Posted something for sale on Facebook earlier and had several replies within an hour or so, quickly arranged for a lady to collect the item tomorrow morning for the advertised price. Someone else messaged me offering half the asking price and when I politely declined and told them it was sold pending collection, sent a delightful reply:

“Lol whatever Must b nice to be able to sit on ur arse at home selling things and not having to work if ur able to arrange collection on a Tuesday morning”

I have a job, I just don’t work Tuesdays Grin

Just thought I’d share this CFery Wink

Fuck off with the constant whining about Brexit. Is there any subject left on the planet that can be discussed without Brexit bashing? It's beyond pathetic.

Now, back to this thread which I have enjoyed reading. OP, she had a bloody cheek. I hope you've heard the last of her.

I love reading Freecycle - you get people offering three empty coffee jars and then people wanting stuff like vintage Starwars, pinball machine, 32" tv lol Grin

I think that lots of children are growing up with a huge feeling of self entitlement and it obviously lasts into adulthood.

I was selling an iPhone 5s for £30 on fb marketplace few months months back, I have learnt my lesson in the past to put ‘no offers’ some cheeky cow wanted it for £25 said no it’s £30 no offers, then get the sob story but my friend needs it & will cost to unlock the network, still said no, she got really shitty so blocked her, only to have another friend start on me, I replied back would they go the supermarket & buy £30 worth of goods & only offer the cashier £25? Soon shut up & went away!

mothertruck3r · 30/01/2019 17:44

There is a whole reddit forum dedicated to this kind of thing;

I’ve jsut advertised stuff on my local Facebook selling pages and was pleased when I got four responses fairly quickly. However, two of the responders said theyndon’t drive so could I take it to them! Err no, it would cost me more in petrol!

Housemum · 30/01/2019 18:04

I skimmed the Brexit bit but feel bad for he poster of that whomhas just been slated on here - he or she probably feels crushed now as they thought they were being funny.
Anyway, back to topic - when we sold a playhouse (wooden one) on eBay we did get a message asking how mich to deliver to Cornwall. Not sure which but of “collection only” and “will be dismantled ready for collection” they misunderstood!

Have had the nasty messages from people who believe they have a right to something because they put “interested” - i sold some dressing up clothes, someone did that and a short while later I got an offer for the full price. I did message the “interested” person and got no reply, told the other lady to come and collect which she did. I messaged back the “interested” person to confirm they’d gone and got the reply that I was so unfair as they’d been at work and couldn’t have a phone on. Funny that I could see that they’d read my reply on messenger within 5 minutes... (and if they were at break they could have done exactly what I once did on a FB sale post - i messaged to say “I’m at work finishing at x time, please let me get home to measure as I’m interested”).

You get a lot of CFs on the newer selling sites full stop. Shpock isn't far behind and on a par with vinted. The issues I had with a vinted seller! Stuffed up the sale for the sake which was her fault then when I tried to buy it again as she refunded me she refused to sell the item to me making up a crappy excuse ! Not to mention the person who asked if I'd post something for free...if I'd done that I would have been minus 50p, worse than giving it away for free!

Block all the CFs if you can.
As to the lady with the Hunter wellies buyer that is CFery that deserves an award!!!!!
Hmm

Clairaloulou · 30/01/2019 18:12

There’s a woman in my local area who’s always on asking for free stuff then a few weeks later she’ll be on selling it. Hmm

Holyshitbags · 30/01/2019 18:13

@janicebattersby
I am 😳 about you taking your bugaboo to the tip.
Please, everyone, even if something is worn please offer it free for collection to people - you would be so very surprised what people want/need. I’m always championing giving people the chance before I take it to the tip.
Also, if someone is local and seemed in need I’d deliver - after all if I’m taking it to the tip why not take it to them instead - at least it keeps it out of landfill!!!
My friend sent her pram to the tip - it was identical to mine that I’d paid £1500 for. I nearly cried. I think maybe people just don’t think that other people will want to put their babies in something second hand. But new prams are sooooo expensive!!

BlueJava · 30/01/2019 18:22

I have also been surprised by some people's reactions when selling on facebook! I sold some Lego - the first guy to contact me agreed to come in the morning and said he'd pay full price. I then let another person know that it was being collected in the morning... he started messaging me offering more money, saying he wanted to come now, asking me exact details of figures. I again replied "sorry, I promised the first person to respond that he could see it and pay me in the morning, if he doesn't have I will definitely let you know". He replied and started telling me how stupid I was for not taking more money and how women are all the same. I was like "Wow, it's just lego!" :)

I’m admin for a local FB freecycle type page, the CFery is very entertaining.
From my own perspective, I tried to sell my old car for £2,700 (was £300 or so under book price) on FB. I had one bloke offer to swap for the same car but 5 years older than mine (I would add I didn’t need another car as I already had a new one) and another chap offered me £1,600. When I said (v politely) no, sorry, it’s worth more than that, he got quite aereated and said he knew it was worth more, but his wife had just passed her test and this would be perfect for her and he only had £1,600 and she wanted my car. I told him that that was not my problem, but I had already knocked £300 off, at which point he called me every name going. I then told him if that was his stance he should just fuck off and buy what he can afford. I’ve got a few stories like that one....
In the flip side I’ve had some very positive selling experiences.

couchparsnip · 30/01/2019 18:28

I sold a bike on facebook just before Xmas for £70 and the buyer text me to say it had got a puncture on his way home Apparently I ought to come and pick up the bike, get the puncture fixed and get it back to him as he didnt drive and needed the bike to get to work. Er... no.

