AIBU to dislike magicians?

There is no such thing as magic. Magicians just do stuff that they know how to do and refuse to tell anybody how to do it.

If I knew how to set the central heating but nobody else in the house did, I would tell them. I wouldn't get all fucking mystical about it, put on a funny hat, get a lady in sparkly swimming costume to stand next to me, refuse to tell anybody else how to do it and claim I was a central heating magician. That is exactly how magicians operate when they pretend to pull a playing card out somebody's anus or whatever! It's annoying and rude.

They should do the trick, explain how it was done, apologise, then go home.

I don't object to them in principle, behind closed doors etc etc but I HATE when they do the tableside thing at events and interrupt interesting conversations to make us watch them chuck a few playing cards around. Just go away!

I’ve only seen magicians twice in my life (don’t watch them on tv) & I thought they were great; the first one did the tiger in a cage trick & I was really, really impressed. The second was a close up show with a talk about how she had got into magic & doing some tricks, I thought it was very clever & there was nothing ‘cheesy’ or ‘showing off’ about her.

Jesus who called the fun police?

I was just asking if I was unreasonable and it turns out I'm not. I'm not seeking to ban it yet , but I do think they should be aware that most decent moral people don't approve of them.

I'll start different threads about re-enactors, bagpipeophiles, and ventriloquists.

I can't bear them either. I just don't get why it would be entertaining. My husband loves them though.

They're boring and creepy. I'm sure most Incels are magicians

GlitterStick · 25/01/2019 20:04

There is no such thing as magic.

Is that you, Vernon Dursley? Did you go purple as you typed that?!

Curlygirly · 25/01/2019 20:15

Can't stand ' function' magicians. Happy with my drink and canapes then I'm on edge as soon as I spot a magician working the room. Dh thinks it's hilarious that it makes me sweat!

TheNoodlesIncident · 25/01/2019 21:04

Mime artists are creepy too.

I didn't mind Paul Daniels until he wanted to put all cheese in Room 101. Even Paul Merton looked shocked, as well he might.

VanillaLatteAndCake · 25/01/2019 21:15

Yes! Hate magicians! God, I feel so free saying that! DP LOVES magicians so on occasion (BGT etc) I am forced to watch them but I cannot bear them at all. IT'S NOT MAGIC!!
