AIBU to feel resentment about a bridal shower

I'm a bridesmaid at a friend's wedding. The hen weekend is costing £250 per person (which I felt was too much but I gave up arguing because everyone else seemed to think it was fine). Bride is now having a 'bridal shower' too. Is it just me or is this just about asking your friends to buy you more presents on top of a wedding gift, wedding expenses, hen do costs etc?

Obviously I'm honoured to be a bridesmaid but I've been engaged a while myself and haven't even started planning my own wedding yet because of the money (I'm not broke, I just don't have spare cash for a wedding so need to do some serious saving).

When it comes, my own wedding plans will definitely not involve a bridal shower, expensive hen weekend or other strange demands! I sometimes think the world's gone mad.

I think she needs a cold shower.

VanillaSauce · 22/01/2019 18:31

Yanbu I would have declined from bridesmaid duties at that point.

What the fuck is a bridal shower?? That's the hen party the daft bint

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 22/01/2019 18:32

Just take a box of confetti!!

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2019 18:32

I would not go to a bridal shower in the UK. Just decline the invitation, OP.

krustykittens · 22/01/2019 18:32

YANBU, that is very, very grabby!

TheBigBangRocks · 22/01/2019 18:44

I wouldn't be going for anything, I avoid baby showers too for the exact same reason. Simply designed to extract gifts from what I've seen. Never do they suggest not to take gifts.

PinkGin24 · 22/01/2019 18:52

YABU. You could have declined bridesmaids duties, declined the weekend and declined the bridal shower.

Other people shouldn't have to lower their plans to suit your budget.

Cerulean60 · 22/01/2019 19:51

@PinkGin24 - I'm not asking/expecting anyone to lower their plans?
