Light hearted...

My boss wants me to bind a bunch of documents together using a binding machine and I've never used one before, watched a bunch of youtube videos and I just have a mental block...
Don't know how to do it, don't want to screw it up in front of everyone in office, dont want to do it...

So just hiding behind my computer pretending look super super busy and keep telling him I'll do it shortly.
Not sure how long I can put it off for....

Make me feel better with some stories of when you've avoided doing a simple task?!
pls and thanks

Can't think of any examples of my own at the moment.

I would say though that putting it off will just look bad in the long run.
Just be honest and tell the boss you've never done it before and you're not sure how to use the machine. Ask if there's someone else in the office who is experienced who could show you how it's done so you can do it confidently next time.

YouTube it on your phone

I agree honesty is best here. Unless your job is to bind documents full time I wouldn't worry about looking like you don't know your job. Just allow them to show you and do it right next time

Just turn around and ask ‘Does anyone know how to work the binding machine?’

Surely someone does?

For what it’s worth the first couple of times I tried, I just put a plain sheet of paper in first, to make sure I was putting it in the right place. So practice a few times. Then when you put your comb on, try again with plain sheets, until it goes on in the right place on the comb. Take the sheets off then put in your papers for binding.

Thanks all for the advice, its a super small office - just me and three guys and I just didn't think any of them would know how to work it. I couldn't find a youtube video for one that looked like ours so that was frustrating ha.

Big boss gave me a bit of a demo in the end but he didnt really know what he was doing, hence asking me to do it for him and by the end of several booklets, I pretty much got the hang of it! All a bit fiddly.
I knew I'd have to do it eventually, I was just putting it off.
