Put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!

OP posts:
babybunny123 · 22/01/2019 11:41

loo brushes are the most disgusting thing ever, I would never have one in my house. I put bleach every day into the cistern, keeps the loo fresh and clean.

RickOShay · 22/01/2019 11:43

I wouldn’t buy a new loo
brush, it’s too much waste.
Just soak it.

meladeso · 22/01/2019 11:45

I love how nobody is RTFT and so the PP who said THEY ALREADY DO THIS is flying under the radar Grin

OP posts:
LoudestRoar · 22/01/2019 11:45

If your loo bush is at a stage you're considering putting it through the dishwasher, you need a new loo brush!

Angelicwings · 22/01/2019 11:45

Not read all 8 pages but in answer to the OP, that would be one of the worst things I could ever think of doing. Or read here. I've been on MN since 2004 (yes, really - back in the Cod days! (I'm not Cod though Grin) and this really ranks as one of the top 3 OMGs.

WHY JUST WHY? Loo brushes are evil anyway. There's no way I'd try to "save" one.

Why the dishwasher?! Where you put plates you eat from? Why not a bucket of boiling bleach water? Or, better, throw it out when it's getting manky and buy a new cheap one.

Angelicwings · 22/01/2019 11:47

I'd rather buy a new loo than put the loo brush in the dishwasher.

Or a new house.

Or a new village.

It's hands down disgusting!

Oh god no. I can't believe people actually do this

I've had peices of lasagne, the odd bit of mushroom left in the bottom of my dishwasher. I wouldn't chance having a lump of shit hanging out in there.

I won't even put the pets bowls in mine, even on their own. Eurgh Confused

Lycanthropology · 22/01/2019 11:57

This thread has put me off eating or drinking anything in anyone else’s house ever in case they do this

This^ x 100. It would never have occurred to me until this thread that anyone would even consider this.

Also, the “chicken is worse than poo” people. Seriously? I know which I’d rather eat!

BBInGinDrinking · 22/01/2019 11:58

A thread on MN about loo brushes was always going to be busy and never going to end well.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 22/01/2019 11:59

Have you ever seen the sludge that builds up in the bottom of your dishwasher OP from all the bits of food? If not, I suggest you go and have a look right now and imagine bits of faecal matter and loo roll added to the mix, all sitting there being sloshed all over your plates.

When you’ve finished vomiting, give your head a serious wobble and stop being so stupid. Ugh!

Jux · 22/01/2019 12:00

As well as the hot-water-bleach-in-bucket I put bleach in the loo brush stand thing too. Brush and stand get flushed through as last thing when cleanig loo and fresh bleach added to the stand thing. No idea whether it makes a real difference though.

newnameforthis7 · 22/01/2019 12:02

EWW gross!!!

NO!

Buy new. They cost a quid!

WorldofTofuness · 22/01/2019 12:03

I avoid any such angsting by simply not cleaning the bog from one year month to the next. Dislodge any klingons with a bit of bog roll as needed, ditto with the seat and small spills from DD. No'one's got ill yet.

Yabbers · 22/01/2019 12:05

It's probably ok. Couldn't do it though.

I'd use a bucket of bleach.

AmericanEskimoDoge · 22/01/2019 12:07

I'm one of those who thinks it's ok to wash dogs' dishes in the dw (because, yes, chicken drippings go in there, and how much worse could a dog's dish be?), but I couldn't bring myself to do this. Maybe it's silly, but the toilet is the toilet and the kitchen is the kitchen, and never the twain shall meet.

I tend not to clean/replace the brushes very often, tbh they have just the one job and aren't even on display but when the time comes, I buy a new brush and toss the old one. If I felt I had to keep it longer, I'd go the bleach in a bucket route.

imanoldbattleaxe · 22/01/2019 12:11

Yes, they're £1 at B and M so buy new ones!

bobstersmum · 22/01/2019 12:11

Bin the sodding things they're 50p!

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 22/01/2019 12:13

Oh God, NO!!!

thenightsky · 22/01/2019 12:16

Where are they 50p?? I'm off to replace all mine at that price!

OK... question. Would the old ones go in normal rubbish, or recycling (plastic)?

JemSynergy · 22/01/2019 12:17

Heave. You might end up with bits of residue of poo in the dishwasher. I would just soak it in bleach. I hate loo brushes.

Kokeshi123 · 22/01/2019 12:19

Loo brushes, cat litter tray and things like that get washed on the balcony with hot soapy water and a bit of bleach.

JemSynergy · 22/01/2019 12:22

It reminds me of people who wash their tea towels with their underwear. It is a no no. Shock

oldwhyno · 22/01/2019 12:23

No no no no no no no no, don't go there, and no.

If you really need alternative suggestions in order to not consider this insanity, a dishwasher will usually wash at up to 75C. Your washing machine on the other hand will have a 90C cycle.....

PookieDo · 22/01/2019 12:29

loo brushes are 50p in IKEA. I’ve had mine a couple of years. I would never ever put it in a dishwasher
