To not go back to work after course?

I’m on a really boring course this week in my work place. I’m also new to the role and have no IT log in yet. There is no signing in or time clocking in and out. It’s a military environment so very relaxed regarding hours...

My course keeps ending at 3pm and on Friday we are apparently finishing at 12. They normally leave at lunch time on a Friday anyway. I’ve been going home when it ends. I supppse I could be “studying” at home too!

AIBU not to go into my office at lunchtime/when the course finishes early?

Are you new to the role or to the employer?

I would expect a new employee to be at their keenest and most enthusiastic in first few weeks after starting and would be a bit Hmmif they were already sloping off early. I appreciate it's frustrating to have to sit around not doing much but I think it's worth a couple of hours of boredom to make a good impression.

I’ve been told by the person I’m shadowing that courses count as a full day. I keep being sent home early by my boss at there is no IT access for me. As I said, it’s the kind of environment where they finish at lunch two days a week anyway. So I’m just told I can go home and work on the qualification I’m studying.

And no, I’m no the most enthusiastic person. Grin

Well if you've been specifically told by the person managing you to go home after the course then I'm not really sure why you're asking on here to be honest.
