Crowdfunding for the man who drove his giver into a hotel.

AIBU to think that this is ridiculous. Absolutely he should have been paid for the work he's done. But to recklessly drive a digger and smash up a building is a bit of an overreaction. I am amazed to see the support he's getting. And a crowdfunding page has been set up for him. Hmm it's his own fault if he's now made him self unemployable in the future.

I always support the little person.

How about the little people he could have seriously hurt, or worse, who were in the building. I guess they don't count.

LizzieSiddal · 22/01/2019 14:41

He should not have done what he did, however who knows what he’d gone through whilst waiting for his money? Eviction/relationship issues/no Xmas etc etc.

I do have sympathy with him as we run our own company and work for large corporations. Because Dh has excellent relationships with those at the top, we never have to wait for money. We’ve knowother small companies are treated dreadfully.

Bluestitch · 22/01/2019 14:41

He could have killed someone. He may have also messed up things for other people who will be delayed in starting their new job at the hotel since it can no longer open yet. Small claims court is a more proportionate response than destroying buildings and risking lives.

Somewhereovertheroad · 22/01/2019 14:42

I would think that this is serious criminal damage and he will go to jail.

OrgyofSausages · 22/01/2019 14:42

Hmmm. 800,000 public sector workers in the US haven't been paid for about 8 weeks now because Donald Trump is a total wall obsessed bastard. I wish they'd bloody riot. And I'm not even kidding.

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 14:44

Small claims court is a more proportionate response than destroying buildings and risking lives.

Have you ever used the small claims court?

slashlover · 22/01/2019 14:45

What about all the hotel workers - receptionists, cleaners, waiters etc. Who wI'll now not start working on the day they thought?

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 14:46

I think he will go to jail too. I think he has to go to jail. Otherwise, if he doesn't, then we may see a huge increase in the rise of diggers for rent.

Bluestitch · 22/01/2019 14:47

Have you ever used the small claims court?

Once, a long time ago.

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 14:47

There is absolutely no excuse for going postal on a building full of people with a digger. Surely any overdue pay is going to be wiped out by the H&S fines and absence of any future employment?

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 14:49

So, do you think that someone who is pushed to the breaking point over £600 that he takes a digger to a building risking a jail sentence has a further £70 to start a case?

DGRossetti · 22/01/2019 14:49

If people want to work for free, the federal US is thataway ->

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 14:53

Where is he now?

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 14:55

I don't know, I suppose they catch him eventually.

LizzieSiddal

He should not have done what he did, however who knows what he’d gone through whilst waiting for his money? Eviction/relationship issues/no Xmas etc etc.

They won't get holiday pay either, they have to save up through the year for site shut downs etc (( usually 2 weeks summer, 2 weeks Christmas ))

1999 and I'd just left hospital with my new born.

We'd just had Christmas with no pay which we'd saved for through the year (( on barely above minimum wage )) then My OH wages were delayed by a few weeks, I actually enjoyed the food I'd had in hospital. First proper meals I'd had in ages.

We ended up going to live with my mum for the first couple of months, she didn't have much either.and whilst she could feed me so I could feed dd (( breastfed )) certainly couldn't have heated our home too or anything else.

I remember being so pleased when her family allowance came in as I had.my own bit of money I stead of having to go to my mum with a.begging bowl each time.......things settled down after Christmas was out the way and wages became more regular but there were still plenty of delayed payments, or weeks when he didn't have overtime added and knew he had.no.chance of getting it back. This was with a big company too, It's still going and probably still treating its workers like shit. I harbour a lot of resentment towards that time, it sparked raging, PND and stopped me enjoying my dds early days. Horrible, horrible time caused by greedy bastards being dishonest and concentrating on ripping off their workers instead.of treating them fairly

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/01/2019 15:01

I don't believe this was a HR error OR the first time. Those were the actions of a man who'd been there before and had had enough.........then again, I know of self employed people relying on food banks at times and getting fined for delayed payments on bills because certain people in certain industries (( particularly the building industry )) think It's ok to pay people when they get round to it.

THIS ^

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/01/2019 15:05

There is absolutely no excuse for going postal on a building full of people with a digger.

We have NO IDEA what tipped this man over the edge - maybe he had a complete breakdown - this was the final straw and he just was so desperate he didn't think logically.

If he'd take his own life instead of damaging a building, people would be sympathising with him - but because he has damaged property, people are baying for blood!

If firms/companies/individuals paid their bills on time this wouldn't be an issue.

MyFriendGoo5 · 22/01/2019 15:06

Bet it felt bloody satisfying as well.

Bluestitch · 22/01/2019 15:07

Well his co-workers are now saying that his wages were 3 days late and had already been paid in by the time he did this but he hadn't checked his bank account. Surprised he carried on ramming for nearly 30 mins, if it was a moment of madness I would have thought he'd have calmed down before that.

SillySallySingsSongs · 22/01/2019 15:09

but because he has damaged property, people are baying for blood!

Incorrect.

He had no thought for the people in the building. If he had seriously hurt or killed someone, would you still be justifying it?

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 15:10

So, do you think that someone who is pushed to the breaking point over £600 that he takes a digger to a building risking a jail sentence has a further £70 to start a case?

So that makes it ok? It is shit not to get paid but much worse to endanger the lives of others with a heavy machinery tantrum.

Does this mean every single mother in the land being stiffed by an ex for child maintenance can take a digger to his house then?

There is no excuse, whatever the cause, this is appalling behaviour. I agree that someone who does this cannot be mentally stable and is a danger to themselves and others.

MyFriendGoo5 · 22/01/2019 15:26

He was never going to bring the building down with a mini digger, all the supports have huge rods running through them bolting the lot together. The damage looks awful but it's mainly cosmetic.........the other workers would have known this which is why they didn't flee........plus point being they have a weeks extra work whilst it's sorted out..........if they get paid for it that is. WinkHmm

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2019 15:27

I think he will go to jail. It wasn't just cosmetic damage.

OP posts:
Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 15:31

Er, no Winder. I think the small claims court should be accessible to everyone, including those without any financial resources.

Elfinablender · 22/01/2019 15:33

Wunder sorry, I wasn't being pissy there, the autocorrect jumped in.
