To still not know which gym classes are better for weighloss cardio or weight training(body pump)

I have been really good with going to gym classes in the last two years, however I have failed to loose 3kg about 6.5 pounds.

I have been attending cardio classes 3 times a week, body step, combat or attack. A friend has recommended body pump 3 times a week instead.

AIBU to still think Cardio burns more calories.I know it’s 80 percent diet but just want to earn my wine glasses. Never drink more than 2.

I'm at DL but we're not getting blaze. Which is crap when they've still ramped the prices up by 10%. We have the shittest, smallest DL going with the least classes I reckon.

Are you weighing food and being honest about tracking? Because there is 100% no way you've been eating at 1200kcal per day, wine or no wine, AND going to the gym 5 days a week, and not losing weight unless you're about 4'8".

I don't think you need to worry about 6.5 pounds, because it's really nothing if you're that close to a healthy weight, but the numbers you've stated just don't add up.

I think they both count but it’s more about calories in and out of weight loss is your goal. I don’t go by weight - i do use a body composition machine regularly to check if I am losing fat/gaining muscle.

I mix both - boxing which is high impact cardio twice a week, two weight based classes and a roller derby session just for fun 😬 I also wear a Fitbit ionic which tracks my calories burnt - I am pretty certain it over counts but it does give me a good idea of what a session has done for me.

#Oldermummy2019 - how's it going?

PalmTree101 · 23/02/2019 15:38

The best exercise is one you enjoy, and do often

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 23/02/2019 16:08

Body pump is great, I used to go twice weekly and spin and a hit class too. These days with small DC, pump classes clash with DHs sport team training every other week so I can't get the regular attendance I used to and although I'm an average size my body tone has gone down the toilet Sad

See, I massively disagree that diet is better for exercise than weightloss - if you want to keep the weight off, anyway.

Dieting messes with your metabolism, weights improve them. Dieting loses you weight. Exercise changes your lifestyle to the point you won't put it back on again.

I know plenty of people who dieted off their weight and put it on again. I know a few who did it with exercise and sensible diet improvements, and they have been more successful.

For myself, I was in such a good exercise regime, that I took two months off keeping an eye on my diet (wedding and honeymoon - not eating crazily every meal but say, a burger or fish and chips every day) and I still lost 3lb.

Any update @Oldermummy2019 did you stick with body pump?

Oldermummy2019 · 25/06/2019 13:04

Hello Ona,

I have stuck to exercise but not body pump, I have been going to blaze, running and kettle bells. My body shape has improved but not lost the weight I want to loose. Only 3 kilos to loose but it won’t go off. Increased muscle mass according to the machine at the gym. I skip meals and drink 2 glasses of wine most nights. It that my error?

Calories wise I rarely exceed 1500 but it’s mainly cabs.
