To be sick to death of cake smashes?

I am so sick of this strange new phenomenon. It might even be worse than baby showers, at least you don't normally get people sending a million photos of those! What a ridiculous American (no doubt) thing to do - waste of cake, fake set-up pictures, expensive clothes bought specifically to be ruined...... ok rant over!

I hate all posed photo shoots, like the babies in buckets or on a sheepskin rug, or the while family dressed in denim against a white background 🤮. I've not seen a cake smash but it doesn't surprise me.

imbatman · 29/01/2019 09:11

I just googled adult cake smash...what the fuck? ConfusedConfusedConfused

Noteventhebirdsareupyet · 29/01/2019 09:17

Oh you've made me Google adult cake smash now imbatman - disturbing doesn't even begin to describe it!

They are very much a thing and not just for photoshoots. Some people in my antenatal group did these at their baby's 1st birthday parties, thankfully not ones we were able to attend.

No way would I want my DC to watch a cake smash. I want them to grow up with respect for food. We don't play with it or waste it.

It's just grim.

INeedNewShoes · 29/01/2019 09:19

Oh, and quite often the kid doesn't enjoy it. Someone sent a video to the group of their little girl's cake smash. She was upset and was being forced to do it (this was for a photoshoot so I suppose they'd probably paid through the nose for it). It was disgusting to watch.

Juells · 29/01/2019 09:20

Last Days of The Roman Empire springs to mind Grin

HRTpatch · 29/01/2019 09:22

Awful.
Unbelievably crass.

JustBeenNosey · 29/01/2019 09:23

@Noteventhebirdsareupyet a gender reveal is when the parents don't find out the gender at a scan but take the gender results to a place who will bake a cake with pink or blue inside when cut or do a baboon with pink or blue inside and it is popped.

It's al just an attention seeking thing.. like baby showers.

Utterly pointless

Seline · 29/01/2019 09:24

I fucking hate them.

Take your kid to the zoo or a wacky warehouse you pretentious fucks.

fancynancyclancy · 29/01/2019 09:25

I can’t hate on a family photo shoot otherwise the internet wouldn’t have these gems!

The ones with babies are kinda cute but I does seem like an awful waste of food. The adult ones creep me out a bit.

Sexnotgender · 29/01/2019 09:26

Ridiculous waste of food and tacky as hell.

I feel similar about baby photo shoots with headbands on bald newborns where they are curled up naked on a rug etc.

fancynancyclancy · 29/01/2019 09:26

do a baboon in front of the kids!!!

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 29/01/2019 09:27

Terrible waste of cake! Also you are not revealing gender - it's sex!

MigGril · 29/01/2019 09:28

I thought baby cake smash was and enough all that waste of lovely cake. Then you lot made me Google adult cake smash why oh why do people do these things. How can you do that to such lovely cakes that are made to be eaten and enjoyed (I'm amiter cake backer).

Ginger1982 · 29/01/2019 09:28

I won a cake smash in a competition and took my son for his first birthday. It was fine and I do love the pics but I probably wouldn't have thought to book and pay for one if I hadn't won it!

belleandsnowwhite · 29/01/2019 09:29

I think they are not as popular now. I have never liked them. Most I have seen the baby is not interested is smashing the cake and just licks the icing.

I have seen pictures of trash the dress when a bride jumps in mud or a lake in her wedding dress for a photo shoot. Some people just want any excuse for a photo shoot to put pictures on Social Media.

Pondering1 · 29/01/2019 09:31

A wee bit of harmless fun, no need to be taken so seriously.
We actually did one for my son's first birthday but it was at the end of a professional photo shoot we have booked already so didn't cost us any more money. A homemade little sponge cake plonked down beside him and the look on his little face when he discovered he was allowed to go to town on it. Was actually a good sensory experience for him squishing it through his hands and toes - and whilst the picture is not on our mantle, it is framed in his bedroom!

Bezalelle · 29/01/2019 09:32

You know when historians talk about the dying days of the Roman Empire with all its excesses, and Marie Antoinette before the Revolution? When the fall of Western civilization is recorded, cake smashes will be up there.

Pondering1 · 29/01/2019 09:33

Wedding dress trashing however, just no!! Such a waste of money and if you don't want to keep your dress, pass it on to charity or someone who would be grateful to receive it!

TheCowboy · 29/01/2019 09:35

"do a baboon with pink or blue inside and it is popped."

I think this may just be the greatest typo of all time.

DarkDarkNight · 29/01/2019 09:36

I really dislike them.

We have some really talented photographers near us and I follow them on Facebook. It’s such a waste to pay all that money for photos that will age really badly.

NCjustforthisthread · 29/01/2019 09:37

i dont care for it myself - but surely to each their own? Perhaps you dont do it yourlself if you dont like it........

shpoot · 29/01/2019 09:38

Oh I hate them. And gender reveals. And baby showers. Boring and tacky. The cake smashing makes me feel a bit sick
