Children's toys going off in middle of the night

Hello

Home alone tonight and my child's toy in living room decided to start going off chatting and doing its music three hours after I've been in the room and not been played with today.

About to go to sleep and feeling spooked.

Please please tell me aibu and this happens all the time with your children's toys

Some of ds's toys do this when they are running low in battery. So maybe they are due a change?

Howdidweenduphere · 27/01/2019 23:37

Yes! We've had this with toot toot toys before! It's creepy but agree prob just batteries

OneMoreWish · 27/01/2019 23:39

Yes it's a toot toot toy!

Oh thank you I'll go to sleep a bit easier knowing it's probably that xxx

While sitting toddler GS I tiptoed into his room to check him before going downstairs. I may have gently tweaked a bed cover. I turned to creep out and jumped out of my skin to hear a metallic cry of 'To infinity and beyond! from Buzz Lightyear lurking in the bed!

Kismetjayn · 27/01/2019 23:42

The toot toots in our house go bizarre when due new batteries. Weird sounds, turning on and off, and turning on by themselves!

Stuckbehindthestoppingservice · 27/01/2019 23:45

I scared the living daylights out of myself one time because I thought I could hear footsteps in the garden in the middle of the night. Turned out I just kept stepping on DD's Gruffalo's Child sound book in the dark..

bumblenbean · 27/01/2019 23:48

Yup this happened to me recently and it scared the bejesus out of me! DS has this plastic ball thing that rolls about and talks and it just started up of its own accord one night when I was alone downstairs. To make matters worse, I was (stupidly) watching a really creepy horror movie at the time Shock

SouthWestmom · 27/01/2019 23:49

Heard some bloke in dds room (age 3) saying 'I love you' and panicked thinking she was being abducted my some weirdo. Was the bloody Prince Charming doll that went with Cinderella. They had matching snippets to make conversation from memory. Still remember the fear even 17 years later!

Tea16 · 27/01/2019 23:52

Had this with a Teddy in a toy box... "hold my hand... I love you" wtf??

steff13 · 28/01/2019 00:37

My daughter's Jessie doll from Toy Story talks at random. You're supposed to have to pull the string...

Peppainblanket · 28/01/2019 15:12

This is why I only allow toys I can turn off at bedtime inside the house. GPs often gift toys that don't and they live in the car! I have scared myself silly several.times when DH is away.

I had a Teddy Ruxpin when I was little which used to declare "I love you" in a horrifying exorcist voice when the batteries were going. Scarred for life!

Terribletwos84 · 28/01/2019 15:40

We have a potty that sings when anything is deposited apparently. Instead it starts going off in the middle of the night. Several shouts of get back to bed until we realised 😂😂

DontCallMeCharlotte · 28/01/2019 15:47

It's not just children's toys Blush.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 28/01/2019 15:50

Unless you have a spook like we do. Sceptics I dare you to visit...
Several people have heard a littke boy playing (moving along) toy cars and giggling in our house.
Dc say they have seen /heard him during the night also. We never discuss with them as its a lot to accept!! Dh just about copes!!

Lymphy · 28/01/2019 15:58

Last week my DS woke me up counting to ten then shouted ready or not here I come! I went in asked what he was doing ( it was 2am) he just laughed, I resettled him and went back into our room, I was greeted by music courtesy of Ewan the sheep in my DDs cot ( she was sound asleep) and the TV was on with a static screen. There have been odd things going on in our house for years now ( I’m a total sceptic) but this I just couldn’t explain and I’ll admit I felt been a little bit terrified Shock

WhataMissMap · 28/01/2019 16:02

My son’s Woody toy spoke to me once late at night, from the opposite side of the room. It was terrifying, I removed his batteries! Although it happened about ten years ago I am still very relieved to learn from this thread that he only spoke to me because his battery was running down! Silly me.

MistressDeeCee · 28/01/2019 16:47

DD1 had a talking doll when she was little. Moonfaced rag doll that my mum had bought her. Batteries went and I took them out, never bothered to replace as she still played with the doll, didn't seem fussed if it didn't talk.

Got up to go to the loop very late one night in the dark and heard a soft but clear voice say "Mama"..

I shot back into bed, next morning found doll upright beneath bathroom sink and chucked it in outside bin

rose789 · 28/01/2019 16:54

When I was about 13 I was babysitting my little cousins. They had just moved into a new house and there was boxes etc everywhere. All of a sudden an absolute terrifying giggle started and did not stop. I froze. Then a little voice started saying I love you and let’s go and play.
Bolted into the kids room. This was before mobiles and they hadn’t sorted out a landline yet. Grabbed both kids put them in the same bed and barricaded the door. My aunty and uncle returned about 2 hours later to find me standing over the kids shaking and crying.
Turns out one of the boxes contained toys, one of the batteries was going flat so the doll started talking and moving which then set off other toys around it.
I’ve not been the same since Grin

runsmidgeOMG · 28/01/2019 16:58

we recently had a princess holly "wandy" that went bananas... if I ever hear "do you know what colour the light is" again... 😱😱😱

AnyFarrahFowler · 28/01/2019 17:00

Yep, someone gave DS a toy that made animal noises and for NO REASON AT ALL it started going off one night when I was home alone - and which animal noise was it? The fucking monkeys. Of course it was. I hate monkeys, they scare me, and I’m hearing creepy monkeys screeching at me at 11:30pm. DH thought it was hilarious when he got home - I, however, have never forgotten the bone chilling fear of thinking there were monkeys in my kitchen..

PurplePepperEater · 28/01/2019 17:01

Fucking toot toot! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I’m a car a green car...” from the playroom at night, and 9/10 it’s when DH is on nights
Fucking toot toot 😒

FuckBrussel · 28/01/2019 17:13

My DC had a Furby that went feral when its battery was getting low. It was really quite frightening.

Duchessgummybuns · 28/01/2019 17:18

Had this with a teddy bear, very unnerving to hear “Peekaboo! Where are yoooou?” from the living room

Ratonastick · 28/01/2019 17:33

DS had a funny little teddy that said “Ready or not, i’m coming to find you” in a little sing song voice. It was Shing level psychotic in broad daylight, but scared me shitless at 3am one night. Bloody thing went in the bin,but only after I had cut its electronic gizzards out and smashed them with a hammer (can’t be too careful).

Bluelonerose · 28/01/2019 17:36

Not middle of the night but I once passed ds2 room on my way to the loo to hear something say "peek a boo I see you"

I absolutely shit my pants and ran downstairs screaming for exdh who went to rescue ds2 to find it was one of his toys Blush
