To think it’s the implant causing the bleeding.

Not sure where else to put this tbh, feel a bit silly posting it here but

I have the implant in, I’ve had it since having my son in 2017. Since I finished breastfeeding my periods have come back, I expected this, but since I’ve stopped breastfeeding I’m bleeding constantly. My periods are heavy (which has always been the case) but I’m also bleeding between periods, it’s lighter, sometimes enough to fill a liner sometimes not but it’s not stopped.

I stopped breastfeeding 3 months ago. It’s drivig me crazy. I thought it was just regulating in the beginning by now I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the implant.

I’m going to see my gp but until then I’ve tried googling it and I’ve not been able to see if anyone has had anything similar.

Anyone any experience with this?

Implant in the arm, or an IUD?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 24/01/2019 16:59

Yep. It's a well known anecdotal side effect of the Implanon/Nexplanon. I had that too. Had it taken out in the end as I was constantly bleeding.

Houseonahill · 24/01/2019 17:07

It is a side of the implant but please get it checked out by a GP as although very unlikely it can also be a sign of something more sinister

Qcng · 24/01/2019 17:09

Yes it's being caused by your implant. Implanon did this to me so I got it removed.

WinterBluez · 24/01/2019 17:11

My mom had that problem, pretty much all the time, sometimes heavy and sometimes just spotting. She got fed up with it and had it taken out in the end.

schoolsoutforever · 24/01/2019 17:13

Yes, this was why I had it taken out. Almost constant light bleeding. It didn't feel right to me. I then went on to the patch which was much better but probably more costly so I did have to argue my case with my GP.

Girlonatubetrain2 · 24/01/2019 17:15

Yes, also bled lightly constantly for 5 months after having the implant - ended up having to argue to get it removed as 6 months settling were not completed! Was absolutely fed up! No regrets

Dottysmum18 · 24/01/2019 17:18

With the implant 33% will have regular periods 33% will have no periods and 33% will have v.heavy or constant bleeding
Im in the 33% who have no periods at all
(I realise it adds to 99% put the remaning 1% where u like)Grin

Homemadearmy · 24/01/2019 17:23

I had constant bleeding with the implant very similar to yours a mix of light and heavy. I had it taken out after 6 months as I had had enough. I felt drained and my nails broke and split all the time

Freebirdflyin · 24/01/2019 17:51

I thought it might be, I’m seeing my doctor to rule anything else out, but I’m glad It seems it is probably the cause. It’s driving me mad. I’ll be getting it out.

Thanks so much for your replies! :)

Mine caused constant bleeding after being replaced so had it taken out. Good luck!
