Strange car - why???

First up am going to say this mystery is unlikely to be solved. But... I live on a private road and every day for the last week a car has parked up on the road (people in it but can’t make them out) twice a day for about five minutes and the driven off.

Background info - they don’t get out of the car, they don’t as far as I know live in any of the other houses- and even if they did why park up randomly twice a day and not get out, and yes - I do have too much time on my hands 😊

An insurance company spy? I vaguely know someone who does this and imagine it's something like James Bond but in reality it's probably sitting in the car.

BlankTimes · 30/01/2019 18:51

Take their registration, type of car and occupants' details, note the times they are there, ring the Police non-emergency number and they can let you know you if it's someone on legitimate business, although they will not give you any details about who it is or what they are doing.

ddodprob · 30/01/2019 18:54

Actually boring though it is - am thinking the driving lesson one might be it! Lots of driving lessons take place here as the road is quiet and leads to another very wide one - great for three point turns! Maybe they park there before moving onto the wide one

Also - we have the police on horses go by a few times a day as well so perhaps not the best drug dealing spot

Cleaners between jobs or people who have to find somewhere to park up between two visits. It's unlikely to be the Police if it's a cul de sac - that's a tad obvious, same for burglars really unless the registration is changing on the car - even they are relatively aware of being spotted with such routine behaviour.

Report it to 101 if you are concerned but you are unlikely to find out the exact outcome unless they needed a statement from you.

ddodprob · 30/01/2019 18:55

Am still shocked at the bailiffs with flowers thing!

Read a similar post a year or two ago. The op took it upon herself to investigate and came across a man having a can of beer and a wank!!

Carers or community nurses at a guess.

The timing works for when I was a district nurse, finished the early calls for 10 and then started the evening calls at 4.

BertrandRussell · 30/01/2019 19:07

Please don’t ring 101- they’ve got enough to do!

GalacticChickenShit · 30/01/2019 19:08

A driving lesson? Weren't the L plates a hint?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 30/01/2019 19:16

Proper sniggered at, "Not a euphemism".

OP, just go and ask them, especially if it's a private road.

ddodprob · 30/01/2019 19:16

Don’t worry i have no intention of calling 101 - it doesn’t seem too sinister - just baffling

Driving instructors cars near me all have huge signs on the top and stickers all over, no one has a driving lesson in an unmarked car ime

Jamiefraserskilt · 30/01/2019 19:26

Go for a walk and ask them if you can help them.
They could be watching movement to see when folk are in and out prior to a burglary attempt.

PenguinPandas · 30/01/2019 19:38

Could stand in front of their car and take their number plate down. If they ask what you are doing just say its your turn being neighbourhood watch and what are they doing.

We used to get bogus electricity / gas meter readers at old flat and I had one come round, I let him upstairs as meter was outside and showed him the meter. He didn't note reading so I asked him why he wasn't noting it, said it was in his head. I said what is it then? And he was Shock Then I pointed out to him I knew he was bogus and that if he was planning to burgle there was always someone in at our flats. He left pretty fast.

Nicknacky · 30/01/2019 19:41

I was waiting for someone to say phone the police

LordVoldetort · 30/01/2019 19:45

Driving instructor would be obvious with the signs so I doubt it’s that!

SherlockSays · 30/01/2019 19:53

Definitely Pokemon Go.. is the postbox near some sort of landmark? A plaque or anything?

I want it to be some couple spicing up their sex life with one off the wrist, twice a day. Are the windows steamed up? Any rocking motion of car?

What I do not want it to be: Pokemon fucking Go!

mindutopia · 30/01/2019 20:36

My neighbour (who doesn’t have a whole lot else going on frankly) drives to the local shop at least twice a day to buy alcohol and the Sun Hmm and then sits in various lay-bys along the way to read the paper (probably drink) and hide from his wife. He must look pretty dodgy to someone who doesn’t know him (tbf he is kinda dodgy!).

PocketFluff · 31/01/2019 07:25

We had this! Every week day at about quarter to eight a single man would park up opposite our house (weirdly next to a post box as well) but just sit in the car with the engine running. He didn't get out or appear to be doing anything, just sat there for about ten minutes.

We figured that maybe he was going to work but just really wanted to leave his house earlier?!

Sallygoroundthemoon · 31/01/2019 07:30

I do this between clients. It's the only time I get to myself to read MN for a bit!

anniehm · 31/01/2019 07:31

Eating, drinking coffee, waiting for an appointment, all quite possible. More unlikely but legitimate are private investigators eg cheating wife, dwp fraud squad - with very expensive houses and pi is more likely of the two
