AIBU to dislike magicians?

There is no such thing as magic. Magicians just do stuff that they know how to do and refuse to tell anybody how to do it.

If I knew how to set the central heating but nobody else in the house did, I would tell them. I wouldn't get all fucking mystical about it, put on a funny hat, get a lady in sparkly swimming costume to stand next to me, refuse to tell anybody else how to do it and claim I was a central heating magician. That is exactly how magicians operate when they pretend to pull a playing card out somebody's anus or whatever! It's annoying and rude.

They should do the trick, explain how it was done, apologise, then go home.

Agree. Definite air of smuggery

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2019 21:38

I just find it all so boring.

When one appears on BGT my heart sinks.

MiniCooperLover · 24/01/2019 21:39

They are my 'clown' phobia ... if I'm ever near one I walk off (politely) but will always try to avoid them

Mysterian · 24/01/2019 21:40

Smug. Exactly.

"I've got a secret! Nah nah nah! Not telling!"

Fuck off magicians!

Don't they all have to be members of the Magic Circle and promise not to tell anyone how it's done or something?
All very secret society.

Dizzywizz · 24/01/2019 21:42

I get sucked in when I watch it, but then I just think what was the point? Everyone knows it’s not actual magic

ShatnersBassoon · 24/01/2019 21:42

Even The Great Suprendo? Shock

I like seeing tricks I can't understand.

Mysterian · 24/01/2019 21:43

And we all know why escapologists get into it. Hmm

Guineapiglet345 · 24/01/2019 21:43

I think some can be really really good but the amateur ones are usually crap.

Mysterian · 24/01/2019 21:45

I also like seeing things I can't understand. Then I like to be told how it works so I then understand it.

at a family wedding reception they had a magician to entertain the guests. he came to me with a card trick. he was ridiculously smarmy and wouldn’t leave me alone. i stopped engaging in his trick, but this seemed to encouage him more. why do magicians seem to adopt a creepy, slimy persona? calm down mate, your just a wanker in a waistcoat.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/01/2019 21:47

Ah, you need a smug know-it-all husband to gleefully explain the trick to you when he can no longer hold it in.

LordNibbler · 24/01/2019 21:48

I live with one, and confirm they are all arseholes. Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 24/01/2019 21:51

I think my husband would have become a magician if traditional employment had been unavailable. He loves a waistcoat and knowing things that other people don't, FFS.

Winterfellismyhome · 24/01/2019 21:51

I thought it was just me! People look at me like I'm mad when i say i dont like magicians. I dont like the way an immediate reaction is needed, it makes me so uncomfortable

easyandy101 · 24/01/2019 21:51

I hate them, deceptive and untrustworthy

One of my suppliers once outed himself as a magician and I asked why he told me because now I find him suspicious

Oddcat · 24/01/2019 21:52

I agree , fuck off with the stupid prancing about when you cover a cage with a sheet, we know (after more prancing about) that a woman/ tiger / elephant/ budgie will appear when you whisk the sheet off.

Ilovechristmaslights · 24/01/2019 21:54

I hate them too, it’s nice to meet others that do too - generally I just get the Hmm look...

LadySlipper · 24/01/2019 21:55

YANBU. I thought was the only one! The rest of the people in my house love them; I have to leave the room if one of those rediculous 'entertainers' is on tv.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2019 21:56

When they produce a pack of cards I just don't care enough to watch or want or know. Zzzz.

DoJo · 24/01/2019 21:57

Do Penn and Teller get a pass?

VittysCardigan · 24/01/2019 21:58

Totally agree but i am deffo putting on a cape next time i top up the pressure on the boiler Grin

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2019 21:58

Nooo Penn& Teller are stomach churning as well as zzzzz.

Mysterian · 24/01/2019 21:59

Penn and Teller tell some secrets, but they're still magicians, and encourage other magicians.
