To think salted caramel...

... is utter filth?? I mean, who the hell thought caramel and salt actually go together? Do you think someone used salt instead of sugar and thought "hang on, I might be able to get away with this...."

Or AIBU and cynical...

Anything with a cheery prosecco-based slogan can fuck off though... And the same for "gin o'clock".

AGHHHH · 30/01/2019 12:29

*Filth?

Bit strong, no?

Bad day, op?*

Hmm really?

trulybadlydeeply · 30/01/2019 12:33

I love the sweet /salty combination, and have just had a snack of jumbo raisins with vintage cheddar. It was heaven.

Agree about Prosecco though.

Dollygirl2008 · 30/01/2019 15:57

Halfwitpicker hahaha!! Yes it was a bit of a bad day but it was made worse by a cooking programme where she baked a perfectly beautiful chocolate cake, made a divine caramel filling AND RUINED IT Y PUTTING SALT IN IT!!!!!! GGGGRRRRRR

It's amazing because of the unholy trinity. Fat, sugar and salt. Yummmmmmm

Purpleartichoke · 30/01/2019 16:10

Fake salted caramel is gross and pointless.

Real handmade caramels with a sprinkle of sea salt are a gift from the heavens. Even better if the caramel is made with apple cider as the base.

Howlovely · 30/01/2019 16:23

I absolutely love it. My dirty pleasure is thick white bread (toasted), lashings of butter, golden syrup and salt. Delicious!

PickAChew · 30/01/2019 16:25

I love salted caramel but then I love pineapple with ham, too, even on pizza.

Geekster1963 · 30/01/2019 16:27

In one way YABU I love it but in another way YANBU because if you don't like it like you it is everywhere.

dudsville · 30/01/2019 16:53

I agree with you OP. I love caramel. I miss it.

SoftBlocks · 30/01/2019 17:04

Sweet and salty together are amazing!
Pork and apple, duck and cherries, salted peanuts and jelly beans eaten together...

I absolutely hate the taste of salted caramel, but I only tasted this flavour combination recently. Worst thing is, I've been buying salted caramel presents for other people for several years - and now I feel really bad about it. Never again!

HerRoyalNotness · 30/01/2019 18:28

Salt and sweet is a match made in heaven.

Crisps and icecream, strawberries and pepper with balsamic as examples. Love salted caramel, and the best chocolate cake I’ve had was salted chocolate. See also sprinkling of rock salt on top of chocolate chip cookies. Yum yum!

Actually my DS might have created a new cookie the other day. He baked some snickerdoodles and unbeknownst to me added a drop of lemon to the top. It was really good

MaMisled · 30/01/2019 18:32

I resisted trying it for ages. It sounded yuk. But oh my goodness! It's delicious! Mallow and Marsh Salted Caramel lumps make me want to weep with joy and only 222 calories for a whole bag!!!!

Galvantula · 31/01/2019 20:23

See I like bacon+ maple syrup + pancakes.

Also fine with apple in sausages and even random fruit curry and that sort of thing.

Just when I'm looking at a dessert menu, it'd be nice to occasionally not have the cheesecake be frickin salted caramel.

Just caramel is fine.

Maybe all you salt lovers can just use the table salt? Wink

So annoyed at salted caramel I had to post twice Blush

needsleepzzz · 31/01/2019 20:43

Toddlerteaplease · 31/01/2019 20:51

Oo bacon abs maple syrup. Drools

Severide08 · 31/01/2019 21:55

Never tried it Hmm to me salt and caramel shouldn't go together .Think i will give it a miss Grin.

Sweetpea55 · 31/01/2019 22:25

Thinking about all those lovely deserts that were in the shops at Christmas and most of them were bowky salted caramel. It's too weird for words

IAmWonderWoman · 01/02/2019 07:07

I hate anything sweet and savoury together. Sweet should be for puddings only. I love savoury food.
