Invoices paying them!

Got invoice for a boiler service
Guy said pay within 7 days!
Day after called 3 times and sent 5 text messages - asking when will I be paying?

Had service done Wednesday so I have until Tuesday to pay?

Why can't you just pay now?

Sallygoroundthemoon · 25/01/2019 13:05

Just pay the invoice. Yes it said 7 days but the guy has done the work so I'd just pay it rather than waiting until the last minute. That said he is being unreasonable chasing when it says 7 days.

Celebelly · 25/01/2019 13:08

Yeah that's pretty unprofessional. If he actually needs/wants to be paid within 48 hours then he needs to change his terms to say that. I run my own business and wouldn't dream of harassing people with messages way before an invoice is actually due.

LittleMissWeary · 25/01/2019 13:09

He may pass the debt to his solicitor if it hasn't been paid within 7 days.

Sounds like a small sole trader. He's done the work, you pay ASAP.

If you think he's chasing you too soon or too aggressively use someone else in future.

CantWaitToRetire · 25/01/2019 13:10

What do the terms say on the invoice? If it is written down that payment terms are 7 days, then you legally don't have to had over the money straight away. That said, if you have the money, is there any point in waiting it out?

showgirl · 25/01/2019 13:10

Why wouldn't you pay immediately?

Housingcraze · 25/01/2019 13:13

Issue I got is he fitted bathroom and I had 4 different leaks afterwards?
And I paid him straight away after that and no apology for the shoddy workmanship or wages I lost?
And damage which my decorator corrected for them?

I feel I should withhold the £90.00
Until final day!

He did correct the leaks but took days to do this, lost rental income!
No goodwill gesture whatsoever!
My friend who runs business eg decorating said I’d she split paint on carpet she paid to replace it or clean it! Ridiculous

My pay day is next Monday so if I had your bill to pay and was a bit short until then I would pay when it was due and not before.

On the other hand if you can pay now it would be nice to - as others have said he's probably a sole trader and might well be short himself. Though if that's the case he should explain rather than harassing you!

veggiepigsinpastryblankets · 25/01/2019 13:15

I cross posted, sorry!

If that's the case I'd probably hold on to the money as long as possible in case any more leaks appear!

GertrudeWilloughby · 25/01/2019 13:15

So if he's already bodged one job for you why call him back for another? Confused

Housingcraze · 25/01/2019 13:17

Basically spoke to check a trace and they said get him in to do boiler so if they’re are issues, he cannot blame another plumber for not servicing boiler properly?

I thought this was random!

OP posts:
Housingcraze · 25/01/2019 13:17

** check a trade!

OP posts:
Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 25/01/2019 15:20

How much rental income have you lost? When were the tenants due to move in and when did they move in?
How much is he charging to service a boiler of you are withholding 90 quid.
Have you replied to texts or answered his calls?

Housingcraze · 25/01/2019 15:30

property was supposed to go 5th January- there are tenants waiting for property’s like mine,
I said invoice said 7 days so that will be Tuesday!

OP posts:
Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 25/01/2019 15:34

So when was the bathroom fitted?
If you've only just arranged servicing boiler this week you weren't ready for the 5th either.

Housingcraze · 25/01/2019 15:35

I would of been ready, boiler service would of been done if didn’t have issues with leaks, bathroom finalised 24th Dec

OP posts:
Inlawpox · 25/01/2019 15:48

So bathroom was ready on the 24th and it's now the 25th of the following month and you are blaming a few days delay for being 20 days behind, you should have booked the boiler service for when bathroom was getting fitted. You be had a month to sort it so why didn't you

Housingcraze · 25/01/2019 15:57

The leaks occurred from 28th Dec and they took ages to dry out then to decorate and damp proof! As damp comes through no matter how many times you paint it?

So we had to use the appliances to make sure the leak was secure, then it happened again?

OP posts:
Merryoldgoat · 25/01/2019 16:01

A) if he said pay within 7 days he’s being unreasonable chasing you and you are not unreasonable to pay him according to his terms.

B) You’re foolish to use him after he botched your work. Utterly ridiculous. Checkatrade are literally nothing to do with this,

InSightMars · 25/01/2019 16:16

Invoice says 7 days so OP has 7 days to pay. If he has cashflow problems then he needs to change his terms to payment on completion or in advance. She's not refusing to pay at all she's withholding payment until the due date per the agreed terms. We have customers with net 60 terms (we offer discounts if they pay within 10 and add penalties if they go past due) they usually pay earlier but we don't start chasing them until day 61 anything else is unprofessional.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 25/01/2019 16:18

I give up, the bathroom wasn't finished on the 24th then but even if it was finished then I'm not sure where you'd have found a Decent plumber to service a boiler before the 5th, most don't work over Christmas and New year except for emergencies
Honestly if you are going to rent houses out you need to have trusted tradesmen and not rely on check a trade, you do realise that they are only with check a trade because the pay to be, a quality tradesman doesn't need check a trade he will be bust through word of mouth
I would look at your business plan if I were you and find yourself some decent contacts
