How often do you wash jeans? (How long do you wear them before chucking in wash)

So jeans are apparently not meant to be washed that often as they lose their fit, colour and quality. I assume this applies to all denim products. But apparently your supposed to wash them after 3 weeks of use ...
I mean, my DC wear jeans they might get 2days out of them before they go into the wash. Dp will dump his jeans on the laundry basket after wearing them a day (minimum of 3hours if he's worked) so I fold them and put away. Then myself (sorry may sound disgusting) but I chuck mine in the wash once they're dirty. So that could be as long as a week.

I’m like you - I wear mine until they’re actually dirty. The other suggestion I was given was “don’t wash them, just freeze them” Confused but those people clearly don’t live the same life as me, and actually get jeans DIRTY!

Seeline · 24/01/2019 09:23

I'm like you too.
Very little gets washed after one wear unless it is truly dirty, it's underwear, or something like the DCs school shirts which get very hard use in the 8 hours they are on. Similarly with DHs work shirts, which have to go on the London commute...

Snowydaysaregreat · 24/01/2019 09:24

Twice. Never had any issues with shape or color fade or anything..

BadlyAgedMemes · 24/01/2019 09:25

Every couple of weeks, usually, but I don't always wear them every day in that day. The most common reason my jeans go in the wash is that it's been wet and muddy out, and the dirty water level mark has crept up towards my knees. I've heard the "just freeze them" tip, too, but I don't want muddy jeans, even if they're very cold...

BadlyAgedMemes · 24/01/2019 09:25

^in that TIME

LettuceP · 24/01/2019 09:25

Used to wash them after every wear but I've stopped that. Now I wash them when they are dirty. I have a 10 month old so it's usually about a maximum of 3 wears before they get some sort of stain on them, I would go longer though if it wasn't for the stains Grin

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 24/01/2019 09:27

I tend to wash everything after one use... except jeans. Otherwise they soon go baggy. I can't stand baggy jeans. I spend a lot on them, so I want to keep them in good nick for as long as possible. Don't worry OP, it's fine to act like a 'slattern' when it comes to jeans ;)

ChodeofChodeHall · 24/01/2019 09:27

I don't wear knickers with mine, so, clean every time!

DurhamDurham · 24/01/2019 09:31

I'm not even sure Blush
Every thing else is washed after a wear, or two wears at bloody. Jeans probably get washed when they walk themselves over to the laundry basket. I'm not sure why it's different, it just is. I'd never wear a dress or pair of trousers for a week but I'll happily wear my black skinny jeans for that long.
I don't have young children at home with sticky fingers and I work in an office, I showed at least once a day so hopefully it isn't as grim as it sounds.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/01/2019 09:37

I wear skinny jeans so when they start to go a bit baggy, usually after 2 to 4 wears, although if I've had some on in the week and I'm either not doing much at the weekend, or going out in the country to get muddy, I'll usually keep the same ones going.

I couldn't not wear knickers with jeans, doesn't that chafe?

Nevergotobedfangry · 24/01/2019 11:15

@chodeofchodehall. Is that not uncomfortable wearing jeans without underwear?

And only items I don't wash after 1st use is jeans, jumpers, cardigans, sometimes t-shirts will get a 2day wear on occasion baby spew had gone on the Jumper lol

I don't wear knickers with mine, so, clean every time!

That sounds horrendous.

Birdie6 · 24/01/2019 11:40

I wash all my clothes every time I wear them. I've been wearing jeans all my life and they've never been damaged . they lose their fit, colour and quality. I assume this applies to all denim products nope I've never found that to be the case.

steff13 · 24/01/2019 11:41

I don't wear knickers with mine, so, clean every time!

That sounds very uncomfortable.

I wash mine after a couple of wears.

MissCalamity · 24/01/2019 11:41

Probably a week, that includes 3 full days and maybe thrown on again after work for the other 4 days. Shock

MissMisery · 24/01/2019 11:42

When they start to look grubby.
—or the fricking dog jumps up on them—

gamerwidow · 24/01/2019 11:43

I wear jeans most days but wash them after 2 wears usually otherwise they get too loose

ChodeofChodeHall · 24/01/2019 11:44

Is that not uncomfortable wearing jeans without underwear?

Nope, not that I have noticed!

elQuintoConyo · 24/01/2019 11:44

90 days.

If you don't wear pants with them, don't your pubes get stuck in the zip? Or poke out through the button holes? Plus sitting down on those uncomfortable double-seams

Ladyoftheloch · 24/01/2019 11:44

I wear mine for honestly weeks (not daily wear). I have a couple of pairs and I probably wash them each 6/7 times per year.

My view is that washing jeans is bad for the environment (microfibres) and bad for the jeans. Most stains can be sponged off. The longer they can go without washing the better!

I worked at a camp in America for a few summers in my youth teaching horse riding. Took the kids to a rodeo once and one of the cowboys told me he had worn his jeans every day for 43 years and had never washed them once. Not sure if that was true or not!

MissMisery · 24/01/2019 11:44

GAAH!! WHY do my strike- throughs always fail???! thrashes around

fieldfaresareback · 24/01/2019 11:45

I’ve worn a pair of jeans every day apart from weekends for 12 months in the past. It became a challenge I must admit as they get shiny and feel clammy on after a while. They were Japanese selvedge denim and I did the whole shrinking in the bath thing first and followed the recommendation of jeans connoisseurs. They did get some nice fading as a result, but by then my phone had worn the pocket out.
Now I just wear jeans after a first rinse until they start to feel nasty on, them they go in the wash, or before then if they get stuff on them. I always have blue hands as a result too.

RiverTam · 24/01/2019 11:46

every couple of weeks or so? Unless I actually spill something on them or get them muddy. DD doesn't wear jeans but I try to get her leggings/jogging bottoms to last about 3 days.

Dh washes his about once a year, he has Very Strong Views on this which I do not interfere with Grin.

Grimbles · 24/01/2019 11:48

I chuck mine in the tumble dryer on refresh mode with DHs work suits to get an extra couple of days wear out of them - put them in for 10mins or so with a damp cloth to freshen them up

DustyMcDustbuster · 24/01/2019 14:04

@field I remember everyone doing the Japanese selvedge jeans thing. I couldn’t bear how hard the fabric felt. It felt all wrong on me! Lol.

I’m feeling sorry for myself right now - none of my jeans fit as I’ve put on weight. This wouldn’t have happened if I’d worn Japanese selvedge jeans & never taken them off. I blame Lycra & wearing leggings too much. Oh. And eating all the cake. Sad
