Parcel delivery - handed me new item covered in mud

Afternoon all

Had my sports direct delivery of my new exercise equipment out of my Christmas money.
As I opened the door she handed me my new kettlebell covered in mud and a bashed up box, she said sorry the box is rubbish Hmm
I know delivery drivers can have a long day and don’t want to faff around door to door, but to hand me my parcel full of mud and no attempt to clean it up.
It won’t take long for me to do it, i was just totally miffed when she handed me it.
I pay the delivery fee to have my item delivered in its box and still new condition, not bought to me after being rolled around on the road.

Aibu to be slightly annoyed

You know you're not being unreasonable.

kitkatsky · 24/01/2019 13:57

You need to complain to sports direct about their pAckaging. The couriers have a very short window to deliver your package and if they are late delivering they lose points and performance related bonuses

R3b3kah · 24/01/2019 13:58

She just didn’t seem bothered in the slightest, rather akward grabbing my item from her muddy hands

Take a photo and complain to sport direct.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 24/01/2019 15:50

Perhaps it was covered in mud when she was given it to deliver?

Bluelady · 24/01/2019 15:55

At least she said sorry, which is more than our delivery drivers would do. It's not her fault in any case.

SilverDragonfly1 · 24/01/2019 16:10

To be fair, she was probably quite annoyed at ending up with muddy hands because of a poorly packaged and presumably heavyish parcel. It's def SD you want to be complaining to.

gamerchick · 24/01/2019 16:11

Were the contents covered in mud?

R3b3kah · 24/01/2019 16:17

Maybe it’s just me who wouldn’t hand someone a soaking muddy item.

The side of the box was ripped so it hadn’t fell out the bottom, if it was in a plastic wrapper that’s okay but it wasn’t. She handed me my muddy kettlebell and the muddy wrapper it was in.

She may have been annoyed at muddy hands, but I’m annoyed I paid £15 for the item and £5 postage for it to turn up like that

I would take a photo of it and write what happened, post it in social media and tag both sports direct and the courier company in it...I bet once you do that and make it public you will soon get apologies, and some form of compensation...

I would be annoyed too if I bought something and it arrived covered in mud,

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 24/01/2019 16:54

Sports Direct do not give one single shiny shite about their customers so you are wasting your time. If the item itself is wipeable and useable, let the rest go. Seriously.

bridgetreilly · 24/01/2019 17:03

I'm not sure what you expected the courier to do. Take it home and wash it for you? Return it to the depot?

Wouldn't you rather have the item which, as you say, didn't take long to clean up?

Mitsuki · 24/01/2019 17:07

Just send an email privately OP, I can't stand all this "Name and shame" stuff on social media for the tiniest of issues to get compensation.

Send them an email and photo privately to get to the bottom of it. They will sort it for you I'm sure.

R3b3kah · 24/01/2019 17:08

I have emailed both with photos, I haven’t commented on their actual page

Course it’s wipeable, but I didn’t pay for an item to come to me wet and covered in mud.
Upon closer inspection it is damaged

I would be pissed off about it turning up damaged. The mud you can wipe off but I expect my items to turn up intact! Definitely complain.

easyandy101 · 24/01/2019 17:25

You could have just refused it
