Iceland still selling palm oil products.

Apparently, Iceland are still selling old stock that contains palm oil.

Is it me or do you have the feeling that, after their well received Christmas campaign, they only want to save the orangutan’s habitat if it doesn’t effect their profits?

not perfect but if their new stock coming in continues to not contain palm oil then each week they will get better at being a retiler thats better for the enviroment, and if all the retailers followed that can only be good,

What would you rather they do with the food? Just bin it?

I think selling what they have in stock already is fair enough as it would be a shocking level of waste to bin perfectly good food. They are also a business with rent and staff to pay so throwing stock isn’t really recommended

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/01/2019 15:48

They didn't commit to throwing away old stock. It's nothing to do with profits, that would cause a riot on its own. Our wasteful habits are impacting on the planet too...

Good points made. Thanks. 👍🏻

I think completely reasonable . Should they just go in the landfill?

At least they are the first to make the commitment

M3lon · 23/01/2019 22:41

hmm well I agree with the PP...as does the OP now...this could be the shortest AIBU ever!

I bet it won't be though...I bet there will be pages and pages and we will acquire a new 'cancel the cheque' phrase!

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 24/01/2019 01:02

They're doing more than all the other supermarkets, if they've already got the stock and just getting rid of it I think it's ok.

DeadGood · 24/01/2019 01:09

Always nice to see an OP take a “YABU” well! X

MrsTerryPratcett · 24/01/2019 01:11

Thanks for being R rather than U.

Throwing it away wouldn't save a single orangutan, but will stop crap going on a dump to create methane.

GemmeFatale · 24/01/2019 01:15

Throwing it away would be wasteful but they could maybe commit more fully and do their bit for charity by donating those products to local food banks.
