To ask if anyone plays Warhammer. I've just started and I'm addicted...I'm 45 years old and feel like a teenager.

I don’t but my DH used to. The main market is actually adults.

I secretly wished I got into it young but it never happened and I couldn’t be bothered by the time it came to my attention.

Are you playing in a gaming group?

RandomMess · 27/01/2019 21:40

DH plays Blood Bowl instead, full team is only 16 figures Wink

The warhammer armies long gone!

Therunecaster · 27/01/2019 21:43

Just started in a group. DH plays Eldar and I've just got a dark eldar army. Had my first battle today!

My DS is just getting into it - my sister works at HQ so we get a big discount!

Therunecaster · 27/01/2019 21:54

Lucky you. I've just bought an army. Eye watering price!

Cost is phenomenal. My DH has some figures still from years ago and they sell for ridiculous amounts on eBay.

My DH also likes Blood Bowl.

I stick to more standard Euro games as they’re easy to dip in and out of.

icclemunchy · 28/01/2019 00:08

My OH used to play a lot until it changed a few years back (no clue what they changed I just remember him waffling about it a lot!) and blood bowl too. He'd go off up north once a year for some big competition thing.

Its not my thing but his uncle used to paint/customise the figures and some of them were absolutly stunning and so detailed

Slothcuddles · 28/01/2019 00:12

I recently sold half of one set, loads missing it went for £80! So glad my ds have outgrown it (just kids around here) it’s so expensive.

Kismetjayn · 28/01/2019 00:17

We do! And 3 year old DD!
Lots of hours spent hunting bargains on eBay to afford it though. Slightly misspelled things are the best.

C0untDucku1a · 28/01/2019 00:19

My dh plays. blood angels. He also paints the figures for himself and others. He is very careful and does a good job. But if i ask him to paint a wall...

JasperKarat · 28/01/2019 00:24

@C0untDucku1a not just my DH then! He stared painting the landing five months ago there is a beam that needs a second coat and the loft hatch need painting (he ran out of paint before finishing), he still hasn't gone back to it. He has however painstakingly painted a number of miniatures for dungeons and bloody dragons under a daylight magnifying lamp!!

Londonwriter · 28/01/2019 01:01

I play Kill Team, Blood Bowl and Warhammer Underworlds. Also have the new Blackstone Fortress game, which I recently played with DH and my mum, and have read a fair few tie-in novels (currently reading some Horus Heresy).

My mum is 72. I’m a 39-year-old mum of a DS (aged two) so this is definitely not just a bloke thing.

I love painting the minis and have a few lovingly painted tyranids, although painting my Adeptus Mechanicus Kill Team is coming on slowly with having a toddler to look after.

motherone · 28/01/2019 01:17

Hubby plays warhammer 40k, blood bowl and guild ball. So my house is coming down with it!! Ridiculous amount of money!! Needless to say had to be cut down post babies!! Lol

Therunecaster · 28/01/2019 01:30

Glad to know I'm not alone!

OP posts:
Seline · 28/01/2019 01:32

I don't but I use the miniatures for D&D!

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 28/01/2019 01:56

I spent 85quid on a Baneblade tank for my son's 22nd birthday last week.

vampirethriller · 28/01/2019 03:51

I love the Warhammer novels.

user1488622199 · 28/01/2019 04:25

I was a warhammer widow but my husband has given up now. I lost patience for it the time he took a week off work to paint his models so he was ready for a competition but it meant he didn’t have any leave left to go on holiday 😡😡. Same as pp, he has beautifully painted models with intricate detail but is a nightmare when painting walls, totally slapdash. It’s all cluttering up our garage - he keeps talking about eBay but think he’s finding it hard to let go...

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 28/01/2019 07:15

You people are how the Game Workshop is still going Grin

Therunecaster · 28/01/2019 07:22

It's probably a bit cheatie but I have bought a painted army of Dark Eldar to avoid spending the time building and painting.

OP posts:
CrazyKitkatLady · 28/01/2019 07:25

I love it! Don't get as much time as I'd like for painting but find it really relaxing when I do.

GinDaddy · 28/01/2019 07:28

Always been dead curious to start playing but never got round to it. Kudos to you all for such a fun hobby, never know you might inspire me!

RandomMess · 28/01/2019 08:38

Blood bowl is much cheaper as the teams are tiny, you can play in leagues or go to tournaments. GW only sell it on line now though but there are plenty of other companies that make and sell teams.

Best way to describe it is a bit like chess but with uneven opponents and the randomness of dice!

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 28/01/2019 08:45

I'm a warhammer widow. My DH has been obsessed since a child. He has amazing painting skills but it's taken over the house!

40k is his obsession.

Kismetjayn · 28/01/2019 08:49

Not cheaty at all imho! A good friend of mine makes his money painting miniatures. He's incredibly talented, and if people don't have the time or ability to paint as well as he does, Wu shouldn't they pay for beautiful models? Nothing wrong with buying painted!
