 01/02/2019 14:03

Thanks. I did think it would be rescheduled, just being so anxious about it means I start questioning my judgement and thinking that some staff could be there and it could still be on. I will have to send an email and hope for the best.

Of course not

Rubusfruticosus · 01/02/2019 14:36

Sent an email now explaining that he will not be attending due to the closure and that I have tried to contact the school. I hope I am just worrying about nothing.

Definitely, unequivocally not.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 01/02/2019 14:40

I'm a teacher... You definitely didn't need to ring or email the school. The last thing on anyone's mind is detention! I'm sure they'll reschedule it for next week.

Satsumaeater · 01/02/2019 15:17

"Closed" to kids doesn't mean closed altogether and it is likely that at least some staff will be in school. You did the right thing OP.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 01/02/2019 21:48

I disagree Satsumaeater, closed means closed to students and teachers for safety so detention for students won't be on.

Even if the principal decided to go in, that wouldn't change the normal running of the school.
