Is there anyone who just eats normally?

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 13:46

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

Peanutss · 24/01/2019 15:01

so, what's for tonight's tea?

Beans on toast with a shit ton of cheddar on the top. Followed by half a pack of jammie Dodgers and half a pint of blue topped milk.

KaliforniaDreamz · 24/01/2019 15:07

I love beans on toast.

I need to look in my fridge but i know have mince so may make lasagne.

DailyMailFuckRightOff · 24/01/2019 15:11

This is such an interesting thread. I’m definitely a ‘normal’ eater but find that in the periods where I eat too much junk, I lose my love of food and become quite picky - only want plain foods.
Currently suffering sugar withdrawal headaches after finally having a chocolate-free day (first in months).
Some sort of beef casserole for dinner with rice.
And lots of sparking highland spring water, trickling and fizzing from my glass to my mouth.
No snacks hopefully, trying to knock those on the head.

SecondTimeCharm · 24/01/2019 15:24

interesting thread OP! from the sounds of it I also eat ‘normally’ although what with it currently being miserable january and me being home alone with 3yr old and newborn I would also class my diet as pretty junk/comfort heavy and not healthy at all

today:

coffee
no breakfast
choc donut Confused
lunch m&s super grain salad with all the dressing
1.5 m&s choc bars ConfusedConfused
diet coke can x 2
quorn picnic eggs x 3
dinner: probably oven chips and a veggie burger or equivalent - trying to clear out the freezer before we move. will add some veg on too

I worked in a company that had a full gym that would put any private clubs kit to shame.
The usual juice monkeys that would sit and boast about what they ate and how often they ate it.
The thing that I noticed about these healthy types is that, OK they were pretty fit but every one of them had a face that looked old beyond its years.
A phenomenon that I pointed out to more than a few of them.

Is it their diet? Or the faces they pull when exerting themselves? I dunno but I swear that all these guys that took up this pastime aged before my eyes.
I'll stick to a bit mountain biking and a long walk with the dog followed with a few glasses of wine and a curry at the weekend.

TheCounter · 24/01/2019 15:48

Oh aye. I also attended my brothers birthday party a few months ago. He's 4 years older but lives off chicken breast and various supplements as a result of his obsession with fitness, where one of his wifes nephews said I looked too young to be from the same mother as him.
Didn't have the heart to tell him lol.

Alot to be said for a good fry up and a weekend binge.

TheCounter · 24/01/2019 15:48

*his wifes nephews

Rebekah1965 · 24/01/2019 15:56

Grin reading this while eating a bag of popcorn - (sweet & salt if you were wondering). Got a packet of biscuits for later.

WorraLiberty · 24/01/2019 16:09

quite often find that people who profess to be able to indulge in eating lots of bread pasta and chocolate with no effect on their weight will have some chronic ailment instead. Pretty sure no-one gets away with it, our bodies aren't stupid.

Define 'lots' though. My 'lots' could be half the size/amount of your idea of 'lots'.

Also, some people when listing the exercise they've done that day, will mention 'walking for 20 minutes', as though it's not a completely normal thing to do. Then again, some people drive absolutely everywhere.

So I think there's a lot more to it.

Passportapplication · 24/01/2019 16:18

Agree Worra I can eat whatever I like and never move away from just under 8 stone, but have realised after 35 odd years of eating out with other people that they without fail eat a lot more than I do. I just get very full, very quickly, no discipline to boast of I just physically can't eat any more. I wish I could as I look too thin but there you go.

Grumpos · 24/01/2019 16:21

Normal is subjective though isn’t it?
I’ve been veggie for almost my whole life and have always loved my fruit and veggies and not very keen on stodgy stuff so I probably do eat what some would say is a bit “Waitrose wannabe” but then I always have eaten that stuff, not influenced by anyone but my own taste.
I’ve also been borderline chubby since forever so I have always made a conscious effort to eat well. I think it’s completely bizarre to have a takeaway during the week for example, they are weekend treats! But friends and my partner wouldn’t bat an eyelid at having an Indian takeaway or a kebab etc on a Wednesday....Each to their own I guess!

TheLastNigel · 24/01/2019 16:31

Thecounter..the gym types look old because when you carry a bit more weight your face is a tad fuller and smoother as a rule-fat don't crack as they say...Grin

WorraLiberty · 24/01/2019 16:32

Same here Passport. I just don't eat as much as a lot of other people, as I don't have a huge appetite.

