Is there anyone who just eats normally?

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 13:46

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

@Asta19 The idea that you (or anyone) will just drop dead at a time that suits you, is madness.

The reality is that you are likely to have years of ill health, being a burden to your children.

This is why people try to look after their health. Not to live till they are 105.

Mmest75 · 23/01/2019 17:40

Totally agree -
I have toast or cereal for breakfast a sandwich, crisps at lunch and maybe an apple or something. Dinner - pasta or toad in the hole type of thing ...
A mum was genuinely in shock that I eat bread.. but why?!

I think I'm normal.

Toast for breakfast.
Soup or sandwich for lunch.
Whatever meal cooked in oven, pan, or microwave for dinner.

floribunda18 · 23/01/2019 17:52

If I "eat normally" I put weight on, therefore I have to eat healthily, and to lose weight, less calories than I actually need.

shoesarefab · 23/01/2019 17:54

All we do is eat in our house, my husband says it’s the only happiness he has left in life 😂

So today I had 2 slices of toast and marmite, a pear, a super greens salad from M&S for lunch, 2 hot choc with whipped cream and a slice of carrot & walnut cake this afternoon at Costa and for dinner I just had sausage casserole and mash. I’m planning on 4 Portuguese tarts from Morrison’s for dessert. That’s me probably holding back as well 😂 I’m breastfeeding though so we’ll blame it on that 😬

Rosejasmine · 23/01/2019 17:56

Not normal at the moment for me :(
Peanut bar thingy (90cals)for Breakfast with strong coffee
Avocado, cottage cheese and salad, coconut water for lunch
Dinner: left over homemade very lean chilli con carne with vegs (no rice)
Supper: will be flipping cottage cheese again.
On a bit of a diet and have lost nearly a stone in 3 weeks.

blueskydays · 23/01/2019 17:57

I'm glad you've started this OP! I think I eat pretty healthily but a lot of the normal food threads on here make me wonder if I'm way off the mark with the "normal" amount.

Today is pretty typical for my weekday eating (weekends = CAKE)

Breakfast - porridge with berries, seeds, honey on top
Lunch - soup with some baguette and an apple
Snacks - couple of dates, piece of dark choc, couple of spoons of peanut butter!
Dinner - planning veggie chilli with sweet tatos

Plus a couple of coffees and loadsa tea!

That's amazing!! Well done you Grin

Doesn’t bother me when people claim to eat super healthy grub - what does grate on me though is when they add poncy detail such as: so, today I had - fresh organic spinach leaves, organic cous cous, lochmuir organic salmon with organic baby sweetcorn and asparagus tips, ...oh and an organic pink lady apple Angry

AFistfulofDolores1 · 23/01/2019 18:02

The older I've got, the less tolerant my body becomes of crap. I'm not rabid about it, but I do:

  • Eat a lot of veg and fruit
  • Eat minimal processed carbs
  • Eat minimal protein
  • No cow's milk if I can help it
  • No sugar (replace in tea with honey)
  • One cup of coffee a day
  • And I try to have a glass of celery juice every morning

Having said that, I drink wine relatively regularly - but I find my body is less forgiving of that as well.

Monthsontherun · 23/01/2019 18:05

Oh god I love crap food. It's so hard to exchange crisps for celery although I probably eat both. I laugh at the precise amount of chocolate square consumed though or that sandwiches are dreadful.

I'm under 8 Stone and fairly fit, in my 50's, do wish I could be more disciplined...

Magenta46 · 23/01/2019 18:08

Today I've eaten left over soya chunks curry, left over tuna and spinach lasagna and no doubt by 10 pm I'll be ravenous and decide to make an omelette. It will of course turn out to be a scrambled mess of whatever is lurking in the fridge with a couple of slices of buttered toast.
When I'm in a relationship I tend to eat much better. I love cooking and sharing a meal with others who appreciate my food. I'm a good cook and always ensure my dc has a balanced diet.

BadlyAgedMemes · 23/01/2019 18:10

I eat whatever I want but I m about 4 stone overweight. I was bulimic and anorexic for the best part of a decade though and I get obsesssive if I start counting cals/ww/sw etc.

I have the same problem of getting obsessed. It very quickly and easily becomes a cycle for me: I start counting calories or something else in order to improve a bit, keep myself in a bit of check etc. I then start wanting to do "better and better". I get obsessed that each morsel is accurately recorded. Actually meeting my planned calories becomes a feeling of failure. It becomes more restrictive, and I'll think of nothing else except food all day long. Then a treat sneaks in, and the purging urges start. These days I can call things off at this stage most of the time, but not always. In the past I would then have a period of heavy purging and increased binging, until I was too sore and unwell to keep doing it, and would abandon any attempt at healthiness just to get my head out of the that place.

