I’m a single mother with 3 children, my eldest works part time, and supports his own living expenses and pays me a token rent. My other two, 16 and 13 are dependent on me.

We live in SW London ...

How much is enough? I don’t drink or smoke, leaving holidays out, I drive a car, costs abou £60 a month in petrol... how much do I need for food, clothes, entertainment after all essentials paid ?

I'm a single mother too with 2 children. I work full time and after all living expenses are taken out I'm left with £500 - £600 per month over but depending if both fathers pay their child maintenance or not.

How long is a piece of string? How much do you need to spend on clothing or food? How much do you earn? How much are your bills?

If someone posts that they have £5 each month, or £5,000, it’s not going to be relevant to your circumstances as their outgoings will be different.

Enough is when you have cash left at the end of the month.

I'm also a single parent, work full time. But I don't live in London.

Currently nothing left over as every last penny is going towards necessary house renovations. It's totally drained us. My DPs have very kindly paid for our groceries past few days and some bills.

I have about £200 pounds per week after I've made my contribution to mortgage and bills. My DH has about the same.
Sometimes less if I need to contribute to a car repair or something needs doing in the house.

But my scenario is completely different to yours: I am not a single parent and we both work full time in professional careers outside of London.

What other people have left isn't really going to be useful information to you, though. Everyone's circumstances are different.

about £1000 between 2 adults and 3 dc. I am considering a job change which would take it down to £600 which scares me a bit....