MakeItAmazing · 30/01/2019 18:29

I need to know if welly lady came back!

katseyes7 · 30/01/2019 18:32

l once sold a pair of "ripped River lsland jeans" on ebay. "Ripped" in the description, with very clear closeup photos of the tears on the thighs. And a caveat at the bottom of the description, asking people to make sure they were happy with the condition of them before they bid.
They sold, so l posted them off. The day after they arrived with the buyer, l got a message on ebay complaining that they were "ripped" and left me some very snotty feedback!
l didn't even engage with them. Opened a dispute with ebay who l have to say were wonderful, put the buyer straight that she was being totally ridiculous, reimbursed me the money, and deleted their feedback. Within the day. They didn't delete the feedback l left, though!

The brass neck of some people has to be seen to be believed. And some of the previous posters are totally right - people don't appreciate things if they get them for nothing!

ToftyAC · 30/01/2019 18:34

@yearinyearout
I run a local freebie site on FB like you mention. And yes, they can be CFs. But if anyone is found to be selling anything gifted (unless agreed with the gifter) they get kicked and we give their names to other local freebie sites.

MakeItAmazing · 30/01/2019 18:42

I sold a car seat and once I heard she needed two more arranged for a twin mum to bring hers round. Mum was thrilled with her excellent quality bargain car seats. Felt terrible when she drove off with her glasses on the roof that fell off and were driven over. Bargain wiped out Sad.

ShannonRockallMalin · 30/01/2019 18:51

Not CFs but funny - we once sold a mid sleeper bed complete with pull out desk on local FB selling page. A couple from the next village who spoke very little English bought it and said they would collect.

They turned up in literally smallest car ever, think old style mini metro size. I hadn’t offered the mattress for sale but as it was fairly new they decided to have it as well. Somehow they got the entire bed and mattress in/onto this car in the dark. No ropes or anything. The mattress was hanging off the back. They trundled off at a snail’s pace. I knew they would have to drive alongside a river on their way back and fully expected to see the mattress floating in it the next day, but by some miracle it wasn’t!

ChampagneCharley · 30/01/2019 18:58

On the local FB selling pages I gave away a posh bin (think brabantia type) it was a bit old but too good to go to the tip. One CF asked if it had any rust and another message me to ask if I would deliver it to her mum’s!! It’s FREE at least bloody well come and pick it up!! Angry

whodidapoopoointhebath · 30/01/2019 19:04

We’ve also had CF with free stuff, not even saying thank you.

We sold a bed and mattress, they came to collect and I wondered for they were going to fit it in their saloon car, they’d also bought their wife and two children. They didn’t really speak English and were obviously short of money. We felt sorry for them and delivered it to their house, but we had to take both of our cars!! At least they were grateful

lotusbell · 30/01/2019 19:14

The ones where you ask if it's available etc, show interest and you never hear back. Days later, item is still for sale. Then they reply saying no it's gone. Then don't take the post down. Fuck um.

Zillaindie · 30/01/2019 19:17

I was selling some Baby equipment last year. Woman arranged to collect, gave her my address and postcode.
No problem, with you at 2pm.

An hour later I get a text saying running late.

Then another text saying you don't live in x, you live in y. It's miles away.

Yeah mate. Think I know where I live.

MulticolourMophead · 30/01/2019 19:31

I'm on a local freecycle site, and the admins are actually good. One person was asking if anyone had spare wool as they were learning to crochet. I had some spare, offered it, delivered as I was on the way past that area, all agreed and a lvely message back.

Another person was asking if anyone had a double bed free, I offered one I was thinking about selling, heard nothing back. So I think I'll go and put it up for sale now.

I've sold stuff on gumtree before, but this thread has shown me some tricks people play that I hadn't come across, which is good.

Deploycharitygoats · 30/01/2019 19:34

A lovely one.

Gave away a chest of drawers on Freecycle, very polite (if excitable) messages from a woman saying she’d collect that evening. When she arrived, she full on gushed at the drawers about how lovely they were and how she was going to paint them and put new handles on.

I asked if she’d be alright getting it to her car, especially given the height of her heels, and she just waved her arm around and shouted “Simon!” Her frankly massive boyfriend trudged out of the car and picked it up with the most long suffering expression I’ve ever seen Grin

She even sent me photos once it was done. Now I just want a Simon that I can summon with a wave of the arm, for all my heavy lifting needs.

RightOh · 30/01/2019 19:37

I posted a wardrobe for sale on my local FB selling page. I wrote the exact measurements, included lots of photos.

A lady messaged saying she absolutely wanted the wardrobe, it was perfect, but could only pick up on a Wednesday morning (almost a week later) and could only pay half of my asking price. I didn't want to haggle and it's a big item to collect, bit of a hassle size-wise so I changed an appointment and shift to accommodate her and we swapped contact details.

The collection time came and went - I phoned, no answer. An hour later I got a text saying 'Soz just read the size the wardrobe is too big, won't fit so don't want it."

I was seething. It's not like she didn't have a WHOLE WEEK to measure it. I vowed never to put myself out again. BUT karma works in funny ways..

she messaged again another hour or so later saying 'my boyfriend has measured, he said it will fit so will come now, thanks.'

I didn't reply to tell her I wouldn't be in (might have made sure I wasn't...) I just re-listed the wardrobe...and sold it at full price the next day to a buyer that came within the hour.

RelaisBlu · 30/01/2019 19:37

Years ago I was selling a child's size violin, quite a good one for £600. A very well-spoken woman rang me up and after discussing the instrument in detail said she didn't want to buy it but could she borrow it for her son because "we should all support each other's endeavours to create a passion for music in our children" Shock She was so confident I got the impression she rarely had the experience of people saying no to her!

Onecutefox · 30/01/2019 19:38

Lol, OpGrin

I once was told by another parent it would have been nice to be a SAHM to be able to read books all day long. (I haven't read a whole book for ages as I don't have time for it). At the time I was a SAHM.
Another lady told me I must be knitting all day long. Grin
