..after the new home, cars, holiday. What would you buy that would make your life easier, or maybe it would be something you've always wanted but is not possible to buy now?

Mine would be a live in chef, to cook me breakfast, lunch and dinner ahhhhh ☺️ I hate cooking. It gives me rage 😠

I am not much of a materialistic sort of person, if i ever won the lottery i would look for property with alot of land so i could open my own animal rescue, specifically for the rehabilitation or aggressive dogs as i think people give up on them far too quickly. This has been my dream for the last 20 years

HollowTalk · 23/01/2019 15:47

I think the problem is that whatever you gave away (to friends and family) there would be some people who'd want more and label you mean for not handing more over. "It's alright for her, she had £180 million but she only gave me one million" sort of thing. Then there are those you wouldn't want to give money to - eg you might want to treat your niece but hate her husband. And then there would be those who would be massively worse off as a result, eg they'd drink too much and buy fast cars. Is it too much to say "No, it has to be spent on a house and you can't sell it"?

And read the threads on here where people complain about cleaners - what would you do when your staff take the piss, eh?!

Bluelady · 23/01/2019 15:48

Spread it around - kids and best friend would all get a house/their mortgage paid off. Lots of travel - first class flights and 5* hotels all the way. Weekly cleaner. And a Chanel 2.55 handbag because I've wanted one for ever.

Bishalisha · 23/01/2019 15:48

Housekeeper and wrap around nannies

lunicorn · 23/01/2019 15:52

My daughter doesn't speak at school. I'd give up work so she didn't have to sit in silence in the school bus do some serious investment into therapy for her.

I'd get the rolls Royce of catsitters, a project manager and have the downstairs if my house remodelled while we had a 5 star holiday to a hot place. Made me really happy thinking of all that.Smile

wonderingme · 23/01/2019 16:02

I'd preserve my fertility with natural IVF and freezing eggs

I'd get a nanny/housekeeper

I'd get a fancy steam shower bath thingy to go in my new home

I'd buy all the fancy gadgets I can't afford now - Dyson hairdryer and styler and air purifier

TheCowboy · 23/01/2019 16:10

New house. Massive sound system. Audi R8.

After that, I'd look to buy into a successful small business that I would be happy working for. I'd need something to occupy my time.

spinabifidamom · 23/01/2019 16:13

A personal assistant to help me manage my crazy schedule. I'd also splash out on a lovely vacation somewhere hot and nice as well. Oh and pretty clothes and shoes. A girl must have her fix of pretty and affordable dresses and shoes to wear for nights out partying too.

peachgreen · 23/01/2019 16:19

Obviously all the things people have mentioned like cleaners and gardeners and a private chef - but I'd also get a facial, a massage, a manicure and a pedicure once a week. Heaven.

helpmeoutout · 23/01/2019 16:27

personal stylist, nail technician, make up artist and a hairdresser!

JustBeingJobless · 23/01/2019 16:31

I’d pay privately to have my back fixed and knees replaced, both of which the NHS don’t class as “urgent” despite me being a part time wheelchair user, in constant pain and unable to hold a job down.

Not sure if I’d move house or not, as I love my house and it’s paid up, but I’d certainly give it a complete overhaul. And replace my 11yo car.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/01/2019 16:34

With the lottery win you have a short to medium term spike in happiness - but essentially you still eat, drink, drive around, go on holiday
Except I cant afford to drive or go on holiday so being ale to do that would make me happier.

OKhitmewithit · 23/01/2019 16:45

I’d have a full time gardener, and possibly depending on the win, move my work to the charitable sector.

I would possibly move to have bigger grounds. Grounds are grand Grin

Sidelook · 23/01/2019 16:49

I would buy lots of houses and turn them into women’s refuges.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 23/01/2019 16:50

My own house with a spare room for all my Harry Potter stuff, also want a multi sports area ( basketball, football, tennis) a swimming pool would be nice but not essential. I would love a car 😊 but my main priority would be getting to New York 🤣🤣 if I win enough, might even buy an apartment and just rent it out when I’m not there 🤣🤣also wanna take DS and dd to Disneyland Florida. I went when I was younger and loved it.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 23/01/2019 16:50

I would also hire a cook
I was imagining how lovely it would be to come home from work to a nutritious healthy meal every day and then it occurred to me that I wouldn’t need to work, I quite like my job so maybe I’d pop in to help for a couple of hours a week!

Fatasfook · 23/01/2019 17:13

I would sort my siblings and parents out with stable housing, that would alleviate a lot of my worries.

wink1970 · 23/01/2019 17:16

I would buy lots of houses and turn them into women’s refuges

That's a lovely idea, Sidelook. I'll join you in donating my house if I upgrade to another.

ScienceIsTruth · 23/01/2019 17:56

I wouldn't move atm, but I would just pay someone to finish all the snags in the house in one go (eg, finish coving, redo some bits in the kitchen I'm not happy with, landscape garden, etc).

I'd employ a gardener, a dog walker, a housekeeper and a cleaner. I'd have my hair cut more often, including just having it styled when I'm going out somewhere nice (not that that happens often!).
I'd also pay for a stylist to show me how to dress to suit my shape, age, etc, and how to do my make up properly.
I'd pay for private education & university (if they wanted to go) for my dc.

What I'd really love to be able to afford to do though is this:
I'd buy up several small houses and rent them out at market value, but the money would all go into a special account (that isn't used/spent) to enable the people renting to save for a deposit on a house/flat, etc. Once they had enough they'd be able to buy somewhere and someone else would be able to benefit.
Being able to help others in this way would bring me so much joy, so I do think money can bring long term happiness.

ScienceIsTruth · 23/01/2019 17:57

I'd also help out my family and friends, but that goes without saying, as that would be the 1st thing I'd do.

OublietteBravo · 23/01/2019 17:58

I’d employ a chauffeur. I don’t enjoy driving at all. I’d love to be able to afford to pay someone to do it for me.

ScienceIsTruth · 23/01/2019 17:59

Can't wait to read what everyone else has put now (didn't want it clouding my judgement). Grin

Waspnest · 23/01/2019 18:09

I'd pay for private healthcare, not insurance but actual ring up, book an appointment and pay with credit card afterwards healthcare. And I'd buy up a load of houses locally and rent them out really cheaply to people who wanted to save up deposits to buy their own homes.

Waspnest · 23/01/2019 18:11

Sorry Sciencels crossposted! Maybe there are loads of us who want to do the house thing out there?

fussychica · 23/01/2019 18:18

Handmade shoes. Looked into getting some a while back, not an optionShock. A really great watch and perhaps a nice ring. I quite fancy having a hairdresser on speed dial.
Otherwise not into designer anything.
