Right. Here goes. What a numpty.

I’ve just made rice Krispy cakes for school sale tomorrow. I the mixing bowl I put rice Krispy (cheapy ones, I’m not mad!) and golden syrup and... well....nothing. That’s it. I mean there were a few decorative sprinkles but nothing else.

Made about an hr ago. It’s just occurred to me that’s not the normal recipe....melt butter & syrup together then mix in Krispies.... I normally make chocolate ones but wants the kids to see the sprinkles so did plain. Just didn’t think to check. In I poured and mixed and scooped into cases.

They aren’t going to fucking set are they? And even if they did are they going to taste disgusting.

Help me to rectify my awful kitchen antics.

Melt some chocolate, mix it in andthey should be fine.

Ladyoftheloch · 24/01/2019 20:42

Not sure there’s any fixing that! Do you have the means to start again?

You could try very gently warming it to melt it down again but not sure that will work.

Houseworkavoider · 24/01/2019 20:47

I second warming up a bit and add butter and chocolate.

Noopey · 24/01/2019 20:47

I have no chocolate (as I’ve eaten it all) and I’m now out of sprinkles having merrily poured the little shitebags all over the cakes.

Fuckety bugger.

Might do abs you say and melt some butter and mix is all together.

Rabbitjam · 24/01/2019 20:48

Or add a load of marshmallows and gently heat it all until they melt and mix in

DustyMcDustbuster · 24/01/2019 20:48

Pass them to me, I’ll enjoy them. pats belly

TyneTeas · 24/01/2019 20:51

Can you roll spoonfuls of them in eg oats or more crispiest?

MarthaHanson · 24/01/2019 20:57

I love ‘little shitebags’Grin

Fusioluxe · 24/01/2019 21:01

Is there a garage open near you with chocolate?

Have a taste. If they are ok but gloopy, you need to find something that will set them or set around them. As a pp suggested, roll into balls and dip in chocolate.

Noopey · 24/01/2019 21:09

Well. I’ve now mixed it all in to melted butter. Shovelled them all back in the original cases and they look a mess.

Did however find 3 boxes of mini smarties to Chuck sprinkle over the top so they look slightly appealing. Fingers crossed the buggers actually set.

Thank you for helping me in my hour of need. I’m off to find some cider (I know mn is a gin swigging community but I can’t stand the stuff). Next sale I’m donating kitkats. They will definitely sell.

We need a photo!

pickingdaisies · 24/01/2019 21:12

I have nothing to add that will help, but lord girl, you've made me laugh 😁

Noopey · 24/01/2019 21:12

Dusty will post you whatever doesn’t sell. Not sure they’ll survive the journey. Also not sure the journey will actually make them any worse.

Messing up Krispy cakes??. Seriously. I’m an idiot.

You can't stand gin?! Report to MNHQ for your membership to be stripped off you immediately Grin

I'm so glad my days of having to do stuff for school are over

Noopey · 24/01/2019 21:17

BIWI

I know. hangs head in shame.

Please let me say 🙏🙏🙏 I’ll just stand quietly at the back, nodding and smiling, won’t make a noise. You won’t notice I’m here.

Fusioluxe

Good lord no. If anyone from the school are reading this and spot them tomorrow I’ll never live it down.

The shame of it all.

Next time weigh out equal quantities of Krispies, marshmallows, butter and toffees. Heat to melt the butter, toffee and marshmallow then mix in Krispies.

Taste like rice krispies squares - very moreish!

Yabbers · 24/01/2019 21:23

Urgh, cheap krispies go soft in Krispy cakes. Same with cheap cornflakes.

mumsastudent · 24/01/2019 21:26

melt & mix golden syrup marg or/butter & cocoa powder & sultanas (throw) mix with rice crispies or cornflakes

FevertreeLight · 24/01/2019 21:28

Next time weigh out equal quantities of Krispies, marshmallows, butter and toffees. Heat to melt the butter, toffee and marshmallow then mix in Krispies.

Or just stick £5 in an envelope. Much easier and more appreciated.

StoppinBy · 24/01/2019 21:28

whoops Grin RKT are usually a mix of Marshmallow, butter and rice bubbles here, no syrup at all. Did you end up using them? How did they hold up?

SaltedIceCream · 24/01/2019 21:31

This is why I buy cakes to give to the cake sale

Grin
Pythonesque · 24/01/2019 22:14

Well they don't work properly with butter anyhow - the way to make them actually set is with copha (coconut oil). When mine were little I never could find any, and have been horrified recently now coconut oil seems to have become a "thing", how much it is being sold for! (grew up in Australia)

Hope they look fine in the morning :)

Noopey · 25/01/2019 10:51

Had to do an SOS (save our sodding cakes) run to the shop this morning to get marshmallows.

Why?? Why would anyone make marshmallows crispies?? What a faff. What a palaver. What a gooey mess. Next time in sticking to melting chocolate in the microwave. Adding the cereal. No effing sprinkles.

They look awful (from an adult’s POV) but I’m sure the kids will love the look of overly sugared, pink rice crispy cakes with smarties attached.

If Friday cake sales sold Wine Gin 🍻 and pre-made kids dinners I’m sure they’d make a fecking fortune.

Thanks for the help all. #neveragain.

MrsJakeLovell · 25/01/2019 21:51

All the people who say 'they won't set with butter' or 'never again' with marshmallows have never tried my recipe.

I promise it is worth it - it's not messy when you do it all in one pan, they do 'set' and they are like crack! One taste and you will be hooked!

Hope your sale went well though!
