Put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2019 10:04

Or take them I to the garden, pour boiling water and Dettol on them, job done!

ColdBrexitWithMilkForBreakfast · 22/01/2019 10:05

Of course you can. People put chopping beards that have had raw chicken on. That doesn't somehow magically contaminate all else.

Of course it does. The high heat might cook the chicken bits leaving it safe to eat off but there are still microscopic bits of chicken on your plates. Just as there is microscopic bits of shit on your plates if you wash a toilet brush in it.

I refuse to belive that in MNland NONE of you have ever put a plate through and found it still had bits stuck to it. Or had to clean the filter because it was mucky and washing the dishes through the much.

Also not everyone's dishwasher is actually getting to the magic hot temperatures that dissolve and erase shit. As a dishwasher ages it gets crapper and you don't always notice it at first..but you've already been eating loo brush tea for months.

Notso · 22/01/2019 10:05

If I use water from the kettle is very hot, not boiling because DH is convinced it would crack the pan.
If it's from the tap it's hotter than I'd wash my hands in, but the kids just use hot water.
Why?

ColdBrexitWithMilkForBreakfast · 22/01/2019 10:06

Can't you just pour a hot kettle of water over it OP? Or have a dedicated shit brush bucket you pour water into?

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 22/01/2019 10:09

I wouldn't put something that has touched poo near things you eat with. I change my loo brush regularly, I just buy the cheapest plastic ones.

SlowOx · 22/01/2019 10:09

*loo brushes are disgusting. Just put on some rubber gloves, scrunch up some loo roll and sploosh it around.

It makes me boak when I visit somebody else's loo and there's a slightly discoloured loo brush sitting there radiating poo flecks...*

Right!? I literally don't understand people who use loo brushes. What about scrubbing your toilet with a brush encrusted with the germs of months of previous toilet cleans makes you think you're making your toilet cleaner!? And how bad is everyone's diet in your household if you really need one that badly Envy

Spray a cleaning product or bleach or hot water in the bowl and wipe with a CLEAN bit of loo roll or kitchen roll. It's not hard.

It's akin to using the same single kitchen cloth to clean your kitchen surfaces every day for years on end, and thinking it's clean Envy and there's a reason people (hopefully) don't do that.

NutElla5x · 22/01/2019 10:18

Gross and environmentally unfriendly. Just swirl it in a bit of hot water and bleach.

VanGoghsDog · 22/01/2019 10:22

"encrusted with germs" - hilarious.

My diet is fine but I still need to use the brush to clean the loo now and then. It's simply not a diet issue!

Notso "Why?" - because you said "very hot water" like it was some kind of special thing, or special method of loo cleaning. I think we all use hot tap water!

My DW cycle is at 65 deg, so not much hotter than tap water.

BBInGinDrinking · 22/01/2019 10:23

The Daily Fail and suchlike will love this thread. Yes, OP, YWBVU and it would be absolutely disgusting. No need to waste plastic by throwing away or waste water and electricity by using your dishwasher. Just soak the brush in bleach in the loo while you clean the rest of the bathroom, or soak it in a loo-specific bucket in bleach and cold water. And teach your household to flush before using the loo brush, and to flush again with the brush under the waterflow afterwards.

If you're going to start washing loo brushes in your dishwasher, you might as well cut out the middleman or woman and use your dishwasher as a loo, or wash your dishes in the loo.

Meangirls36 · 22/01/2019 10:26

You want to put the stick you use to clean poo off the toilet into the machine that you use to clean the plates that you eat off? No buy a new toilet brush.

TheSerenDipitY · 22/01/2019 10:26

yes it would
just get a bucket, shove a jug of boiling water in it and throw some bleach in too and give it a bit of a soak, if you think thats not enough do it twice, do it every day if you want, but dont put it in your dishwasher, ever

TheOrigFV45 · 22/01/2019 10:27

My loo brush sits in its holder - a tall one so the actual brush is enclosed.
Put water in, tip bleach in. Leave. Seems to work.

EngagedAgain · 22/01/2019 10:28

No! Why not just wash all the plastic parts and soak brush in watered down bleach in its base or buy a new one. Don't know if you can still get them but I've got the basic ones before for 50p I think. Usually then keep a spare incase of a major clog up!

Get a grip I have never heard anything so lazy or stupid

LadyKalila · 22/01/2019 10:30

If you put bleach in the cistern, you'll not need a loo brush.

loveyoutothestarsandback · 22/01/2019 10:33

That's absolutely vile!! You can buy them in the pound shop for £1!!

Lioness5 · 22/01/2019 10:34

No Envy throw away and buy a new brush

lynnepot · 22/01/2019 10:36

morbidly people actually return used toilet brushes? For Pete's sake what is wrong with some people. Honestly. Can you imagine queuing up with the toilet brush in your hand and asking for a refund.

Anapurna · 22/01/2019 10:40

Yes. 🤮

Notso · 22/01/2019 10:41

Why?" - because you said "very hot water" like it was some kind of special thing, or special method of loo cleaning. I think we all use hot tap water!
No, that's how you chose to interpret it.
I said very hot because that's what works better than cold, luke warm, tepid, room temperature or any other temperature. It works better than the hot my kids use to wash poo stains away.
As I said downstairs it's from the kettle and upstairs hotter than is comfortable for my hands. Struggling to think of a better description than 'very hot' Hmm

Marcipex · 22/01/2019 10:48

Eeeeewwwww

You can buy wooden brushes online from Myriad . I haven't bought any brushes but can highly recommend the company.

Aridane · 22/01/2019 10:50

OP already agreed on the solution a number of pages back as suggested by sprouting - ie soak overnight in dilute bleach or dettol, or in bucket with industrial vinegar or bicarb with boiling water.

You can stop gagging now!

thenightsky · 22/01/2019 10:57

When I first joined MN many, many years ago, I'm sure I read a thread where people were happily putting wellington boots into their dishwashers to get them clean - even dog shit encrusted ones. I don't recall outrage, but I do remember wondering if MN was for me really Confused How times have changed.

higgyhog · 22/01/2019 11:00

A new loo brush and holder is less than a pound in Ikea.
A big bucket of partly diluted bleach will clean your old ones.