Most of the advice I've had from professionals is to not try to diet, but to aim for "healthier choices". It's hard, though. I can't quite find that balance. I eat mostly healthy food these days, with treats thrown in, but not daily. My weight has been within the same half a stone for a good long while now. But as I'm not happy with my size, my self esteem isn't great, and I worry about diabetes, the cycles do pop up now and again.

maureen17 · 23/01/2019 18:10

normal? is there normal ...differently yes.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 23/01/2019 18:11

If we are all discussing our food today I’ve had
2 boiled eggs and ham for brekki
Then a pear mid morning
Lunch chilli and salad /yoghurt raspberries and Meringue
Tea stew and some fruit.
I’d love to eat my current weight in chocolate and crisps but I’m living in leggings till I fit back into my currently redundant wardrobe

Ellyess · 23/01/2019 18:11

Peanutss. You are super-healthy compared to me. I eat a terrible diet. I don't even dare confess. I live on milk which everyone says isn't actually good for you. I eat what I like and hardly ever eat things that are "good for you". I shock myself. Weirdly I don't feel ill. Yet.

DavetheCat2001 · 23/01/2019 18:12

Is it just me or does a lot of sausage casserole and chilli con carnie get eaten on this theead? 🤔

Rachelle3211 · 23/01/2019 18:13

Breakfast spinach, beet, fruit smoothie.
Snack- vegan nut & seed, blueberry, breakfast "cookies".
Lunch- Chickpea, lentil, veggie dip with crackers, and apple sipped in yogurt, cinnamon, maple syrup dip.
Dinner- Lime, ginger chicken, rice and veggies.

ciderhouserules · 23/01/2019 18:13

I'm amazed at the amount of wheat people eat! Toast for breakfast, sandwich at lunch and pasta at dinner? I'd be bloated AF by 11am if I tried to eat that lot!

I didn't even realise how bloated and unnatural I felt until I tried LowCarbing - and cut out all wheat. my DP also did, and it's reduced his bloating/farting to NIL.

I don't miss it at all.

My Breakfast - Fullfat yoghurt with berries and chia seeds.
Lunch - salad with protein, or leftover dinner from yesterday, or omelette.
Dinner - lots of lowcarb veg, with protein (chicken, ham, beef, eggs etc) and probably cooked in cream/cheese/butter! Grin

I've lost weight, and feel great.

MTGGirl · 23/01/2019 18:14

I have gut issues (big ones) and yet I eat more like you than the posters. Also, apart from now I don't remember sharing my eating habits
Breakfast: glutenfree choc logs (sainsbury)/gf tiffin
Lunch: what's that?
dinner: I cook every day. Meat/Fish + starch + veggies. Sometimes fancy, sometimes really simple. So far both my husband and son are healthy, normal functioning human beings. (well... the latter only to the extent of also being a teenager.... :) )

Kahlua4me · 23/01/2019 18:16

I eat fairly normally I think..
Cereal or eggs on toast for breakfast,
Salad or leftovers for lunch
Something substantial for tea. Fish or meat or something veggie with vegetables or salad plus carbs.

We all eat as a family when we are at home for any meal and dc always have what we eat. There is usually something that somebody would prefer not to have, dh being the worst culprit, but tough - we are a family and all eat together😀😀

IJustLostTheGame · 23/01/2019 18:16

I usually eat no more than 1400 calories a day 5 days a week. And I'm doing the 5 to 10k app three times a week.
Today I've scoffed a bag of kettle chips and a family size mint aero.
And I didn't go running this morning because its icy.
That last half a stone ain't going to shift itself. But today I give zero fucks.

KittyVonCatsworth · 23/01/2019 18:17

I'm the same as AFistfulofDelores1 my body just can't hack a lot of unhealthy (but yummy) food anymore. I have cut so much out of my diet to stop the bloating, the pain, the bad skin and lethargy which means no gluten, little dairy and even less red meat. I do think your taste buds become adjusted and I class what I eat now as normal and tasty. I had a blow out on holiday and just felt terrible for it.

Mayrhofen · 23/01/2019 18:17

I think I eat normally. Well it’s normal for me.

No breakfast, ever.

Early lunch of a big fat brown or granary bread bread cake with cheese salad and mayo from the sandwich shop and a packet of walkers ready salted.

Dinner curry and naan, pie and veg and gravy or lasagna and veg and garlic bread etc very standard fare but home cooked 99% of the time.

Then pudding.

Always a pudding.

Either something with custard or a slice of cake or a bag of sweets. I often have a glass of wine too, but I’m trying to cut that out.

Gosh that sounds heaps written down.
