Put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!

OP posts:
SolitudeSometimesIs · 22/01/2019 14:20

Hot water kills the active ingredient in bleach. Only use cold.

potatoscone · 22/01/2019 14:34

Shit in the dishwasher?

Nah, no thanks.

EngagedAgain · 22/01/2019 15:27

Good grief silvery, I'm astonished you've had the same loo brush for 15 years. Thanks to a couple of posters about using bleach only with cold water. I didn't know that and always soak things like tea towels (that have been waiting ages for washing) in the hottest water poss! 🤔

Almostfifty · 22/01/2019 15:30

Never had a toilet brush, totally unnecessary IMO.

EngagedAgain · 22/01/2019 15:30

Horsey, funny (not) if someone didn't realise it was there and sat on it, yikes...

Confusedbeetle · 22/01/2019 15:33

Heres a thing, every toilet user in the family just wipes skids with toilet paper. The toilet brush is never used for shit, but for scrubbing the toilet with liquid cleaner. The last thing I want is a brush with shit on it, use something disposable. With little children I clean up straight after them it remarkably easy. No need to leave it to dry

Confusedbeetle · 22/01/2019 15:37

"A loo brush is rarely used in my house, I use thick bleach to get rid of splatter and toilet wipes to clean the bowl, edges and seat toilet that can be flushed away, I also limescale once a week."
I agree, but please dont flush the wipes down the toilet, what ever they say on the packet they do not degrade. Only excrement and minimal toilet paper should go down the pan

EngagedAgain · 22/01/2019 15:38

Jem, no I don't like mixing tea towels with underwear, but now save up various types of things, hence in my post I have tea towels hanging around ages then have to bleach. I think loo brushes are unfortunately a necessity. I have thought about not having one, and think I could with gloves on deal with my own mess like that but not other people's.

seenna · 22/01/2019 16:24

If you do this please inform me before I eat off your plates Envy

Josico58 · 22/01/2019 16:25

That is absolutely disgusting. Please do not do that.

Leave in a bucket of boiling water with bleach.

I splash some bleach/zoflora in the brush holder after each use, and they dont seem to get too gross.

sue51 · 22/01/2019 16:28

Noooo. Beyond grim.

fartfacemcfartfaceface · 22/01/2019 16:31

NutElla5x · 22/01/2019 17:25

J E S U S ON HIS LITTLE RED BIKE ON THE WAY TO MASS NO!!

Why am I incapable of reading that in anything other than an Irish accent lol?

SilverySurfer · 22/01/2019 19:09

How else could you read it lol Grin

Ribbonsonabox · 22/01/2019 19:16

Just flush the loo brush in the loo to get rid of bits then soak with bleach in its holder. If it's gotten too grim just chuck it and get a new one. Its probs okay to put it thru the dishwasher in terms if germs but it's the thought of it that's pretty gross. I wouldn't feel happy using the dishwasher after that even if I was being illogical!

littlemeitslyn · 22/01/2019 19:45

You need to ask ????

popcornwizard · 22/01/2019 19:48

Heres a thing, every toilet user in the family just wipes skids with toilet paper

And exactly how does that work for under water skid marks? 🤮

TornFromTheInside · 23/01/2019 11:26

Pour bleach down and leave - it'll be gone in an hour

Or get them to put a bit of loo paper down first (can't believe I'm going to use this term, but it gets the idea across... as a 'landing pad') - it makes less noise and keeps things tidy.

cloudtree · 23/01/2019 11:31

I just use toilet cleaner to clean the brush but if you have to do it then at least do it in the washing machine on a hot wash. Not the dishwasher.

Ppatime · 23/01/2019 17:33

Good for you op for not leaping to the ‘buy a new one’ response. How horribly wasteful; this is why we have seas full of plastic rubbish!

Rhumatoidwarrior88 · 23/01/2019 17:36

The best reply on here is treat your self :-D please do !

bmbonanza · 23/01/2019 17:51

I put a lot of things in my dishwasher but even I wouldnt do that.
Plus the loo brushes are 60 p in Wilko so the dishwasher run would cost more than replacing them.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 23/01/2019 18:00

I think this is just about the grossest thing I’ve ever heard of and that’s saying something after watching ‘The Human Centipede’ last night. Vom.

SugarNyx · 23/01/2019 18:01

That’s repulsive
