To ask which audiobook converter to MP3 you might have used? And are they all slow?

I'm a bit of a luddite. Bought DS an MP3 player for his audiobooks, then realised I had to convert the MP4s in my iTunes to MP3s.

I tried one software but it literally took hours to convert a 2 hour audiobook.

Any suggestions of what software is good? For a mac. And how long it shoul take?

I have extracted the audio from an mp4 (movie) file, to mp3. I use VLC from www.videolan.org/.

There are some tutorials on YouTube "How to Convert MP4 to MP3 with VLC". I followed this one

It took me a couple of goes to get it working correctly, but it extracts the audio from a 50 minute mp4 in about three minutes.
