To be worried about my sister and the face at the window.

My sister lives in a large house at the top of a longish drive in a very quiet residential area.

She was sitting watching TV with her curtains open, this evening. She often does this as she is not overlooked by neighbours.

She happened to glance up to see a man staring at her through the window. She jumped up and he ran away.

She then saw two men running away down her road. She switched the lights off and watched from a bedroom window. The two men appeared again and stealthily walked back up her road keeping close to the hedges and started to approach her house. They must have caught sight of her in the window and they ran away.

She is really frightened, I live a few hundred miles away and obviously can’t get to her tonight. I wonder was it an attempted burglary or a peeping Tom or a silly prank. I wonder how seriously we should treat this.
She is alone with her teenage son. It’s a very low crime area.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

She needs to call the police for help immediately

supermum85 · 27/01/2019 23:36

she needs to call the police

BillywigSting · 27/01/2019 23:36

Agreed police now.

Your poor sister, that would scare the shit out of me.

NCjustforthisthread · 27/01/2019 23:36

Police now.

feministfairy · 27/01/2019 23:37

Don't hesitate to call the police -this is what they are there for.

DeRigueurMortis · 27/01/2019 23:37

Yes - she needs to call the police.

Cranky17 · 27/01/2019 23:37

Call the police

Belle89 · 27/01/2019 23:38

So scary, does she have anyone locally who can stay with her tonight? A friend, anyone

TGNL · 27/01/2019 23:38

She needs to ring the police! A week or so ago the same thing happens to two young girls but they was in a car at and the man was as bold to try and open the door after they seen him!

stonecoldfoxx · 27/01/2019 23:41

Phone the police

Birdsgottafly · 27/01/2019 23:42

As well as phoning the Police, she should shut all the curtains, but have lights on in every room.

If it makes her feel safer, after speaking to the Police, who'll put her on a quick response time, she should take a hammer etc up to bed with her and I'd barracde myself in.

It a planned robbery. Does she gas a decent car that they may be after?

Either that or they're hitting the area and are just on scouting missions until later.

WhataMissMap · 27/01/2019 23:43

She has called the police, they are going to send a car.
She hasn’t seen anything else that is suspicious. She has a dog but he didn’t hear a thing, he’s a real yapper normally too, he was asleep in her sons room.

Why would the man just have been standing there staring at her? Just to frighten her? So odd!

I've just seen she has a Teen DS, she needs to wake him and tell him.

They should really sleep in the same room.

Has he been in any bother?

babyinthacorner · 27/01/2019 23:44

This is my absolute worst nightmare. Your poor sister! Hope she’s ok x

BluePheasant · 27/01/2019 23:44

I'd be straight on to the police if that happened to me. Odd that they returned after being spotted the first time though.

Birdsgottafly · 27/01/2019 23:45

He could have been a distraction, whilst the other two got in the back.

How old is her Son, any possibility that they could be looking for him?

2isabella2 · 27/01/2019 23:46

I had this in a student house in a window to our back garden. We went out to look (!) and he was long gone. We did call police and they took a report but said it was almost certainly an opportunist and we frightened him off. I hope your sister is ok.

C0untDucku1a · 27/01/2019 23:46

How frightening!

LunchBoxPolice · 27/01/2019 23:47

Oh christ that is so creepy. Hope the police get there soon.

Fusioluxe · 27/01/2019 23:48

She needs to up hrrcsecirity. Tell her to ask the police is the area has s crime prevention officer.

Outside lights with sensors
Very visible alarm
Pressure pads in the drive
Etc

ShesABelter · 27/01/2019 23:48

Holy shit that's creepy..if she can afford it and lives in a large house id call some local security companies tomorrow and get a quote for CCTV and an intruder alarm with panic button linked to police response. That means if anyone ever appears again police will be straight there.

WhataMissMap · 27/01/2019 23:48

She has a decent car a 4x4 type but it’s not new or flashy. It’s locked away in the garage.
She has put all the lights on and left the TV on in her sitting room and the radio on in other rooms.

She has retreated to her bedroom with the dog. My dn is taking it very well and is threatening to get his school rugby team around, my DS doesn’t think their mother’s would approve. Thank you for all the advice.

*up her security

Aquamarine1029 · 27/01/2019 23:51

This is not a joke and not a prank. Your sister needs to take this very seriously. I would implore her to have a security system installed as soon as humanly possible. Also, she needs flood lights. And tell her to close her bloody blinds!!

CandleConcerto · 27/01/2019 23:52

We had a guy around our way when I was younger - he just did this to terrorise people. He’d peep in windows, rattle letterboxes etc. They called him the ninja because he’d run over rooftops. I saw him once - well, sillouette just staring back at me. Bloody terrifying!
