I love, and followed the News Quiz for years and wondered at his absence of late.

Beyond sad. Such intelligence, humour. One of us. I'm weeping as I write this;

He was just great.

viques · 01/02/2019 13:55

Sad news indeed. I used to love his rants on the news quiz, sharp flights of imagination, but making a point and always laugh out loud funny.

I once almost met him, well not really, he was going up the stairs in Habitat and I was going down.

RIP Jeremy.

BoogleMcGroogle · 01/02/2019 14:00

Hermione is so, so bright. That's why she sets the other children on fire. So bright.

I loved Jeremy Hardy. If there is a heaven, I like to think that he and Linda Smith are making it hilarious today.

MoreCheeseDear · 01/02/2019 14:08

Loved him so much. Especially singing.

SaturdayNext · 01/02/2019 15:02

Totally coincidentally, I was listening in the car yesterday to an old "News Quiz" CD. Despite having heard it before, I was laughing out loud to his answer to a question about crime, which was along the lines of "I'm not worried about rising crime where I live, the criminals there are doing their best. Everything has been stolen at least once already."

SweetLathyrus · 01/02/2019 15:43

I've already said this on another JH thread, but about a year ago at a gig, he was really lovely to DS who at 15 was the youngest person in the theatre by about 25 years.

Absolutely, him and Linda Smith - I cried when he discussed her on the News Quiz 40th (?) review last year.

recrudescence · 01/02/2019 15:51

Obviously very sad for someone to die so young but I didn’t think he was funny at all: always the same (easy) targets; always the the same old shtick.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 01/02/2019 15:53

It really punched me in the guts when I read that on the news this morning; I never knew he was ill.

Does anyone remember Jack and Jeremy’s Police 4? It’s weird as it’s come right back to mind for me today but I can’t remember if it was a sketch or a programme on telly in its own right x

MoonriseKingdom · 01/02/2019 15:55

Oh no! What a funny and likeable person. He was one of the people on my dream News Quiz line up. Flowers for his friends and family.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 01/02/2019 15:58

I'd been wondering why he'd not been on the News Quiz too. He was a real favourite of mine. Poor guy - so young

longwayoff · 01/02/2019 16:05

Very sad news. Still miss Linda Smith. RIP to both.

hanahsaunt · 01/02/2019 16:11

This must be one of the hardest Last Word episodes to listen to - and even harder for Mark Steele who is speaking. So very sad.

LakieLady · 01/02/2019 16:15

I loved Jeremy Hardy. If there is a heaven, I like to think that he and Linda Smith are making it hilarious today.

I thought just the same. Both of them great friends and both gone far too soon.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/02/2019 16:44

Oh, that really is sad news.

FourEyesGood · 01/02/2019 16:56

Very sad news. I always enjoyed his “singing” on ISIHAC.

HamiltonCork · 01/02/2019 17:00

So sad to hear the bad news. An extremely talented man who has been robbed of his old age.

cornflakegirl · 01/02/2019 17:00

He was brilliant. Far too young.

SaturdayNext · 01/02/2019 17:17

@recrudescence, what a totally unnecessary and indeed seriously untrue post.

recrudescence · 01/02/2019 17:36

@SaturdayNext
I am very sorry for your loss. However, we don’t all like the same people or find the same things funny. The OP invites views about Jeremy Hardy and I gave mine. If only approving responses were allowed, the OP should have said so.

VeryLittleOwl · 01/02/2019 17:56

Very sad. I first saw him live around 1990 when I was a teenager and was lucky enough to catch him again 18 months ago at a very small venue in Scotland. ISIHAC's musical rounds will never be the same.

MyOtherProfile · 01/02/2019 18:03

In the words of Thumper, if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all, especially on a bereavement post.

longwayoff · 01/02/2019 18:04

Recrudescence. Your opinion of Jeremy's performance is neither invited nor required and your remarks are offensive and unnecessary.

MyOtherProfile · 01/02/2019 18:04

And actually I don't think the OP was inviting views.

MrsGrindah · 01/02/2019 18:12

And “splendid” is such a Jeremy Hardy word! So upset at today’s news.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 01/02/2019 18:13

Also, you're wrong, @recrudescence. So wrong. So very, very, very, very wrong. Wronger than the wrongest thing to ever wrong.

Love Jeremy. Will miss him so much.
