People who don't vaccinate..,

boraboring · 26/01/2019 17:15

I've just had a discussion with someone who has chosen not to vaccinate their child.

They believed that their child would get autism, and said 'well, if your child is vaccinated then why do you have to worry about whether my child is vaccinated or not?'

I've not been on mn long so sorry if this is something that's discussed a lot.

AIBU to think it's scary that people don't vaccinate for these reasons? (I thought he autism thing was a myth anyway and proven to be?)

I read that anti vaxxers are in the top 10 major global health risks in 2019.

I just don't get it. It's compulsory in France now isn't it?

I wish it was here. My son is 3 months old and immunocompromised and I am scared he will end up catching something awful.

ani vax movement one of the top 10 global threats to health...

There's a very long thread about this running at the moment, lots of views on there

Schmoobarb · 26/01/2019 17:20

They’re complete idiots. Evidently overlooking not only the fact that your son is too young to be fully vaccinated, the whole concept of herd immunity, but of course the fact that vaccination doesn’t cause autism anyway.

I’d wager that growing up with these idiots for parents will be a greater detriment to the child than autism would have been anyway.

MyBreadIsEggy · 26/01/2019 17:22

When any anti-vaxxer tries to use the autism theory to back up their idiotic decision I always put this to them:

If vaccination did cause autism (WHICH THEY FUCKING DON’T), wouldn’t you rather have a child with autism than a child who is blind/deaf/infertile/paralysed/dead because they caught a preventable disease?

I would.

boraboring · 26/01/2019 17:24

@caughtinanet could you send me the link please? I've tried to search it but can only find one from 2016.

I know a anti-vaxxer who believes not only that the MRR causes autism, but that the government are covering this up.

I always think 1) Even if the MMR did cause autism (which I don't believe it does) I'd rather have a child alive with autism than one who was dead, and 2) what possible benefit would there be for the government to cause autism in hundreds of children?

Santaclarita · 26/01/2019 17:38

They are stupid but not much you can do. There's recently been an outbreak of measles amongst an anti vaxxer group in America. Sad for the children that they must suffer because of their parents but not much that can be done.

I would just avoid her. Stupidity gets you nowhere. Wouldn't want to associate with her.

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 26/01/2019 17:39

KitKat1985 exactly, what benefit is this conspiracy brining to the government?

boraboring · 26/01/2019 17:52

I love that they've made it compulsory in France. I wonder if that will err happen here...

Member869894 · 26/01/2019 18:33

they are beyond stupid

Zoflorabore · 26/01/2019 18:35

There's a phrase that pops up every time on the anti vaxx threads and it sums it up for me- "you can't argue with stupid".

OwlBeThere · 26/01/2019 18:36

If vaccination did cause autism (WHICH THEY FUCKING DON’T), wouldn’t you rather have a child with autism than a child who is blind/deaf/infertile/paralysed/dead because they caught a preventable disease

That’s a monumentally crass thing to say for a number of reasons. The implication that being deaf or blind is ‘worse’ than being autistic is massive rude to deaf or blind people who live totally normal lives, it also minimises the struggles associated with autism.
Whatever your views on vaccines this isn’t a nice thing to say.

boraboring · 26/01/2019 18:39

@OwlBeThere my child suffers with one of the things mentioned in that post. I agree but understand the point so couldn't really be bothered to argue...

Roald Dahl lost his eldest daughter to measles and wrote about her death alongside the importance of vaccinating children.

isItruined · 26/01/2019 18:45

I used to be an anti vaxxer

tiggerkid · 26/01/2019 18:45

My friend chose not to vaccinate her children. They seem to be fine.

Shallishanti123 · 26/01/2019 18:48

I was shocked when my DH’s nephew caught mumps. Turns out SIL believes MMR causes autism. Hmm poor kid got fricken mumps!!!

isItruined · 26/01/2019 18:50

My eldest daughter was also unvaccinated and fine ...
Until she caught whooping cough and was absolutely, overwhelming not fine

I couldn’t get those catch up vaccinations fast enough after that and all my other children have been vaccinated too

isItruined · 26/01/2019 18:50

*overwhelmingly

OftenHangry · 26/01/2019 18:51

Do they say sorry?

People who don't vaccinate..,
kitkatsky · 26/01/2019 18:51

YANBU I'm sorry about your immuno compromises child!

isItruined · 26/01/2019 18:52

My eldest also has autism. She had that long before she ever had any vaccinations

EwItsAHooman · 26/01/2019 18:54

Numerous studies have shown there is no link between vaccines and autism, mercury and autism, MMR and autism, thimerosal and autism.... Basically vaccines don't cause autism.

PaddyF0dder · 26/01/2019 18:56

They’re idiots who think worthless opinion trumps basic fact.

Frankly it should be treated as a child protection issue. It should also exclude the kids from public nurseries, schools etc. Soft plays etc should also have the right to exclude entry.

Fuck em.
