AIBU to be impressed by this poster at my GP practice? The reference to organic food made me laugh.

Oh I REALLY love that.

It isn't going to go down well on here though!

QueenAnneBoleyn · 24/01/2019 13:02

YANBU - it gets the point across.

QueenofmyPrinces · 24/01/2019 13:03

Ita too small on my screen to read Sad

JasperKarat · 24/01/2019 13:06

This is doing the rounds on social media at the moment, it makes a good point. Won't convince the anti-vacc brigade though

Storminateacup1 · 24/01/2019 13:08

I hope all GP surgeries do the same.

It’s wonderful!

ChocolateStash · 24/01/2019 13:10

I doubt the practice put it there (there's no branding or letterhead). It's more likely placed there by a member of the public. Someone wants to get their point across. Ask to have it removed if you find it offensive. Most people have their minds made up. That poster won't make much difference to them.

herdthemup · 24/01/2019 13:11

Haha, yes I realise that, which I admit is what made me want to post it! We’re all entitled to our opinion though eh, and I strongly agree with it.
To be honest I was so surprised to read it, I was even wondering if a member of the public has put it up, and the surgery staff haven’t noticed yet.
Someone told me the surgery will get extra money for hitting a very high % target for kids registered being vaccinated though.

Cross post chocolatestash. It definitely doesn’t offend me though.

herdthemup · 24/01/2019 13:13

It’s not unusual to see a poster with no letter on at my surgery, but I agree it could be a patient that’s put it up.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 24/01/2019 13:16

Yeah but big pharma! I don't need vaccines, I have an immune system! And other such nonsense.

It won't persuade the crazy brigade, but I like it.

kateluvscats · 24/01/2019 13:16

Brilliant!!!!! Top marks for whoever put that up!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2019 13:17

Ask to have it removed if you find it offensive.

Hopefully if anyone does, they'll have the concept of 'evidence based medicine' clearly explained to them.

Let's see now, which is more important to medical professionals :

  1. avoiding giving 'offence' to people who've 'made their minds up' or
  2. protecting children from preventable diseases

Exactly Errol!!

I’ve read that recently somewhere too and I’m pretty sure it was our Drs surgery so could actually be ‘official’ or at least some health professionals have decided it needs saying.

pigsDOfly · 24/01/2019 13:24

There's a lot of notices in my doctors' waiting room that have no headings on them and look very similar to that one.

However, that is way too political and potentially offensive to have been put up by staff, I would imagine.

Although it does make a very valid point I think it would have been better to have left off the bit about the organic food, as that really is the only part of it that anyone could possibly take offense at.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 24/01/2019 13:24

Woah, I love it!!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2019 13:27

'Political'? Confused

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 24/01/2019 13:32

How is it "political"? It's just science! Confused

herdthemup · 24/01/2019 13:34

I think anyone who would be offended by that are far too sensitive. I can definitely imagine the senior partner wanting to put this up. He’s very straight talking, and nearing retirement, so has probably started running out of patience with idiots who are happy to put their children’s health at risk. I guess something like this would need the agreement of the other partners and the practice manager as well though, but maybe not?

OP posts:
OddBoots · 24/01/2019 13:35

It's no more political than signs warning you of the dangers of not putting your child's seat belt on.

Andro · 24/01/2019 13:36

I'll tell my DD that I watched her go into anaphylactic shock and cardiac arrest as a result of a vaccine and wasn't willing to take the chance again.

That poster will just make people who CAN'T safely vaccinate feel crap, it will have no effect on the people it's actually aimed at.

Guineapiglet345 · 24/01/2019 13:37

I love it, I doubt it will change any of the anti-Vaxer’s minds though.

OddBoots · 24/01/2019 13:39

Andro I really hope it would have at least some effect on those choosing not to vaccinate in order to protect children like yours who cannot vaccinate or don't have a protective immune response.

Oxytocindeficient · 24/01/2019 13:41

If the actual aim is to convince and reassure those not vaccinating to vaccinate, does anyone here actually think this would work? No, right? So the only point of it is to shame and polarise.

I’ve been saying this for some time. The whole way this issue is debated and discussed does absolutely nothing to try and get the non vaccinated, vaccinated. In fact the disrespectful attitudes makes the whole thing worse. Remember that most parents are honestly doing what they think is right. Most of this is about fear and confusion. Wouldn’t it be much better if we, as fellow parents, left it to medical professionals to respectfully engage with the concerns and work to reassure and convince them to vaccinate along with us? Because all I think when I look at this poster and these catty comments is that people are simply looking for a chance to ridicule and attack others. You may justify it by insisting it’s for the health of everyone but you’re still only making the situation worse.
