..after the new home, cars, holiday. What would you buy that would make your life easier, or maybe it would be something you've always wanted but is not possible to buy now?

Mine would be a live in chef, to cook me breakfast, lunch and dinner ahhhhh ☺️ I hate cooking. It gives me rage 😠

I don’t have any to spare money each payday, so I’d buy a few new outfits, a holiday for my family, and I would want to give some family some money to help them, and some friends a helping hand with medical needs etc, and I’d give money to someone who helps get girls out of trafficking.

Kiwiinkits · 24/01/2019 02:51

Housekeeper, gardener, chef, nanny and personal trainer for me. They would come in when needed, discretely, to keep things ticking over. They would not mind if I was in my dressing gown or having an argument with my DH. I would never need to remember to take the rubbish to the front gate as my help would sort that out. I would not need to change sheets on beds or pick up the kids crap from the floor. Cushions would be plumped, DH's coffee cups cleared away. The gardener would be a landscape designer and would make my front garden stylish and welcoming, then kept weed free. He or she would wipe my letterbox when it got dusty or cob-webby without being asked to. The nanny would give the children breakfast and get them entirely ready for school while I work out with the Personal Trainer out of earshot.

Extend the art collection with contemporary art from up-and-coming geniuses.

And one of those wardrobe consultant personal shopper ladies to find me a pair of work trousers and a pair of jeans that look good, without traipsing around the shops.

Nanny would be available for school holidays and work trips abroad and I would never have to run around arranging arrangements for child care ever again.

Time40 · 24/01/2019 03:16

A swimming pool. Or move back to London, because it feels as though my life has sort of ended since I left. If it was a really big win, I'd move back to London AND have a swimming pool.

RumbleDoll · 24/01/2019 04:32

Everything lifted, sucked and tucked.
And a groom for the horses, so I had time for my new lover.

Sweetpea55 · 24/01/2019 06:48

Someone who lived near me won £14 million on the lottery.
If I'd won that much I'd give a million each to my daughters. Put money in trust for my Grandchildren.
Give a lot to my Dsis who does 1940's talks and displays so she can get more stuff.
Pay someone to knock down my genealogical brick walls.
Go to the Christmas markets in Nuremburg and Saltzburg.

Sweetpea55 · 24/01/2019 06:50

How would you all deal with the begging letters? I think I'd just bin mine unopened

MiniTheMinx · 24/01/2019 07:09

Tennis court and a coach five times a week.
Stables and sand school, and someone to look after my horse, I'm not experienced or confident enough to be left to my own devices.
I'd be outside all day. Hate being cooped up inside, but equally love being at home.

SilverDoe · 24/01/2019 07:15

The baseline happiness bit is interesting, but it’s assuming that you have those things in the first place. I don’t own a house nor can I afford to pay for my own nice holidays. The removal of worrying about whether you can pay the bills and still have a decent life, not living pay to pay, would make a huge difference in so many peoples lives.

I agree though that the threshold to achieve that is much lower than needing to win the lottery. I’d invest most of it in children’s charities if I could only buy a house, have a few holidays and experiences paid off and have a nest egg for my children. Beyond that I don’t really need anything (besides a personal trainer, personal shopper and personal chef obvs)

adriennewillfly · 24/01/2019 07:28

Another for housekeeper (or even just a more regular cleaner. Would definitely need it with the size of house we'd have after winning the lottery.

SingaSong12 · 24/01/2019 07:29

Bespoke slippers, private therapy for ASD as an adult - not sure it exists but it definitely doesn’t in my area.

HettyB · 24/01/2019 07:52

A housekeeper/PA to sort all the annoying stuff like booking appointments, liaising with the contractors who’d be renovating my huge mansion, and doing the shopping.

I’d also like someone to do my hair and make up every morning, and give me massages.

And maybe a personal trainer so I could finally shift that last half stone.

