Put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!

Raw chicken (which may or may not contain salmonella) is a bit different from excrement surely?

Worse, apparently

Daisiesinavase · 22/01/2019 11:04

The highest temperature my dishwasher washes at is 65. That's not going to kill a lof of bacteria, is it?

OutPinked · 22/01/2019 11:06

God no, that’s vile! You eat off plates that go in there... horrid. Just buy a new loo brush, they’re a quid!

Yerroblemom1923 · 22/01/2019 11:08

What do you clean a loo with if you dint have a toilet brush????!!! Surely no one is going to put their hand down a toilet????!!!Envy not envy.

itsonlysubterfuge · 22/01/2019 11:10

This is why I use a cloth or sponge to clean my toilet. You can throw away the sponge or clean the cloth. No disgusting loo brush in my house.

Poundstretcher, 50p, you can afford to replace them every week!

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 22/01/2019 11:14

I’ve read it all now.

No. Just no.

LakieLady · 22/01/2019 11:15

We live in an area with very hard water. Unless we scrub the bog frequently, limescale builds up really quickly.

twattymctwatterson · 22/01/2019 11:16

Only if you want shit in your dishwasher

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/01/2019 11:16

Personally I think thats gross and I wouldnt do it, I would just buy new ones. If you dont want to do that, then maybe use other ways of cleaning the toilet as others have detailed.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/01/2019 11:19

Why do you need loo brushes to be that clean

Because they make a darned good toothbrush afterwards? Wink Grin

tasyuta · 22/01/2019 11:20

I don't really have an opinion, and fully understand and share your unwillingness to keep throwing things away. Just one note: bleach and hot water DON'T go together. Hot water stops bleach. You can do just hot water and then tepid water with bleach, or the other way round?

gnushoes · 22/01/2019 11:20

Just put some bleach in the thingy where the brush gets stored. What's the issue though? YOu're putting it straight back in the shit so unless somebody's licking the brush in between uses it's a non-issue.

Clappyhapper · 22/01/2019 11:22

I stand it in the ruler and pour bleach down

Clappyhapper · 22/01/2019 11:23

Toilet!

BBInGinDrinking · 22/01/2019 11:27

For some reason, I am reminded of Paddington using the family toothbrushes to clean out his ears.

anniehm · 22/01/2019 11:29

No, don't - boiling water in a bucket used for nothing else, or (don't tell the environmental lobby) I replace mine each month, 50p from local discount shop

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 22/01/2019 11:29

Just use a bucket with boiling water and some cleaning solution.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 22/01/2019 11:35

Bamboo loo brushes are available. Plastic free and biodegradable. Urgh to the dishwasher idea

Magicstar1 · 22/01/2019 11:36

We have one of these...had it for years and it's still like new. Just rinse under the water when you flush (nothing sticks to it Envy)
They're called Wunder toilet brushes

Would it be absolutely disgusting to...
Tinkerbell89 · 22/01/2019 11:37

Don't do that just buy a new one and throw old ones away

Thehop · 22/01/2019 11:39

Buy silicone toilet brushes if you must own one.

lily2403 · 22/01/2019 11:39

I don't use loo brushes, i use hot water and a bit of bleach

WorldofTofuness · 22/01/2019 11:40

Wouldn't very hot water knacker the bristles anyway? Plastics not designed for heat will warp.

(DP quite often washes pans by filling them with water, putting them over a v low heat, while rubbing with a dish brush. We now have a couple of brushes where the heat has softened and splayed the plastic bristles.)
