Aibu to be fed up of watching shock and awe charity adverts on tv.. And guilt tripping you into paying £3 a month or another little sum that you could afford but some months it's tight and can't.

When the ceo is on thousands!!

Puts me off giving to charities

I get that charities need to pay CEOs the right salary to attract talent, but why do they need central London swanky offices?

I went to a well-known children's charity HQ a while back and the board table was nearly 20ft long made from regency mahogany. A similar table is for sale online for >£15k. Another charity had a hand-made logo-d rug the size of my sitting room, must have cost £5k+ ...... I now don't support either of them.

These tv commercials for charities, hospitals, save this, save that who is saving us.

While we all feel bad for these people there are agencies tha5 are supposed to help them. If you play them once in a while no problem but all day long it’s distressing.

I think the relentless ad campaigns in TV has hardened me. Yes, I feel sorry. But I don't believe my money is going to whats depicted on the screen. It's there to push you to donate.

I'd rather pay more tax and let the government give measured funding. Until that happens I'll keep my money to myself.

Besides, most of these that are asking for aid, the supplies seldom reach their destination. I've read countless times where food aid or supplies has been seized and in some cases dispersed amongst those actually creating the problem...war zones, famine etc etc

I'm particularly sick of the ones that anthropomorphise animals..'little Sam couldn't understand why his family didn't come back for him...' No, he didn't, because he's a DOG! He might have thought that he was hungry, or felt that his pack had abandoned him but he certainly didn't sit and cry about his lost family.

I just hate seeing them, when my little dog is pressed up against me and I have to watch that poor greyhound with her muzzle taped shut again. It makes me liable to give my dog unwise treats.

Bushfires in Australia raised lots of money.

Aus Red Cross says it will keep $10m of funds raised for 'admin'.
RSPCA have distributed no funds to smaller charities (as they were meant to). So woman who saves 60 koalas fund medicine and equipment from her own pocket...repeat for all small grass roots animal charities.

I will give to an individual or a local grassroots organisation in future rather than huge fundraisers. I will never ever donate to Red Cross or RSPCA again.

I get quite annoyed with these distressing adverts shown during children's programmes and they show them over and over again.

@newnameforthis7

So you're saying that charities shouldn't exist?

After all the adverse publicity about these charity factories targetting older people and taking a huge percentage I would have expected a reduction in their TV presence but it seems to have been racked up again. I have less of a problem with charities having well paid staff who generate income than I have with the boiler room tactics of these charity factories.

No one needs to get paid 200 k to be here ceo of a charity . What a joke .Loads of people down the bottom earning a pittance . My friend works at a charity earning min wage. Barely any time with his wife and child . Weekend away. Sometimes holidays away won’t. Sometimes the job is dangerous . Oh and he’s looking for a better job .

I hate charity adverts too. Would happily give if it actually went to the right places. It’s been shown quite a few times it doesn’t .

Top tip: if you're watching a commercial channel live then muting ads really helps. This is what I always do. Less hassle than changing channels and pretty much means the ads become meaningless images that don't register.
