So my bank rejected my DD for my TV licence, yesterday....Eh no, it is a scam...

I received an email today saying that the bank had not honoured my DD for the TV licence.

Nice try, but it goes out on the 2nd not the 25th.

This appears to be the latest scam.

Snap! I got it too. Didn't the email look convincing though?! It didn't even have a nonsense reply email address, like they usually do. I actually phoned my bank to check, and they obviously confirmed that it wasn't true.

NeverTwerkNaked · 25/01/2019 18:30

Yep I got this email too! If you click on the email address of any email like this you can see it’s origin and it’s normally pretty obvious whether it is dodgy.

GrandmaJane · 25/01/2019 18:30

They tried me two days before Christmas. I ignored.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 25/01/2019 18:33

I have been getting scam emails for months saying unfortunately my automatic renewal for tv licence couldn't be done! It was convincing but luckily I noticed

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/01/2019 18:34

Yep, me too. Not even the email address I use for TV Licensing.

OscarWildesGreenCarnation · 25/01/2019 18:37

The new thing apparently is scam texts - I got a TV licence one, an Argos one (saying I'd won a prize) and a Paypal one all in two days. Fuckers. Had to warn DM as she's more likely to click on the links.

Justyou · 25/01/2019 18:40

I’ve had at least 4 a week for over 2 months, nearly convinced on 1st one.
I ve informed tv licensing and they acknowledged the scam but it’s constant from different email addresses

tor8181 · 25/01/2019 18:41

there is one going around about talk talk too,i got it yesterday

had a email saying my bill of £40 hasnt been payed this month so my internet and house number have been disconnected and i need to ring this number to pay to reactivate my account with in 7 days or it will be deactivated permanently and i will be in default of a 3 year contract and will be liable then for court costs

yeah right
1 im not with talk talk and never have been
2 i dont have a house phone number
3 it was sent to the email address i use only for home ed stuff and home ed is actually included in the email address

i do think how can people really fall for this its obvious fake but according to google thousand do

runoutofnamechanges · 25/01/2019 18:41

I keep getting the TV licence one. I don't even have a TV!

I got a proper old fashioned misspelled Nigerian banking scam one today. I haven't had one of those for years. I felt quite nostalgic...

Pretendingtobeapsychokiller · 25/01/2019 20:08

At least it's an obvious scam, I guess.
I'm receiving them daily. The 'TV Licensing' logo on the upper left is a terrible effort, and the wording is messy.
I'm glad the people are generally illiterate.

Those are the things that vulnerable people tend to fall for. It makes me livid!

Huntawaymama · 25/01/2019 20:10

I've been getting loads of tv licence ones. So annoying

Karwomannghia · 25/01/2019 20:11

I’ve had so many of these is started to think maybe it is real as they’re very persistent and It’s the one bill my dh does! 😂

RoseDog · 25/01/2019 20:16

My dp keeps getting bombarded with tv licence emails, the tv licence is about the only thing in my name only, I set it up 16 years ago and they would only allow one name on it. I have never had an email!

Karwomannghia · 25/01/2019 20:22

Are you my dh Rosedog?

mindutopia · 25/01/2019 20:29

Oh, this appears to be the benefit of not paying for tv license! Not received one of these.

To clarify, I refuse to pay it on the grounds that the council refuses to recognise our house exists. Except for council tax. They expect that to be paid! But bin men won’t collect our rubbish (we have to drag it 1/4 mile to the neighbours). Postman won’t deliver our post (it goes to our landlords house and we have to go collect it from there). Parcels go missing because no one recognises our address, including the tv license people. So I got annoyed and gave up trying to pay them...four years later, here we are. They’ve never bothered us. So guess this is one advantage!

imip · 25/01/2019 20:32

I’ve had many, but today got my most ‘real’ looking one. I googled tv license phising and they have a great guide to picking out fakes. Showed it to dd12 who is doing this currently at school.

I could see how people could be fooled - it preys in the more vulnerable. My tv license is about due now.

mineofuselessinformation · 25/01/2019 20:33

I had an 'apple' one yesterday...

gunnergirl · 25/01/2019 20:34

I've had a few last few days but as I don't need a tv license and have an official notice from them I just deleted and blocked them

Karwomannghia · 25/01/2019 20:36

Mindutopia it’s a scam and bears no relation to whether you have a tv licence or not. You just need an email address.

RiojaHaze · 25/01/2019 20:36

I've just had a car tax one, the link for which went to a website that looked exactly like the real gov.uk one.

It said that my dd hadn't gone through and I had to pay £99 otherwise I'd be fined £1000.

Luckily I clicked on other links on the page which all went to dead ends and checked the URL which was dodgy but I can imagine a lot of people believing it as it looked so convincing.

TheNoodlesIncident · 25/01/2019 20:57

My MIL actually got rid of the internet as she was starting to get a few phising emails. Generally if there's anything she's unsure about she rings DH and mithers him until he sorts it out, but it got too much for her to cope with and she felt having the internet wasn't worth the stress. The first one she got, she rang DH, he told her it's an attempt to scam her and she went mental. She wanted to ring the police number to report it (101 I assume, not 999).

Previously she has gone ballistic at organisations wanting her National Insurance number - not dodgy types, just mortgage companies/banks, that sort of thing - so I guess she wouldn't be happy at just deleting it and getting on with life.

AviatorShades · 26/01/2019 10:42

I'm getting loads too atm. My last real authentic paper one was valid until end September 2017, so don't think this is authentic cos of the month difference but I'll be doing a check later to be sure.

Or just wait til they come round to check up on me and pay them then?

Dunno, just dunnoConfused
