Royal mail can do one

I sold an item £9 on ebay. Sent 2nd class. This was posted on 21/01/2019 today a claim came in it wasn't delivered. I refunded buyer as I thought I would claim from royal mail. Has anyone tried to claim for an item not delivered. They want you to jump through hoops with all the information you need to supply.
The item was a couple of years old so I don't have the original receipt.
Is it me doing the claim wrong, they said they could only refund postage. I've sent in a complaint to there customer service department.

It's frustrating but I can see why they require proof - otherwise anyone could claim all kinds of expensive items went missing - for example the buyer might have received it and just lied. It's annoying because £9 doesn't justify the cost of tracked delivery.

I am not absolutely sure about this but I think that it isn’t possible to sue Royal Mail. You can try to claim compensation through their compensation scheme, but if you don’t get anywhere with that I don’t think you can go beyond it.

Sorry OP - it’s a rubbish situation for you Sad

Was It sent tracked?

I havnt ebayed anything for a long time but the last time something went missing, I just had to fill in a form and include the sales confirmation and refund confirmation from eBay and PayPal.

Hate RM. They broke my letter box by ramming an item through it. I went to the door and got the posties details. Tried to claim for a new letterbox. Only 25 ffs but it's the principle. 18 months later I gave up.

Meant to say 25 quid

Tracking of small packages is now free with royal mail. The tracking number is printed on the proof of postage receipt.

Also I've found royal mail to be helpful with losy ebay items. They have a specific form for items sold on ebay. If you print out the auction they will refund the item cost and postage cost. Only the seller can claim, not the buyer.