But I think the more we eat, the more we need to eat in order to feel full. That's why I despair when I read weaning threads and people are packing 3 Weetabix into babies, or cereal and toast and yoghurt. There's just no need for it.

TheCounter · 24/01/2019 17:40

Thelastnigel...Never thought of that.
There does seem to be an unhealthy gauntness going on from the neck up.
Suppose the trick is just to remain 'lean' or not overdo the diet.

Passportapplication · 24/01/2019 18:01

Worra I stop the minute I'm full, not a bit beyond. Any leftovers are lunch the next day. I've sat opposite friends in restaurants watching them stuff themselves to almost bursting point. Agree with you totally re children's diets.

firstbrightday · 24/01/2019 18:50

Me 🙋🏽‍♀️ I eat just like you op! But with a croissant for breakfast some days Blush

Twuntsrule · 24/01/2019 19:32

When I was younger, my doctor told me that breakfast was necessary to "jump start" your metabolism, or else it would be sluggish all day and you wouldn't metabolize your food as efficiently. She was right (at least for me).

During the week:
B yogurt (French-style "Oui"), lots of ice water
L sandwich (usually breaded chicken cutlet) or cheeseburger with Swiss cheese or two yogurts, lots of ice water
D rotisserie chicken/chicken cutlets/baked pork chop with either jacket potato/wide egg noodles/rice made with whole garlic cloves and minced ginger, plus veg. Sometimes big salad with steamed, chilled haricots vert, goat cheese, white beans, crushed croutons, chicken breast, topped with white vinaigrette shallot salad dressing. Ice cream or rice pudding, plus lots of ice water

Weekends
B yogurt or small chocolate donut, ice water
L leftover something, ice water
D pizza or braised beef roast/steak with potato and veg, lots of red wine

I used to be an honorary Brit due to my obsession with a proper cup/pot of tea, as well as many varieties of tea, but now avoid it due to caffeine. Same with iced tea. Never liked/drank coffee and gave up soda 20+ years ago, so ice water is the substitute. Plus, I know that the amount of water I drink has been beneficial to my health. I drink more red wine than I should on weekends, but then there's the French Paradox to consider!

And yes, I could eat a more healthy diet, but also I could be eating a lot more garbage/fast food, so I think I've struck a balance here. And I do love good food. Truly happiest in summer when tucking into a steak or lamb chops cooked on my grill, with grilled vegetables and potatoes.

Twuntsrule · 24/01/2019 19:34

That should be "white balsamic vinaigrette shallot salad dressing"!

WunderBlah · 24/01/2019 20:38

Ok today's dangerwich was avocado and sardines, a new combo, twas yum. Cereal breakfast and awesome dinner, pizza&chips then rice pud with peach slices. I am on my second glass of wine and have opened a pack of choc digestives. Happy days {grin]

WunderBlah · 24/01/2019 20:51

some dangerwich history

and some breaducation for the breadphobic

I especially liked these facts;

The world's oldest evidence of bread-making has been found in a 14,500 year old Natufian site in Jordan's northeastern desert.

So not a modern junk food at all then.

Bread is the staple food of the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa, Europe, and in European-derived cultures such as those in the Americas, Australia, and Southern Africa, in contrast to parts of South and East Asia where rice or noodle is the staple.

So not a british poverty struck area junk food then.

Nutritionally, bread is categorized as a source of grains in the food pyramid and is a good source of carbohydrates and nutrients such as magnesium, iron, selenium, B vitamins, and dietary fiber.

So probably not child abuse.

crust has more dietary fiber and antioxidants such as pronyl-lysine, which is being researched for its potential colorectal cancer inhibitory properties.

So could benefit health by STOPPING CANCER.

KlutzyDraconequus · 24/01/2019 21:09

Ok today's dangerwich was avocado and sardines

Ahh that explains the 5 horsemen of the apocalypst rocking up on the M6 just near Birmingham earlier today.

"And I looked and I saw a beige horse, and the man that sat on it was bread and hell followed with him."

WunderBlah · 24/01/2019 21:23
Grin

It was toasted too. I am sure there was a 666 mark near the crust.

KlutzyDraconequus · 24/01/2019 21:28

Omg Wunder.. the wrath of the heavens will be unleashed.. have you not read your Bible for a while?

And I heard, as it were, the noise of thunder
One of the four beasts saying,
'Come and see.' and I saw, and he held a white medium sliced loaf"

We're all doomed... Doomed I say..
