Crowdfunding for the man who drove his giver into a hotel.

AIBU to think that this is ridiculous. Absolutely he should have been paid for the work he's done. But to recklessly drive a digger and smash up a building is a bit of an overreaction. I am amazed to see the support he's getting. And a crowdfunding page has been set up for him. Hmm it's his own fault if he's now made him self unemployable in the future.

The title should say digger!

The only reason he wasn’t paid was because of an HR error that effected others too it seemed. The money was in the accounts last night.

the crowdfunding is just odd!

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 14:13

Totally agree.

Pk37 · 22/01/2019 14:14

If people are paying into it then they’re bigger idiots than he is

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 14:15

A HR error, and they couldn't advance the wage?

MyFriendGoo5 · 22/01/2019 14:16

I don't believe this was a HR error OR the first time. Those were the actions of a man who'd been there before and had had enough.........then again, I know of self employed people relying on food banks at times and getting fined for delayed payments on bills because certain people in certain industries (( particularly the building industry )) think It's ok to pay people when they get round to it.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 22/01/2019 14:17

People will seemingly give to crowdfunding for any old nonsense scam, so it doesn’t surprise me.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/01/2019 14:17

Of all the horribly entitled 'justgiving/crowdfunding' he's WAY down my list.

I actually could imagine giving him a £1.

Cheby · 22/01/2019 14:18

I disagree actually. Subcontractors are messed around with pay really often. And a lot of people in Liverpool will have been hit by Carillion’s collapse when they were building the new hospital. People are still smarting from that. To me this looks like a guy who has had a bit of a breakdown and snapped. Of course this isn’t a reasonable reaction to £600, but if it’s the final straw...

I think people are raising money because they sympathise with the situation and have maybe experienced not being paid themselves.

Nothininmenoggin · 22/01/2019 14:19

What did people do before crowd funding came alongHmm

jimmyhill · 22/01/2019 14:22

The money was in the accounts last night.

I should imagine they'll never be late in paying again.

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/01/2019 14:22

I don't believe the HR error bullshit either MyFriendGoo5 and neither do I believe it's the first time. That was a man pushed over the edge.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2019 14:25

@Cheby there is no need for causing criminal damage though. He could have seriously injured someone.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 22/01/2019 14:26

Are people also missing that there where people in the building at the time!

However pissed off he was there is no justification for his actions

Mistlewoeandwhine · 22/01/2019 14:26

I always support the little person. He didn’t do this on a whim.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 14:27

He could have parked the digger at the front and refused to budge.

The hotel had just been finished.

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 14:29

He could have easily injured someone. Odd then that the first thing that happened when he got out of the digger was that a fellow co-worker shook his hand.

Nobody is saying it was a reasonable thing to do but clearly other people who were at risk had sympathy for his actions. Which tells you that the HR error wasn't as benign as the public relations officer would have you believe.

MyFriendGoo5 · 22/01/2019 14:32

How many people on here would work for free ?? For weeks or months at a time ?? How would you manage bills, feeding yourself and your families ??

I hope this man's actions bring about a change in the law because this happens constantly, often big companies hoarding the money in their accounts whilst the people doing the work go without. It's wrong and shouldn't be allowed to happen in 2019

BarbarianMum · 22/01/2019 14:34

I think crowdfunding for just about anything is ok - as long as you're open and above board about what it is for. No one has to give.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 14:34

How many people on here would drive a digger through a hotel risking others lives should that happen?

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 14:37

Very few, I'd imagine, given I can't think of one other incident like this. But given the support he is getting online, I suspect many must think about it daily.

BirthdayCakes · 22/01/2019 14:38

Those were the actions of a man who'd been there before and had had enough

Agree with this..

MyFriendGoo5 · 22/01/2019 14:39

Going by the fact the very people that had been put at risk shook his hands I'd say not enough.

Maybe if more people kicked up big stinks companies wouldn't be able to get away with it 🤔 Plus the damage caused was mainly cosmetic, and the other workers had the sense to stay outnof his way. ......he wasn't ever going to be able.to do real damage in a mini digger 🙄 I just saw a desperate man who'd had enough 🤷‍♀️

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/01/2019 14:39

Ignoring all the other stuff about rights and wrongs..

I think this is a clear example of what frustration can do to a person - this man did this because he was ignored, people failed to communicate with him, he was fobbed off over and over again...

I find behaviour super interesting and am really baffled when people can recognise that extreme examples like this are clearly, frustration and pushed to breaking point..

But then cannot see the same in their pet dogs, or their toddlers, who frequently (particularly toddlers) experience INTENSE frustration at their lack of control over their world and their inability to communicate and make themselves heard and understood.

Just a pondering. Move along now please. :)

OlennasWimple · 22/01/2019 14:40

I'd rather donate to a Crowdfunder to advance him his payment than a Crowdfunder for legal fees for criminal damage
