Boob trouble

Fatasfook · 26/01/2019 00:41

Every month in the 10 days before I start my period my boobs turn into solid balls of agony. I’m early 40’s and this is a fairly recent phenomenon. Is there any way I can alleviate the pain? Is there something I can do to stop this from happening? It makes me miserable, bad tempered and fragile.

That sounds awful Sad I would go and see your GP and see if there's anything they can do.

I have been and she didn’t offer any advice , only that it sometimes happens to women my age.

I had that. Upping fruit and veg intake helped. Also took mega dose of evening primrose oil.
Sympathies it is horrible Flowers

I have experienced this most of my life and evening primrose really works for me. I take 5000mg high strength capsules every day. It takes a while to start working. Wearing a sports bra is also very helpful and is recommended by doctors for this type of breast pain.

GobblersKnob · 26/01/2019 09:48

Yes to evening primrose oil. Also I live in bras all the time through the second half of my cycle, day and night, I find the slight compression helps a lot.

The progesterone only pill can help too. I tried two different types, sorted the boob-pain but other side effects made it not worthwhile for me.

Evening primrose oil and my consultant told me starflower oil is even better. I've not tried it yet. He also gave me a leaflet which said fatty meat, dairy and caffeine can exacerbate cyclical breast pain.

Fatasfook · 26/01/2019 10:10

Thank you, I will get some evening primrose, I’ve cut dairy and caffeine and have upped my veg intake already. I hope it alleviates soon. It’s truly horrible.

I saw my GP after a year of utter agony every month. I was practically in tears as hugging my DC, sex, any form of jumpy exercise was just out the window for up to 10 days before my period. I really empathise!

As others, she suggested evening primrose oil and starflower oil (I found both easily at Sainsbury’s). She said some women are lucky and it works right away, while it can take up to 3 months of taking it daily. I was lucky and it did start working by my next pre-period time.

Her next suggestion was going to be going back on the pill.

Yes def starflower or evening primrose oil. The higher the gla the better. Just beware they can give you a bit of an upset stomach to start with but it does wear off.

RandomMess · 26/01/2019 10:22

Welcome to my life only I've always suffered!

It's horrid and there aren't any things that help all that much!!

I had the same problem. Evening primrose oil improved it enormously.
