Hi
My 13yr old son refuses to wear a vest or jumper to school. Should I make him, by taking away privileges or just let him get in with it?

I'd let him make his own choice. Also, I didn't think teenagers wore vests.

let him get on with it. Ive given up with mine.

DS hasn't worn a vest since he was in infants. And you can't force him to wear one, or a jumper, if he doesn't want to.

Not that either of mine would have agreed to wear a vest past the age of 7

I remember it not being cool when I was a teenager to wear a coat. I would let him get cold at 13 it's up to him in a way. He'll soon learn.

If he’s got a good winter jacket I would just leave him to it. Schools are heated!

Why would he need to wear a vest? He must just be young and healthy with good circulation. Let him crack on.

Have you suggested a T-shirt under his shirt? That's a bit more normal for that age group than a vest. Does he have a clothes budget to pick out his own jumpers?

A white T-shirt is a good compromise if the school permits. A lot of the girls did this in secondary (myself included) to stop boys commenting on our bras...

Young people don't feel the cold as much as adults. There is no way you can make him wear a vest, that would be social suicide!

Does the school require a jumper? If no, then it’s his prerogative, if yes then I’m surprised he hasn’t had the school on his/your case about it.

Unless his name is Onslo yabu to make him wear a vest.