UniversalAunt · 24/01/2019 07:54

First rule of wealth club is tell no-one.
Second rule of wealth club is pack in dreary unfulfilling wage slave paid work. I used to say that if I won the lottery I’d turn up & do it my/right way just to spite the bastards but who needs the grief.
Third rule of wealth club is new knickers that fit & flatter every day.
Fourth rule of wealth club is freshly made bed EVERY day - aaaaah, the luxury.

Friend’s sister won relatively modest lottery sum (

BarbarianMum · 24/01/2019 07:56

The biggest piece of land i could afford with no public access. Then Id build a fence round it, put a small house in the middle and manage it for wildlife. Or Id set up a tortoise sanctuary. Or maybe combine the 2 : house surrounded by sanctuary surrounded by wildlife.

OneStepMoreFun · 24/01/2019 08:05

I'd hire a friend who is a really good but expensive interior designer to help me remodel our entire house. It's dated now but we don't have the funds to redo it.

Gym, pool and sauna, a library and map room.

The same for the garden and then I'd hire a gardener and housekeeper to keep them in great condition.

Huge bouquets of local flowers delivered every week for every reception room.

Every morning a private yoga teacher or personal trainer to start the day.

I'd love it. DH says I need to actually buy a ticket for this to become a possibility.

UniversalAunt · 24/01/2019 10:07

Yes to purchasing native woodlands into a trust that manages them without damage into perpetuity, AND buy the surrounding lands to bring them up to the same woodland micro environment. So that means removing commercial crops & plantings, to be replanted with the native woodlands.
I’d like to leave some sustainable protected woodlands for future generations of people & wildlife.

UniversalAunt · 24/01/2019 10:11

Bees - lots of bees.
Bees for environment over commercial production.
Of course there will some bee product - they’d get first call but once their hive overfloweth, then it’s all go for Auntie’s Woodland Bee Goodies.

Tinty · 24/01/2019 10:14

Cleaner, Holiday, then a house each for the DC's and a house to let to help when I am a pensioner. I am very dull. Grin

Somewhereovertheroad · 24/01/2019 10:23

Someone to come in to get kids up and out in the morning. A good timekeeper with an ability to cut through the delaying tactics and nonsense.

formerbabe · 24/01/2019 10:25

Definitely a housekeeper.

And a nanny...I'd still look after my children myself but I'd love the option to pop out, go to the gym, go shopping, have a night out whenever I wanted.

longtompot · 24/01/2019 10:41

I'd love to have a house which had a big enough garden for an indoor swimming pool/ hydro pool, but with a roof that could come off for the summer.
I would employ a physio for my daughters to help them become more mobile.
I would hire a swimming instructor to teach me how to swim.
I would hire a personal trainer to get my and the dh fit again.
I would have a cleaner who would do all the hoovering, polishing, window cleaning, change the beds every week, clean the bathrooms..
I would pay to have all mine and my dhs dental work done under ga.
I would have regular massages, haircuts, manicures and pedicures.

I wouldn't get a dog walker as I love walking my dog.

OurChristmasMiracle · 24/01/2019 10:44

Would love to buy 2 semis next door to each other and would “invest” in decent neighbours- or to be specific give second house to current flatmate.

I’d go on a nice holiday pay off all Debts but still continue working as I currently do and wouldn’t change much.

longtompot · 24/01/2019 10:47

@UniversalAunt I love your recording idea!

Stealing @OneStepMoreFun s idea, I would also have fresh flowers every week, of beautiful scented roses.

I love the woodland ideas too, and the bees. So much good could be done by us all. I think one of us should win it pronto ;)

HalfBloodPrincess · 24/01/2019 10:47

I’d hire a PA to sort everything out for me

Itssadsometimes · 24/01/2019 12:17

going back to the arguments about long-term satisfaction, the way to stop happiness levelling out is to feel like you've made a difference to someone.
lots of us do that in various ways through our labour. But as a lottery winner you can do it with money.
This is why Bill Gates spends his money curing malaria. Each bit of progress gives him happiness that another house can no longer give. It's selfish, but great.

MumW · 24/01/2019 12:38

I'm with Bling but, if it was a huge amount I would want to be a bit philanthropic too.
