AIBU to be suspicious

Decorator demanded payment as benefits tax credits had stopped, ( messages from wife via watsapp) normally I pay at end of job, I supplied materials, so made payment after this demanded, understanding benefiys issue, he apologised about it though.

Now cause I said he would get paid text earliest Friday as that when I will be paid and was absolutely fine, he reliterated that I have up to 7 days after final day.

He had 3 days off last week mon - weds, for sickness bug!

Now says today knowing he won’t get any cash, that sickness bug is back can’t work till Friday?

I feel it because I can’t pay till Friday he left me in lurch till then barb needs supporting and siliconed, so I have no bath/ shower- was meant to finish job today?

Invoices say payment must be made up to 7 days later.

Don't pay him anything until he has finished the job. Tell him this so he understands that going off sick won't mean he gets the money.

Don't pay him till the job is finished or he won't finish it you've got a cowboy on your hands

His a friend of a friend, so bit wary of upsetting him and not coming back?

Bath needs supporting properly so he left job half done again it frustrating tbh.

For small jobs you can do materials up front but only pay the rest when the job is done. He can borrow other money from friends if he needs it, you aren't an ATM.

7 working day job is now taken - 15 days in total, only paying for 7 as its £50 per day, so far done 6 days in 12 days. Though did have a leak so 2 days he couldn’t work.

Please don't worry about someone who is trying to get cash out of you without doing the work. This is called scamming! You can always get someone else in to finish the job if he doesn't come back.

VioletCharlotte · 30/01/2019 11:00

Well he might genuinely have a sickness bug, in which case you wouldn't want him in your house working!

The more cynical side of me thinks he's probably doing another job for someone who agreed to pay upfront!

My mate said it is suspicious cause his wife sending messages, maybe she saying that because I won’t pay day after day that he come Friday as that when I will pay the final day. But I do wonder if he managed to still do the school run.

Which would of been 2 days after finishing full job.

Other annoyance is he only works 9 to 4 instead of 5!!!
