To think salted caramel...

Dollygirl2008 · 29/01/2019 20:15

... is utter filth?? I mean, who the hell thought caramel and salt actually go together? Do you think someone used salt instead of sugar and thought "hang on, I might be able to get away with this...."

Or AIBU and cynical...

It is the best thing ever.

RoboticSealpup · 29/01/2019 20:52

YABU

Caramel needs that additional dimension to be interesting. Plain, unsalted caramel is just cloying, sickly and boring.

Pk37 · 29/01/2019 20:53

YABVU!
It’s amazing

OneStepMoreFun · 29/01/2019 20:57

It's disgusting. I would eat almost anything. But I won't eat that.

Same goes for Hobnobs - revolting sugary salty lumps of grit.
And Oreos - charcoal glued together with dry fondant.
Reece's Peanut butter cups - don't deserve words to describe how nauseating they are: fatty, salty, slimy in a cheap choco-fakery edible plastic casing.

BeanTownNancy · 29/01/2019 21:03

If I am looking for something sweet, I want it sweet. Don't try and savoury my sweet snacks and I won't sweeten your savouries with disgusting additions like putting apple in sausages.
Bleugh. Envy

Dollygirl2008 · 29/01/2019 21:04

Oooohhh onestepmorefun.... disrespecting hobnobs - that's fighting talk!!! But I totally agree with you about Oreos...

Nope - never the salted caramel but there was a cooking programme on earlier and she made a salted caramel cake - I just thought "enough already"

It's aweful, all I can taste is the salt!! I keep seeing lovely desserts on menus, and the I realize it's been salted WTF, they're not chips!

PlumCakeChica · 29/01/2019 21:14

I’m hoping we’ve reached peak salted caramel. Something new please.

Topttumps · 29/01/2019 21:22

I was always with you op. I refused to eat it because it seemed so wrong. However actually it is gorgeous.

Sciurus83 · 29/01/2019 21:24

Agreed! Abhorrent stuff

squelchyeye · 29/01/2019 21:29

If we're getting rid of salted caramel can we get rid of Prosecco too?

scaryteacher · 29/01/2019 21:29

I had the best salted caramel ice cream ever on a rainy night in Copenhagen. There was a little ice cream shop just down from the restaurant we went to, and I had two scoops of it. I went cross eyed and weak kneed, it was so delicious.

I also have salt caramel spread in my cupboard, and I adore bacon and maple syrup together, especially with American pancakes for breakfast.

IAmWonderWoman · 29/01/2019 21:34

I am looking for something sweet, I want it sweet. Don't try and savoury my sweet snacks and I won't sweeten your savouries with disgusting additions like putting apple in sausages. Bleugh.

Yeah that’s my thoughts too.

yogafailure · 29/01/2019 21:37

I didn't mind it initially but it's bloody everywhere and I'm completely over it now 🤢

beela · 29/01/2019 21:46

@muddymoose lindt dark chocolate with sea salt. Just so good.

beela · 29/01/2019 21:50

Yes I'm over prosecco. And especially all the shopping bags and wall prints with 'funny' prosecco slogans ('oops I bought more cheap shit fizzy wine prosecco'; 'this home runs on love and cheap shit fizzy wine prosecco' etc)

Didsomeonesaybunny · 29/01/2019 21:52

Salted caramel is a taste sensation! Agree though it’s everywhere

tillytrotter1 · 29/01/2019 21:55

Just finished my Christmas box of Charbonnel et Walker Salt Caramel truffles, very down in the dumps.

In the States we bought a Ben and Jerry tub of ice cream with a molten salt caramel centre, bliss, it's not the same as the one avaiable here.

Now banofee pie, even the name makes me heave! I love bananas but loathe anything banana flavoured.

RupaulsGagRace · 29/01/2019 21:57

YABU
Salt on ANYTHING makes it much better. My arteries will die but the salt shall live on!!

HenweeArcher · 29/01/2019 21:58

I bloody love the stuff. But what annoys me is a lot of what claims to be ‘salted caramel’ flavour is just ‘cheap caramel’ flavour with no salt.

Agree with PP re: dark chocolate and sea salt. Food of the gods!

tillytrotter1 · 29/01/2019 21:58

If we're getting rid of salted caramel can we get rid of Prosecco too?

Oh yes please, it's not champagne, stop treating it like it is, it's the Babycham of the 21st century. I was allowed a Babycham on New Years Eve when I was about 8, for the rest of her life, another 50 years, my Aunt couldn't understand why I didn't drink it, But you used to love it!

Neversurrender65 · 29/01/2019 22:00

Grate some seriously high cocoa percentage chocolate into chilli con carne if you want a taste sensation. It what the Aztecs used to do with chilli......

Gigglebrain · 29/01/2019 22:04

Omg YAB SO U!
Salted caramel is the best. Get a grip woman 😂

Serin · 29/01/2019 22:08

Reminds me of snot.

Ladyoftheloch · 29/01/2019 22:09

It’s overdone now, but I generally love salty and sweet together!
