She's just on GMB and doesn't really have any answer for anything apart from 'I don't know'.

Surely she knew it was odd to have that amount of tramadol given to her from someone other than her doctor?

OP posts:
GalacticChickenShit · 30/01/2019 10:53

How did the friend she "stole" the pills from have 300? I'm sure you wouldn't get that many in a single prescription.

I get 224 x 50mg a month on prescription (four weeks). I actually also get 30 slow release 100mg a month too.

IcedPurple · 30/01/2019 10:58

Do GMB pay convicted criminals for giving interviews?

Only if they're convicted in funny furren lands, in which case they're automatically innocent and automatically victims, especially if they are good-looking young women.

That's because you need them surely?

I don't think you could blag that prescription out of a doctor. Unless I am being totally naïve?

Didn't her 'friend' need them herself?

Of course Grin

"Ffs so many judgy pants on here. He has back pain and can't get the meds to help him,"

Don't be so bloody stupid, these are opiates and Egypt has a big problem with them & controls them (previously they were readily available and it was causing big problems, so they clamped down). He doesn't have a back problem, he's either selling them or he's an opiate addict himself)

RollaCola84 · 30/01/2019 12:26

Tramadol is legal in the UK, ON PRESCRIPTION !! The prescription can't have been for him because he's not a UK resident so someone has lied to get the pills in the UK, regardless of whether she knew it's status in Egypt. It's not like you can just go into Tesco and pick packets of it off the shelf like Rennies or Piriton.

Oliversmumsarmy · 30/01/2019 12:34

I thought she was being cagey over the friend who she got them from then in the next breath mentioned her name.

Couldn’t quite work that one out

IcedPurple · 30/01/2019 12:44

Either she knew very well that she was smuggling illegal drugs, or she saw absolutely nothing strange or suspicious about being asked to bring in hundreds of undeclared tablets in her suitcase - in which case she's thick.

But whichever is the truth, ultimately it makes no difference. Ignorance of the law - or just plain stupidity - is no defence. She's lucky to have been released early imo. If this had been a local woman, she'd still be in gaol.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/01/2019 12:49

Some countries even carry the Death Penalty for smuggling. I.don't know if Egypt is one of them

Miane · 30/01/2019 12:53

Since when did everyone here start respecting the random laws of other countries?

Erm, what now Frax?

If you travel to another country you have to respect their laws (or risk prosecution)

Just as visitors to the U.K. have to respect ours.

Following the law of the land isn’t some kind of optional thing that MNers have suddenly started doing as it’s trendy...

areyoubeingserviced · 30/01/2019 12:54

As another poster said she’s either very stupid or a liar.
Whatever the case may be, she’s lucky that she has been released. She is a drug smuggler.
Tramadol is such a horrible drug. I was prescribed tramadol for severe back pain too. It made me nauseous and light headed and I found it difficult to breathe. I ended up flushing them down the toilet

IcedPurple · 30/01/2019 13:03

Since when did everyone here start respecting the random laws of other countries?

Wouldn't she also have been in trouble if she'd been found bringing in hundreds of Tramadol to the UK with no prescription?

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 30/01/2019 13:18

Tramadol is a controlled drug.

This means there are no repeat prescriptions, the GP has to write each prescription individually and there is a major palaver at the chemist when the prescription is handed in and the drugs collected.

She had more than a month's worth of the drug, she didn't have a prescription for it, had no earthly reason for carrying it, had no licence to export and import it and had packed it into another drug's boxes in her case.

She committed drugs offences before she left the UK.

She obtained the drugs illegally (the 'friend' could also be prosecuted for the supply of Class C controlled drugs) and possessed the drug with the intention of supplying it to another.

She either lives in a little criminal bubble where drugs really are handed out like sweeties or has gone through a lot of bother to obtain them, knowing she's doing something very wrong.

I can't believe this woman is this unbelievably stupid.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/01/2019 13:35

I don't believe a word of her GMB interview. Her friend gave her the pills without her asking for them? Yeah right!

She strikes me as being not very well spoken or maybe educated which people are confusing for stupidity. I don't think she's stupid.

I read that she'd put the tablets in a different container but I'm not sure if that's true.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/01/2019 14:23

She also said she didn't look in the bag that her friend gave her but then claimed to have taken one for her bad legs.

Tiscold · 30/01/2019 14:51

We're respecting the law of the country because when you travel somewhere you follow their laws, not the uks. The foreign office is very clear, they can't get you out of jail if you break the law.

Otherwise can people from say afghanistan murder people here for blasphemy as it's a crime in taliban controlled afghanistan, and why should they follow random laws from us?

endofthelinefinally · 30/01/2019 14:57

I had to take my prescribed meds into a ME country recently.
I looked up the regulations online, packed everything in my hand luggage in the original packaging, took my medical file with all my prescriptions, the dispensing receipts and my consultant's letters.
I was still nervous that I might have forgotten something, but everything went smoothly.
No way would I have chucked them in my suitcase and not carried all the documents.
She comes across as being really thick, but I think that is probably an act. I don't think anyone genuinely that stupid would have been able to organise and obtain that quantity of controlled drugs.
The way she was being fawned over was disgusting.

sulflower · 30/01/2019 16:49

I frequently travel with medication and follow the rules of the country I'm visiting, anyone with an ounce of sense does. For anyone visiting Dubai in the future, you now have to fill out an online form if you are taking any medication with you.

MissEliza · 30/01/2019 18:22

Omg I couldn't believe her this morning. I thought her time in jail might have been a sobering experience for her, like the girls arrested in Peru. Instead she was arrogant and defiant. I basically assumed he'd conned her into doing it but now I think she knew exactly what she was doing. Hurghada airport is quite quiet. She probably thought she'd sail through. In fact, I wonder if she'd done it before. She visited quite frequently.
I have to say, I lived in Egypt for more than ten years and dh is Egyptian but I never knew Tramadol was illegal! This case really opened my eyes. Apparently it's a massive problem.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/01/2019 18:48

Could she not perhaps be a bit disoriented. She has been through a very traumatic experience. She may not know what she's saying. I'm surprised she's been confirmed medically fit to do interviews just yet.
Surely she must have people advising her

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 30/01/2019 18:50

Why would she be disoriented?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/01/2019 18:52

Maybe traumatised is the word I'm looking for.

Kummerspeck · 30/01/2019 18:57

When I travelled to Dubai I had to take medicines in original packaging with a copy of the prescription or a doctor's letter.

This woman fraudulently obtained a controlled drug over here, defrauding the NHS which no doubt prescribed them into the bargain then smuggled them into another country. Deserves more than she got if you ask me. I think she should be prosecuted here too

49hx · 30/01/2019 19:05

Someone needs to ask questions to the so called friend who gave her the tablets.why stockpile them foe a start.

MissEliza · 30/01/2019 19:18

Dh recently visited Dubai. The GP told him he needed a letter because he takes several medications. He didn't want to pay the £35. I kept telling him Dubai jails aren't very nice and he doesn't want to be pooing in a hole in the ground. He caved in at the last minute and picked up the letter on the way to the airport! He begrudged every penny though!
